Unbeaten 6'9 heavyweight Tyson Fury will be taking on another undefeated knockout specialist in 6'5 Brazilian Marcelo Luiz Nascimento in a ten-rounder at Wembley Arena on Saturday. After Fury's fight with Francois Botha was knocked back by the BBBofC, Fury did not hesitate in accepting "the Hammer,"Â whose record is 13-0 with 11 KOs, similar to Fury's record of 13-0 with 9 KOs. "It angers me when you see so called heavyweight prospects keep having bums put in front of them every time,"Â said Fury. I don't want to go through my career like that, I want to show them how it's done, so I'm taking on this guy who has an unbeaten record and is a massive puncher, this is what you have to do to become a star."Â Nascimento remains subject to medical approval by the BBBofC.
With Dereck Chisora left hanging by Wladimir Klitschko's nagging injury, the British Boxing Board of Control announced that British mandatory challenger Tyson Fury will finally get his chance to face current champion Dereck Chisora for the prestigious national title. The fight will go to purse bid on Wednesday, April 13th 2011, and the contest has to take place by the end of July 2011. Fury said, "If he doesn't finally get stripped of his title by the Southern Area board for his run in with the law last year it won't matter, I'm going to strip the title away from him along with the zero on his record. Can't wait for this fight, it's been a long time in the making, but one thing is for sure, it's not going to take me as long to finish him off, expect another brutal knock out delivered from this 22 year old."Â
Fury stops Firtha in 5
By Karl Freitag
WBC #13, WBA #15 heavyweight Tyson Fury (16-0, 11 KOs) scored a fifth round TKO over Nicolai “Stone Man†Firtha (20-9-1, 8 KOs) on Saturday night at historic King’s Hall in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The 6’9 reigning British and Commonwealth titlist landed big shots from the get-go leaving Firtha’s face bloody after the first round. Fury dominated round two, as well. Firtha, however, rocked Fury in round three with an overhand right that had him hurt and desperately holding on. Fury got back on track in round four, landing good shots and getting a credit for a knockdown at the end of the round. Fury was in command again in round five and the bout suddenly, inexplicably waved off by referee John Keane even though Firtha was still very much in the fight. Time was 2:19. Firtha had gone the ten round distance against current WBA titlist Alexander Povetkin so the stoppage looks good on Fury’s resume.
