TOBY GERHART FOR HEISMAN VOTE EVERY DAY!

Mel Kiper has him as the #2 RB now. If he goes somewhere near the middle of the first, it will be almost impossible to bury him on the depth chart or make him take most of his snaps as a FB.

I mind Mathews being played up over Toby in certain circles because of his Islander heritage. For whatever reason, the NFL loves it's Islanders almost as much as it's WoGA's. If Toby were in Ryan Mathews' shoes, there is probably not a person alive on any of these popular mock draft sites that would have him going higher than the potential Heisman winner and most productive runner in the nation.

Very surprising Kiper has him that high. Kiper is one of the worst caste clowns around. I have rarely seen him give respect to white players other than quarterbacks.
 
Prediction time: Toby will win the Heisman or come in a close second. He will excell at the combines in skills and strength measureables. He will nail a 4.45/4.47 forty and weight around 220 lbs.

He will get drafted in the middle of the 1st round. If he is not, it is up to his agent to raise hell why a white rb who kicked ass in college and the combines is being discriminated against. If Toby does not get assurances that he will only play TB or HB, then its Toby's responsibility to blow the whistle on the league and its discrimination against whites and say the long F u to them and head towards baseball.

Kiper has obviously been going to therapy and hasn't relapsed. Maybe he can give the sexual therapists number to Eldrick..

I'm glad to hear Kiper is on board the Toby Train but I must admit I'm shocked as well. It's a start and Toby needs all the help he can get.

Let's keep up the positive mojo for him going into Saturday Night.

Gerhart has been getting more and more exposure on ESPN. I think he has become the frontrunner to win the heisman with all these "experts" finally picking up his cause.
 
I am actually liking Kiper and what he is saying, somewhat.... He and McShay were just on ESPN and talking about where Gerhart should go in the draft and what type of team could use him. Kiper said hes the second highest rated senior RB behind Spiller and should go in the 2nd round and since many teams use multiple backs he could go to a team with a scatback that could compliment his skills and split carries with him. Said he had the power, speed and quickness to be a good halfback at then next level and compared him to Riggins (way to think outside of the box..)

Even though I think he should go in the first no matter what, second round wouldnt be too bad and at least Kiper has him slated him as a halfback and getting a significant amount of carries. Hope he at least goes in the first round though, because most teams try to give their first round picks a good chance to prove themselves and I dont think any team would convert a first round back to lead blocker.

McShay is a complete tool, said Toby is a 3rd or 4th round pick and would have to switch to fullback and go to a team that utilizes one, and he doesn't see wasting anything but a 3rd or 4th round pick on a fullback. And then mentioned that there are "tons of underclassmen that are better" that might declare.

There are a few good underclassmen, but none as good as Gerhart.

He has the 3rd most rushing tds for a season in NCAA history with 26, (passing up Ricky Williams who had 25), over 1700 rushing yards and is a Heisman finalist (who seems to be the favorite to win it from what every "expert" is saying), never has played fullback before, has ran a 4.43 and 4.48, this is the second time someone has said he will go in the 3rd or 4th round, but never say WHY? We all know why, but Id like to hear them give a reasonable explanation, not just putting him at fb because he is White.

Now if only Kiper would change his opinion about Tebow being a fullback or tight end..Edited by: dwid
 
Kiper can be very accurate sometimes (predicting Matt Stafford as the future #1 pick when Matt was still in HS). Maybe Kiper decided to attach his nards & rate Toby (around) where he belongs. Toby's definitely the TOP RB/TB. He's bigger & stronger than "SeeJay Spilla" & "Mok N'grum".
As DWID alluded to, maybe Kiper will re-evaluate Tebow at FB or TE. Yes, Tim CAN play those positions (+ RB), but he SHOULD be playing QB!
 
If I'm drafting Gerhart, I'm planning on giving him about 2/3 of the carries for 3 quarters, then just start feeding him the ball in the 4th when the defense is tired.

I would dare the increasingly fat Sumos on the defensive lines, and the lazy affletes with poor fundamentals in general to stop Toby late in games when they are already tired and thinking about their nice comfy cribs or after game club of choice. I was watching ATH earlier today, and Reali asks what are Gerhart's chances in the NFL: (paraphrasing)

Jackie M: "Yeah, he's good, but I don't know about his speed in the NFL. I'd rather go with Spiller if it came down to it".

Tim Cowlishaw: "There aren't that many power runners in the NFL, and at 6'1, 235, a guy that good, I'm sure they'll find a role for him"

Hmmm, exactly what I'd call ringing endorsements. And then, the final panelist Kevin Blackistone says:

"This guy has speed, he broke all sorts of records in HS and College, and he'll do great in the NFL. The only thing he doesn't fit is the stereotype of an NFL RB."

White guilt is certainly a powerful tool. Especially powerful on White women.
 
That should mean he wins the Heisman too. Obviously there is strategic voting and more vote splitting which could allow Ingram to win. But logic would dictate he should win. To me the Doak Walker is just as important for the cause of White backs.
 
Hehehe, I feel like the circle is getting tighter and tighter around the caste establishment as Toby marches forward. Indeed, how the heck do you justify turning him into anything else when he just won the award for the best RB in college football?
 
Never has happened. The award is fairly new and the fullback has been fazed out of most teams offenses since the early 80's. I don't think John Cappelletti was even a college fullback. You might have to go back to the days of Doc Blanchard to find the last time a fullback won the award. Actually I just looked it up and Steve Owens was the last fullback.Edited by: white is right
 
Congrats to Toby on winning the Doak Walker award!!

Important to note is that I said Eddie George voted for Gerhart, but he actually said he thinks Gerhart will win but voted Ingram 1st and Gerhart 2nd. Oh well that's life you can't get all the votes. Let's just hope that enough of the old-timers who haven't announced their votes put Gerhart over the top.

Also, one ESPN Sports Nation today they had a poll and 63% of "sportsnation" said Toby Gerhart will be a starting RB in the NFL! The girl had guessed that only 48% said so. The other options were about 24% and 83%. I'm glad 63% of the people, mostly DWFs think Gerhart will get the job done!
 
Okay here is something interesting. Every running back that won the Heisman since they introduced the Doak Walker award in 1990 ALSO won the Doak Walker (Rashaan Salaam, Eddie George, Ricky Williams, Ron Dayne, and Reggie Bush). Another way of saying this is that there has NEVER been an RB that didn't win the Doak Walker (when they could have, of course), yet still won the Heisman.

Now comes the question of how much stock to put into that. This could be a coincidence or it could be respective of an actual voting trend. Let's hope that the trend continues and Toby Gerhart ends up on top with both trophies!
 
Yep, the Doak Walker Award has only been around since 1990, and no Fullbacks have won the award. Just Running Backs. There have been some fine White FBs who have run the ball since 1990, but none that were high profile enough to win the Doak.

The Toby Gerhart thread, begun by white lightning over 3 years ago in 2006 (before I even joined the site!), only had 4 pages worth of posts before this season! I started this thread simply to help Gerhart get votes for the Nissan Heisman vote, but I guess it also helps to serve as a discussion for Gerhart's Heisman chances. Looking back through the posts it's interesting to see some of the pessimism relating to Gerhart's chances for the Heisman!

The problem is for a Fullback to win the award he would have to compile huge stats. There aren't any teams that do that anymore. They really should have the Larry Csonka award for true Fullbacks.
