Fury beat very tough Daniel Peret by 2nd round TKO, to go to 3-0 with 3 knockouts. He will fight again in two weeks. He's been very impressive so far, and apparently looked less fat (or more lean
smiley36.gif
) than his last fight, which is always a good thing.

20-30 more fights, and we'll see if he's really for real. Nice win for him though.Edited by: j41181

I definately think it is too early to be too hyped about him (though I am very impressed), but at the rate he's moving, if he lives up to the hype, he'll be a champion by 20 fights. He's being moved along very fast. I know the comparison is completely worthless at this time, but Fury's actually fought better comp in his first three than Povetkin did, who is being moved very fast, as his 15-0 record at the time of his (supposed to be) title shot.

Tyson Fury impressively stopped Matthew Ellis in 51 seconds today. He's now 5-0 with 5 knockouts! He fights again in two weeks!

He's no Tye Fields because he has technical foot movement and a jab; he's no Cooney because he doesn't really show much power when you see how many shots he's been landing; I doubt he's a foreman because at 6'8" he's not been hit much and likely is not used to being hit. I'm in his corner but I'm not waving any flag right now. He needs to get stronger, and continue his skill progress, and I'm sure he'll get in the top 10 after 20 fights or so. Most importantly, if he takes his time he WILL make a lot of money for his efforts. After all, nothing else really matters in prize fighting.

Fury is fairly accurate, aggressive & has a good reach. He needs to keep polishing his fundementals & develop more explosiveness. BTW, one doesn't need to be ripped to have good cardio or be a good fighter...just look at the best MMA fighter in the world (Fedor)...not shredded, but dang near unbeatable!

Fury is awkward which is the greatest asset he has as he steps up.His opponents like Ellis and Zeller have tried to put pressure on him and get inside but have been beaten up with hooks, uppercuts and body punches.Box him on the outside and he tees off with jabs and right hands.Hes huge, has handspeed and great technical execution.Theirs nothing stiff about the way he throws his punches which has come to be expected from guys his size. His workrate is also outstanding.Hes been sparring with Povetkin and some of the other Euro big boys and from that performance its paid off.It would be great if he could get sparring with one of the Klitschkos. If he can do to Danny Williams,Sexton or Rogan what he did to his first test in Belshaw then the lads for real.

And he's so young! He'll be 21 next month... yeah, I checked boxrec.

So let's not be too hard on him. He's fighting decent opposition at this stage of his career, he's staying busy, and he's knocking everyone out. Let's just wait and see what happens.

I don't think we'll hear anything serious about him until he's about 24 or 25. Still, I thought he looked more impressive in his last fight. His body punching looks impressive already, but he'll need to develop better lateral movements on both offense and defense.

One of the things I like about Fury is how quick he is with the body shots. Cooney hit harder, but he had to bend and wind up to throw his left hook to the body. Fury sneaks his body shots in much more quickly.

I actually hope he does not get used to throwing too many body shots. When tall fighters throw low shots they expose their chin too much. If you watch Vitali and Wladimir, they fight tall and focus on head shots from a distance. I would like to see Fury model himself that way. What do you think of his jab?

I'm with Maple Leaf on the body shots. and to answer your questions, I really don't like his jab. it seems slow and sloppy.

Good point on the body punching Maple Leaf. A tall guy like Fury has to pick his spots and not become predictable with body punches.

I think he has a decent jab. Seems quick enough with some good pop. He drops it sometimes, though.

Yeah, I thought his jab could smarten up as you guys said. Tall guys with long wingspans do tend to get sloppy because they can. I like Arthur Abraham's style of jabbing -watch his back muscles flex as he snap/punches it forward. But with coaching, lots of practice, and lots of action this Fury will continue to shoot upward.

Fury returns this Saturday to face Aleksandrs Selezens 3-6(1).

Fightnews

British heavyweight prospect Tyson Fury (7-0, 7 KOs) continued his road of terror, stopping Latvian no-hoper Alexander Selezens (3-7) in the third. Fury landed a sneaky body punch that put his Latvian opponent in pain and then down on accumulation of punches. Selezen's corner threw in towel right after that. Fury is scheduled to fight for the English belt against John McDermott later this year.

That's a fight I'm looking forward to. If Fury's the real deal he'll dominate the limited McDermott. Tough opponent for only his 8th pro fight.
