There should have been a penalty kick. I think it was Edu who committed the foul. All the American announcers agreed it should have been a penalty kick for Mexico.

So you all remember Bill Hamid, the Sierra Leone "American" goalkeeper whose had so many howlers and is one of the worst goalkeepers in MLS (also has the worst GAA). He was also the starting goalkeeper on that U.S. All African U-23 Olympic Team that failed to qualify for the Olympics. If you remember there, he also gave up some howlers.

Well, one would think that based on his stellar resume, he would never again be considered for the National Team. Well, guess what? Inevitably, Jurgen Klinsmann called him for the latest round of World Cup Qualifiers. Klinsmann also omitted Landon Donovan, the highest goal scorer and best player in U.S. history.

Don't feel excluded: I'm an MLS season ticket holder and still have no idea who he is.

Wikipedia reports that this guy dabbled in underage national team pools six and eleven years ago, but he hasn't sniffed the 'Big Leagues' since. The fans/observers of his Houston Dynamo team report on his modest ability to drift up and give terrible crosses, combined with his modest ability to contain defenders.

Hopefully he is at least "fast".

Klinsmann gave 31-yr old (white) Brad Davis a similarly ridiculous call-up as the "penultimate" man and ended up playing him for a few minutes.

Howard and Guzan are 1-2; the four other keepers will rotate as #3's when the US travels to their MLS cities. Weird policy, but then again this is a coach who serves vegan food at team meals and mandates yoga and meditation.

Sean Johnson and Bill Hamid are young black goalies who have already been in camps. Nick Rimando rates higher but is too old to succeed Howard/Guzan. The winner is Tally Hall, a young white goalie earning his first call-up. Hopefully he leapfrogs the two 'naturalized' Africans down the line.

Tim Howard (Everton) has been the de facto #1 for awhile, but there was a bit of media chatter about whether Guzan (Aston Villa) could supplant him after his injury this spring. I don't expect it but the idea of competition is nice.

Beasley is black and Gonzalez is clearly a Mexican mestizo. That's not a "mostly white backline. The usual backline for the U.S. is Johnson, Cameron, Besler or Bocanegra, and Cherundolo with Bradley at D-mid. All of those players were out injured except for Cameron. Eric Lichaj from Aston Villa is another option at left or right back but Klinsmann refuses to call him in.

Big difference between a white Mexican and mestizo Mexican.

I like the Wondolowski and Jack McInerney call ups a lot. These guys are good. I really hope guys like Holden, Torres, Shea, and Zusi play well; to help displace Fabian Johnson, Danny Williams, and some of the other "Germans" on the US team. Also, Wondo and McInernery need to play well if they do get on the squad; the US desperately needs more firepower up front.

Oguchi Onyewu, the 31 year old perpetually handicapped Nigerian who somehow always screws up and is responsible for at least one goal every match. He's had a total of 2 appearances this past season for his club....yes, 2 appearances..

Sean Johnson, the goalkeeper who replaced Hamid at the U-23 Olympic Qualifying. If you remember, he also gave up a howler that eliminated the U.S. from qualifying for the Olympics.

Nick Rimando, a short Mexican mestizo goalkeeper. Because if there is one thing Mexico is great at producing, its goalkeepers.

And once again, Klinsmann ignored Eric Lichaj who played over 20 matches this past season for Aston Villa. Lichaj has not been called once under Klinsmann.

The only good news in the lineup are no black midfielders or forwards.

Yes, thanks for posting, Milan! I also don't know why "Gooch" keeps getting called up. This bum would never get called up to any team that actually values winning. He's like the American version of Jerome Boateng.

That Bill Hamid and Sean Johnson keep getting called up is laughable. These losers are two of the worst keepers I've ever seen. As Milan mentioned, Hamid sucks and plays for last place DC United, and Johnson plays for 8th place Chicago Fire. Seriously, what in the hell was Klinnsmann thinking, at least Rimando plays for a good team. Tally Hall, who was cut off of the roster, is a much better keeper than those 2 for sure. This team will be lucky to get to the finals with those two "keepers." I pray we start Rimando.

Donovan, McInerney, Wondolowski, and co better be ready to score a lot this Gold Cup, as the opposition is going to be scoring a LOT with Hamid in goal.

Apart from the familiar travesties, this surely must be Klinsmann's whitest roster ever. We just have to clench our teeth and hope that the white players perform to their potential. In particular, I'd like to see McInerney, Diskerud, Gatt, and Bruin secure at least consideration for the World Cup squad.

Onyewu is old, useless, and doesn't even have the "upside" to warrant inclusion. Klinsmann "retired" Carlos Bocanegra from national team duties for a lesser injury. Lichaj, who must have been caught receiving dirty text messages from Klinsmann's Chinese wife, at least does not really play the same position as the aged African. Tim Ream would be a better example of an in-form American that cannot get a phone call. In fact, I'd be more excited to see him than any of the center backs on this roster.

I think that the United States are a strong favorite for this Gold Cup, though Mexico and Honduras are always dangerous (even if they are with second- and third-string squads). Martinique could be a dark horse, they could rely on quite a few French-based players who are relatively experienced and are familiar with Ligue 1 football. In my opinion the US actually has a lot of depth in midfield, I am keeping my fingers crossed that guys like Holden will have a strong showing. It seems as if Donovan will be eased back into the first team, but is no longer a guaranteed starter and won't reclaim the captain's armband. I would have liked to see Zack Whitbread (who has been called up before, but hasn't made any appearances) back in the fold, as I always feel sorry for players who miss out on an international cap due to sustaining injuries. I agree that Tally Hall (and possibly Bobby Shuttleworth) deserve to get another chance to prove themselves on international duty.

The US is looking pretty good in their friendly tonight with Guatemala. They only started with 5 whites (+3 mestizos Nick Rimando, Gomez, and Joe Corona)

However, since the United States subbed their white players on, they've looked like a different team. Mix Diskerud and Stuart Holden have been playing awesome tonight!! Landon Donovan scored two goals in his return tonight, with Chris Wondolowski also bagging his 1st US goal. The Yanks have been fun to watch since their subs(Holden, Wondo, Bedoya, Diskerud, Shea,) came on. With Rimando holding our two black "keepers" off, I'd say we've got a good team to watch.

We are currently looking like the USA again, playing 8 whites, 2 blacks, and 1 mestizo since about the 50th minute. It's been an awesome change from Klinnsman's previous lineups, and I hope in the Gold Cup, Diskerud and Holden will get to keep playing together; they should start instead of Torres and Beckerman. Also, I'd like to see Shea for Corona, and Bedoya for Castillo in the future matches.

Well, the USA decimated Guatemala with a 5 goal second half. The USA looked A LOT better after subbing in Stuart Holden and Mix Diskerud. Those two seemed to be light years ahead of Torres and Beckerman in the midfield. Holden played so well last night, even a lot of the Big Soccer posters wanted a Bradley-Holden starting midfield in the WC with Geoff Cameron moving to CB with Besler. I could live with that.
