I think you'll get an Obama factor with writers voting for Ingram because they don't want to be seen as racist.

Clemson's CJ Spiller had 233 yards & 4 TDs, although he wasn't a front-runner. I'm hoping Ingram's atrocious game vs. Auburn spurns some voters from going with him...although the caste-esque DWFs will talk about how Ingram "stepped up" in a "big game" today/Saturday.

Dixie, when I was watching the Nebraska-Texas game, castelets John Saunders and Jessee Palmer were oohing and ahhing over Ingram's performance. They were saying how "he had an awesome game", and "how he stood tall" today. Saunder's and Palmer's probably along with Herbstreit's and Muskrat's, are going to Ingram.

Toby definitely deserves it, but dwfs are raving about Ingrams performance (he had a decent game but he didn't even avg the best ypc out of everyone on his team that ran the ball) CJ spiller had a great game but has been inconsistent this season.

DWFS will believe anything they hear. Every argument made for Ingram includes his "yards after contact" and how he is the leader for that stat in the NCAA, which I have looked for and its not an official stat, in fact thing I could find about it was stuff written about Ingram. Ive asked everyone who has brought it up to find where it lists the leaders and who has what, and no one can find it, yet they still believe it to be true. Amazing how he leads in an non existent stat where he is the only person people are counting for. Not sure what they are considering "contact" either.

Now they are saying his poor performance against Auburn was due to an injury, even though he practiced all week and seemed okay today.

Everyone make sure to keep voting because the dwf's are going to be voting like crazy for Ingram after today. They have very short memories and most probably don't even remember what Toby has done. In fact most think Toby's best game came against Notre Dame, and many think that was his only big game...even though he rushed for 400 yards against two top ten teams back to back and has had similar performances the entire season.

If Toby isn't chosen as the Heisman winner and instead a comparatively undeserving black runningback gets the nod, do you think there will be any kind of general public uproar about the unfairness of it all?

OR -- much more likely, do you think DWFs will simply not care, and not question the "wisdom" of the committee, which must know something that the rest of us rubes don't?

(And of course, that "something" is that even when a white athlete is in absolutely every conceivable way SUPERIOR to one of a different race, the black athlete has some immeasurable, unquantifiable "skill" that only wise old gay white sportswriters are smart enough to define).

NY Times is saying that Ingram is now the favorite for the Heisman. Having a big game against the #1 team and against another Heisman candidate, Tebow, helps put him to the top of the list. Plus it mentions McCoy did not have a good game. No mention of Gerhart.
Although he was over 100 yards rushing, he had nearly 30 carries, so his average/carry was just average. And except that one long reception, he didn't do much receiving wise either. On the other hand he did score 3 TDs, and unfortunately Gerhart was playing this week.
The article also mentions that his Dad is incarcerated former Giant WR, Mark Ingram.

GM, if Toby doesn't win the Heisman (that he deserves/earned), the only uproar will be from Stanford fans & WNs like us here at CF. The DWFs will be pulling for "afflete" Ingram (& probably not even pull for McCoy or Tebow).

there have been quite a few people on arguing for Gerhart on Espn's conversation, although there have been less and less the past few days, I am trying to keep arguing for Toby , but I am outnumbered by dwfs. At least I see a few people on there that realize Toby is an amazing halfback. So things are looking somewhat better.

I don't understand this "WE" mentality dwfs have with the SEC. "We are the best" The SEC is not the best, and how can they feel part of the SEC and say "We" when most of the players on the field aren't anything like them?

DWID, like I said in my previous posts, the folks of the SEC really stick together for folks in their conference. They'll do that silly SEC-SEC chant. That is part of the reason why folks hate the SEC so much. Their influence runs deeper than alot of people realize. All of those writers votes and former winners (probably Tebow himself) that were going to Tebow in the southeast are probably going to Ingram. The SEC is in bed with ESPN and CBS since they have contracts with them so they will talk them up. And the West Coast bias is still alive and well. Writers this very year have openly admitted of going to bed before watching any west coast games. While the SEC is very much unified, the other conferences aren't as much.

On Sportcenter, Gerhart was annoucned as a Heisman Finalist today!
smiley32.gif
Also, Tim Brown, who annoucned the names, voted for Toby Gerhart.

