Toby lost, I believe, in large part due to the all electronic voting that was implemented this year. Just 5 first place votes short. The extra game is what put Ingram over the top, along with him being part of the SEC and being black. Of course, Toby didn't have the early season hype like Ingram either.

Well this was the "lets find any reason to give it to anybody but Toby Gerhart" 2009 Heisman trophy award. When you lead the nation in rushing TDs and yards by a wide margin, there shouldn't be too much debate - especially when comparing him with someone that played the same position.

I'm depressed a little but he made a great run at it. Toby is still the Doak Walker Award Winner. No one can ever take that away from him. Finishing 2nd in the 2009 Heisman Race is not bad either. He should have won in my honest opinion but that is the way it goes. He still will be a star on Sundays if given the opportunity to start at running back.

I hope and pray that all of the NFL Teams realize just how special he is. He needs to go in the first round of the Nfl Draft. Anything less than the 2nd round would be a complete spit in the face. Let's hope for him to be drafted high and to go to a team that will make him into a star right away.

Congrats Toby. Keep your head held high. You were incredible this year.

Doak Walker award winners have had more success in the NFL which is the most important. It goes to show that its political that he loses to another runningback, when he won the award for nations best runningback.

Still a great, great day. Toby deserved it and Ingram has to be the most underwhelming winner in Heisman history. Yet having Toby there, showing some of his amazing highlights to the nation, and having his "surprising" "speed" and "burst" mentioned is great for our cause.

Even though it would be better if he won, someone else pointed out that there are benefits of not winning, such as the possibility of being another Heisman bust; if he won it and didn't work out in the pros, it would be a great one-liner for the DWFs: "Yeah, even the lucky Heisman winner couldn't cut it in the pros, against the best of the best."

So although it is disappointing, this is one of the most beneficial moments for the caste football cause.

I am upset but I will take this set back with a grain of salt. We must remember Toby wins the Doak Walker and comes in 2nd to the heisman in the closest vote in heisman history. Let's not forget before the season he wasn't even considered a legit running back much less a heisman contender so for what it's worth he had a hell of a season. Toby came from nowhere to almost steal the heisman from the feild, and it goes to show you just how talented he is. Any other white running back does not win the Doak or make it to NY so for what it's worth great job Toby you really gave the countrry hell this year. The country had to notice you for the great white talent that you are. Now give em hell at the combine at go tear it up at the pro level. You are me and my children's favorite football player period, and I can't wait to buy your jersey for them when you get drafted in ther 1st round like you should. Once again Toby great job I am damn proud to be a white man, and I want my children to be like you. Their is no better compliment than this Toby best of luck to you, and of course me and my kid's will be watching.

Ingram is one of the most underwhelming Heisman winners that I can remember, ever. RBs like him are dime-a-dozen, and I predict he'll go the way of Rashaad Salam or Ki-Jana Carter in his pro career.

The caste clowns at ESPN and elsehwhere are probably breathing a little easier tonight, boy, that was a close on there. In fact, a little too close for comfort when it comes to their anti-white agendas. I agree that there was a full-court press on ESPN the last couple of days to prepare everyone for Ingram's inevitable win.

The voting should've been Gerhart, Suh, McCoy, Ingram and Tebow, in that order.

Peyton Manning lost it in the first political Heisman farce that I was aware of back in 1997. The winner was quickly forgotten as far as the NFL goes. Peyton is a QB though, not a RB like Toby. Hopefully Toby will end up somewhere that needs him and will have coaches who will actually start him. Only time will tell.

Unfortunately, I agree. I really like the fact we have people such as Electric Slide who are optimistic, hopeful, and keep a positive attitude. I, too, wish, that this barrier is finally broken, and that Gerhart is the man to do it. This time, it has to be different.

The sad thing is, the odds are so highly stacked against Gerhart, and there's so much evidence of even better white RBs than him being screwed in the past, that this time will not be different. I like nothing better than to be 100% wrong on this. But when you hear all this 3rd/4th round talk, it's very disheartening. The talks will only intensify as we get closer to the draft, and with enough noise from ESPN's so-called experts, perception will become reality, and his status will take a hit.

The NFL will no doubt try and destroy his career. So, why not screw the NFL in return?

