Two backs (power one elusiveness two) is tougher to defend because coach needs to put the right type of defenders on the field. I agree.

One of the reasons I really liked the old "pro set" with the backs lined up side-by-side behind the QB. Think the Miami Dolphins with Jim Kiick and Larry Csonka. It's a very versatile formation, I don't know why it's not used more.

Christian McCaffrey's maternal grandfather, Dave Sime, died on January 12, a little over a month ago. Sime was once considered the World's Fastest Human. Aside from a tribute by author David Maraniss in the Washington Post, there was little mention of Dr. David Sime's passing. He was a distinguished Ophthalmologist who treated many famous people.

Dave Sime was definitely the worlds fastest man. He held world records in 110y, 200y and 200y hurdles, defeated Morrow in 56 got injured and missed Melbourne Olympics and should have got gold past his prime in 1960 but for Hary's fast start.

I have seen the 1960 race a few times where Sime list to Armin Harry. He lost by about 2 feet. The time was only 10.2 but they were running on a cinder track. It could have been much faster.

Yes, and combine that with a short and long quarterback like Brady, with a TE that constantly sucks away the safety's attention, with a twister on the inside receiver, and the defense will **** their pants.

Not only does this kid run unbelievable juking pass patterns but he catches the ball with so much ease. How many people here think he will turn pro next year and be a top 10 pick based on what the drafting team needs. He should have won the Heisman and the internet is chock full of people who agree with me or us including many Alabama fans. The kid when he does not juke seems to slide of of so many would be tacklers. The fact that he is an academic All American at the most prestigious college in America should have given him he Heisman. I fear next season teams are going to line up 8 in the box to stop him as Stanford has no deep threat other than white dude Trent Irwin returning and a new qb.

I think Keller Chryst is the favorite at this point. Hogan was not the annointed started after Luck so anything can change though. Stanford does love it's big white QBs though.

Sports Illustrated has a decent article on McCaffrey. Better than expected and they discuss the subject of white athleticism in surprising frankness and detail. Of course Christian is an all purpose back which I would rate as the second most important position for us at CF. So he will be very IMPORTANT as we move forward. I'm racking my brain on who was the last white WR taken in the first round and Matt Jones was taken in 2005 but he was a college QB turned WR .
In order of importance I rate the positions as follows:
1- WR -(-a fast athletic wr is without doubt the biggest game changer so this past draft was a step in the right direction albeit a small step)
2- RB-( all Eyes on Christian M)
3-CB or fast athletic QB( tie)--( Go Jeff Driskell)
4-athletic fast Safeties, LB,s or DE's all about the same.
5-TE

My one huge concern with McCaffrey fo this upcoming season is obviously a new quarterback but Stanford is also replacing 3 very good offensive lineman. I watch his highlights at least twice a week and as much as he creates his own offense with jukes, raw speed or breaking numerous tackles I really have noticed Stanford's blocking was very impressive last year and created a lot of room for McCaffrey to do his work.

One thing that really irked me yesterday when I read Athlon's college football review was that they called Mccaffrey one of footballs most versatile players. WTF !!!! He IS footballs most versatile player and its best. What sucks is that coach Shaw mentioned he will be getting less touches this year to preserve him more. Dosen't make a lick of sense to me. You should want your best player touching the ball as much as possible. This pretty much ruins his chances for the Heisman.

McCaffrey is back to full-go now. His body fat is down about four percent, and his measurements -- Turley conducts a battery of tests, including a laser-time flying 20-yard dash -- have improved.

“He’s substantially better than he was during his exact training period last year,” Turley said. “So despite all the runs, catches, punt returns, and kick returns, this guy is at a higher physical level than he was last year. You’re talking about a guy who’s leaner, faster, stronger, and more explosive now.”

For once Smith is right though. Self hatred among whites is a big problem.There is no unity among whites compared to other groups.

Don wondered months ago if Ed McCaffrey had instructed his sons on the racial realities of the NFL. It appears he did, as CM says his father didn't get credit for his talent.

BTW, I've seen pieces on "Heisman Candidates" that left out Christian McCaffrey.

I haven't had time to write a detailed post on the SI article on Christian, but a couple of things stuck out. First, to the extent that race and running backs was covered, it was to mock those who see Christian as an underdog, with an allusion to all the nasty things said on the internet about White RBs not getting a fair shake, because he goes to Stanford and has had an upper-middle class upbringing, essentially the almost always bogus "White privilege" argument, while mentioning nothing (as always) about how Whites are systematically and unconscionably discriminated against when it comes to college football recruiting. If I have time and can find the article, I'll post the exact quotes.

The other thing is that none of the McCaffreys wanted to talk about Dave Sime or give him any credit for the family genes, because apparently Sime -- the father of Christian's mother Lisa -- was an absentee father to put it kindly, and didn't even know the names of his grandchildren. There was something about not giving credit to family members who had absolutely nothing to do with the success of any of the McCaffrey sons. It was clear that Sime is a complete non-entity in the McCaffrey family, though of course he did pass his genes on to Lisa and her sons.

I read the SI article and it is kind of funny that Ed Mccaffrey left the NFL with millions of dollars yet Christian still lives a very humble life, so it seems. I am 45 and am going to enjoy watching this kid as long as he runs. We may not get another one in my lifetime.

I find it funny when someone says there will never be another (fill in the blank) in our lifetime. It sounds so defeatist and final. No one knows what the future holds. There may well be another white running back with Mcaffrey like skill who emerges next year. No one knows.

It looks McCaffrey gets it. I'm glad he realizes white athletes are stereotyped. With his dad playing in the NFL as a WR, I'm guessing he did well in preparing him for things like this. Even Rotoworld says it's ridiculous how often white WRs are thrown in with Welker.

Stanford junior RB Christian McCaffrey believes that some downgrade his athleticism because of the perceptions about white athletes.

"When you read about white athletes these days and white skill possession receivers specifically, one word you'll always find is tough," McCaffrey said, adding that "[y]ou'll rarely see [descriptions like] explosive, athletic, stuff like that." The 6-foot, 197-pound Stanford stud isn't out of bounds here. The word "gritty" has been used to describe the Wes Welkers of the world so often that it borders on self-parody. McCaffrey smashed Barry Sanders' all-purpose yardage record last year with 3,864 of 'em. The word "gritty" would be underselling that achievement by a fair margin.

It's great that this is slowly being discussed and brought up by white athletes. It was such a forbidden topic for many years but over the last 4 or 5 it actually be discussed and it's great making the sports media and dwfs uncomfortable with the truth.