That fatass Golic and idiot Greenburg of course were going for Ingram if they had a vote, saying "how good Ingram's stiff arm would look next to the trophy." I can't stand those weak, pathetic losers.

Wow Tim Brown voted for Gerhart. I think the world might end or finally white ahtletes are getting their due. One thing in Toby's favor is that most voters already cast their ballots before Saturday's games in order to have them in on time. Therefore Toby has a great chance of winning the trophy based on how he finished the season. Go Toby and represent us well in New York.

This year, for the first time, all Heisman ballots are sent in online instead of through the mail. So technically they can all wait till the last day before sending their votes in. I hate to think that may have a negative impact on Toby, but I think it might.

The players invited to NYC's Downtown Athletic Club for the Heisman presentation (next Saturday) are Gerhart, McCoy, Tebow, Suh & Ingram.

I think many of the black voters will vote for Gerhart because they ironically could see things without a color bias and not worry about being called a racist against their own race. I think a significant number of white voters will not vote for Gerhart because in their mind they can't imagine that a white RB could be better than a black one, despite what the numbers show and their own eyes could see on the field. Don't lose all hope though. Many voters had made up their minds before Saturday, and probably most had. Ingram's 30 yd game hurt him a lot, and I many cannot imagine a Heisman winner that had such a terrible game. Also, remember sometimes it seems like ESPN is in charge of all things related to sports, but when it comes to the Heisman they are not. The votes are spread throughout many smaller town newspaper writers like the Lincoln Journal, Wichita Times, and the Tulsa Intelligencer type newspapers (just made those names up).

Also, the vote will be split 5 ways, Gerhart may just be able to squeek through. While I will not be devastated if he doesn't win it, I will be very happy and take a few shots with friends if Toby is named the winner! If Tim Brown can cast his vote for Toby, then ANYBODY can!

The Doak Walker poll tide is turning against Toby. We better start voting more often. Doak Walker poll: http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/post/_/id/4683292/who-win-doak-walker-awardHeisman Rank 'Em poll: http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/rank?versionId=15&listId=363#topOfList

Can any of you guys still vote in that poll? I haven't been able to vote in it for 2 days now. When I checked it yesterday, Toby still had a pretty decent lead. Now today it looks like things have changed. So is the poll still open, closed, or is there some chicanery going on from from obviously pro black ESPN?

I can still vote on it, Bear Backer. The old ESPN Heisman poll link is dead, That's why I deleted it from my last post. You can go to ESPN sportsnation and find the position awards to vote on.

Stiffarmtrophy.com projects Toby Gerhart to win the Heisman. They claim to be correct for the past 7 years!

http://stiffarmtrophy.com/

121 Ballots: Gerhart holds lead, Suh & Ingram at #2, then McCoy

Well, the finalists have been announced by the H------ Trophy Trust. As we expected, they are Toby Gerhart, Mark Ingram, Colt McCoy, Ndamukong Suh, and Tim Tebow. The Trust announces them in alphabetical order, but we're glad to see that their top five matches our top five.

With 121 ballots, we're showing Gerhart maintaining his hold on the top spot with strong showings in a number of regions and a projection of 39%. Suh and Ingram continue their virtual tie at 38%, and McCoy right behind at 32%. Tim Tebow is solidly in fourth - but well ahead of the rest of the field at 13%.

I can't vote in the Doak poll. I am going to try to clear my cookies after I have a glass of milk and cookies

who should win the heisman is one of them, couldnt find the direct link

Toby is 22 percent to Suh who is 54 percent, Ingram is at 11 percent. Go vote! Espn just showed this poll on Sportscenter and will probably show it again.

I am glad Toby is getting this much exposure Even if he doesn't win though getting invited to New York should help his chances at being a halfback at the next level. Kind of hard to deny a Heisman finalist getting carries.

Interesting article from the Bleacher Report making the case for Gerhart to win the Heisman especially since he deserves the glory now, because he won't be allowed to shine the NFL at tailback because he is white. Probably the most direct assertion of the injustice I've seen from the media to date.

Who SHOULD win the 2009 Heisman?

Colt McCoy Tim Tebow Mark Ingram Toby Gerhart Ndamukong Suh vote to see results Toby Gerhart isn't your typical Heisman candidate. Then again, as a white running back playing in the Pac-10 and dominating even the best of defenses, he's not your "typical" anything.