I don't really put too much stock in the Heisman. It seems like more of a curse in terms of NFL success. Past winners, both black and white, have been either ignored or failed in similar fashion in the NFL.

The only black players who had any sort of success in the NFL were Eddie George and Charles Woodson. Ron Dayne and Desmond Howard were given a chance, but were generic and had limited success. Howard did win the superbowl MVP in the 1996-1997 season for his kick return ability, but it was short-lived ala Dante Hall and Devin Hester. Dayne was a fatter, less athletic, weaker version of Jerome Bettis. Ricky Williams had a few great seasons, and is still playing, but he's certainly nothing special. Players like former Oklahoma QB Jason White werent even drafted.

At least the pressure is off of Toby.

Was talking to someone a week ago who is big time into fantasy football and football in general. Devotes all of his non-working life just about to "scouting" players and keeping up on everything football related. We were both raving about Gerhart, then he added, "He's going to be the next Alstott."

I'm sure he thought that was a great compliment. But Alstott was never the clear featured runner for Tampa. He was a fullback who split carries at times with Warrick Dunn, before Jon Gruden came along and prematurely put him out to pasture. Why not compare Toby to Jerome Bettis, Chris Wells, orany of manyother big running backs who have been or are projected to be"the man" on their team in the NFL? The racial programming and limited thinking is just so deeply ingrained in the minds of so many.

On the contrary. If he gets a good offer from a major league baseball team, Toby should take it, just like the great white WR from Notre Dame. If he waits around for the NFL to "do the right thing," he'll likely get screwed just like Hass and a bunch of otherwhite players. The ND WR didn't get screwed like the others because he went to the major leagues with a muli-million dollar contract under his belt while talented white WR's like Hass languish on some practice squad team, wasting away with only an 80K salary. The ND WR also got a real chance to prove himself in the majors. It hasn't worked out, but at least he got a chance. You watch. Toby, if he decides to play in the NFL, will be a lower round pick, receive the league minimum salary, and end up as a blocking dummy for some hyped-up, spoiled brat afrolete.

I really didn't want to spoil the positive thoughts some were trying to have for Toby, but all along I never believed he could win the Heisman. The Heisman has become one of the most political awards in all of sports in recent years. The Heisman is supposed to be about honoring the most outstanding player in college football, but it is starting to become more closely like some half-assed MVP trophy awarded to the most high profile player on one of the BCS Championship contending teams. There is no other way to explain it. Someone would not win the Heisman trophy while not winning the trophy for best position player in their own position if it was not so. In Ingram's case it is the Doak Walker award. How does Ingram win the award for being the most outstanding player if he is not even the best in his own position? In a rational world he does not not, but as we all know the Sports world in America is anything but rational. I am actually surprised that it was a close as it was, and I am very pleased that Toby came in such a close second. All the talking head jabber about him not having the burst or ability to be a primary back in the NFL is nothing but pure fear talking on their part. They are afraid of Toby going to the NFL as a high round pick and tearing it up, just like they are afraid of Tim Tebow going to the NFL and showing up their chosen afflete Radio at QB. If they are ready to anoint Vince Young as finally being ready to revolutionize the QB position as they have hoped for so long, they certainly don't want Tebow coming in and becoming a better player in the long run. There is no reason to believe he wouldn't if given the chance. He is just as good of a passer as AHDIW. All the talk about his lack of arm strength is bogus, and he is certainly smarter and has better character than Radio.

Toby needs to get ready for the combine. If he has an impressive showing somebody is going to take him no later than the second round I believe. As I have said before, if that happens then it is going to be very hard to hide the Doak Walker award winner and Heisman runner up on a depth chart or Luke Staley him if he has a decent combine. Almost every Doak Walker award winner has been drafted relatively high and has been given every chance to prove they are primary back in the NFL. If last years Doak Walker winner Shonn Green can have a bad combine, get drafted in the 3rd round and get 6.5 carries per game with a 4.8 per carry average, no reason to believe the NFL can screw Toby unless they want to make it blatantly obvious and look silly doing it. If Toby has a good combine and still falls to the 4th round or below, I am also in the mindset of hoping he says FU to the NFL and tries to play baseball.Edited by: Bear Backer