We could go on for days about the other four candidates going up against Gerhart for Saturday's college honor, but why waste precious time? Why dissect something that is as simple as eye-popping numbers, reviving a dead football school, and making the Pac-10 more interesting than it would have been, had Gerhart not existed.

Why pass on Gerhart, and deny him his one chance at greatness , his one chance at immortality?

Because, let's face it, biases aside, this guy isn't doing anything in the pro's. He won't be drafted in the first round (even though he should be), and scouts and "experts" will tear him apart with countless amounts of white stereo-types.

Hey, that Gerhart is a heck of a bruiser, imagine what he'd be like blocking for Michael Turner.

Boy, that Stanford kid has some quick feet to go with an abusive, strong frame. He'd make a heck of a tight end.

By the books , Gerhart doesn't have the flashy or extraordinary athleticism of a Darren McFadden or an Adrian Peterson. But does that make him any less of a running back?

All the guy has done is rush for 1,700-plus yards in a relatively strong Pac-10 conference, led the previously average Stanford Cardinal to a 6-3 conference record, and a solid 8-4 overall record, which will culminate in a bowl appearance against Oklahoma.

The question is not whether or not Gerhart's assistance in Stanford's rise is worthy of some solid recognition. By now, that should go without saying.

Now, it comes down to whether or not his numbers and his affect on his team match up against the other Top-Four players in the country.

But in that same breath, Gerhart can't help who he plays for. What he can help, however, is how he played against stiff competition, and the way he dominated defenses.

Gerhart failed to top 100 yards rushing in just two of his 12 games this season, while never falling below 80.

He piled on three games of 200-plus yards rushing, while scoring multiple touchdowns in nine games.

The most impressive of his feats, however, is the way he played down the stretch, when it mattered most, as the Cardinal knocked off Arizona State, Oregon, USC, and Notre Dame.

In his final five games (Stanford was 4-1), Gerhart topped 120 rushing yards in each game, while scoring a ridiculous 14 rushing touchdowns.

Gerhart literally put Stanford on his back, topping 27 carries in four of his last five contests, while never dropping his yards per carry below 4.6.

He was consistent, he was dominant, and he proved himself worthy to be mentioned among the best players in college football in 2009.

Again, even with all the gaudy stats, the Stanford uprising, and the fan support, the question remains: Where does this widely unknown white running back stack up against the Tim Tebow's, Colt McCoy's, and Mark Ingram's of the world?

If we're eliminating biases, not giving too much credit to other players for their superior programs, coaching, and supporting casts, he easily stands tall ahead of them all.

Don't let this writer confuse you. Colts McCoy's 3,500-plus passing yards and 27 passing touchdowns (not to mention a 12-0 Texas squad) definitely warrant consideration.

Believe it; McCoy is a great player, and a future NFL star. But he's not the best player in college football this year. And quite arguably, if he's not, then neither is Tim Tebow.

And as dominant as Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been lately, he just doesn't measure up to the value and presence both Gerhart and Alabama's running back, Mark Ingram, bring to the table.

Ingram, also extremely worthy of high praise and a Heisman vote, has rushed for 1,500-plus yards and 15 scores on the season, while helping Alabama to a win over Florida last week, en route to an impressive 12-0 record and a spot in the National Championship game against McCoy's Texas.

What better than to have Ingram and McCoy finished first and second in the Heisman race, then, right?

Maybe that will happen, and perhaps both players have the right to be the Top-Two vote-getters in the league. They definitely have the talent, and their team's success would quite likely be nowhere near what it is without them.

But if we're being honest, Stanford would have struggled to win 4-5 games this season if it weren't for Gerhart.

His 1,700-plus rushing yards and 26 rushing touchdowns say so. His dominant efforts against USC, Oregon, and Notre Dame prove his worth.

You can say Tebow gets the benefit of the doubt for a weak season, and is still the best player in the country. That's believable.

You can say either Ingram or McCoy get the nod because they have the numbers and their team's are battling for a national title. I'll buy that.

But what you can't say, is that Toby Gerhart isn't good enough, doesn't have the numbers, or doesn't deserve to have his name called.

Because if there's one thing that is irrefutable in this Heisman race, and in fact, this entire NCAA season, it's that Gerhart is worthy .
