Too bad McCaffrey didn't win it he was certainly deserving. I saw many posts on the intranet saying he was robbed. Most are attributing it to an SEC and East Coast bias rather than a racial bias. I however think there is a racial basis that creeps into the thinking of the voters in that if a competition is close white'swill generally give blacks the benefit of the doubt as fear of having a white racial bias.
I hope McCaffrey continued success in the future. I worry that his team overused him which can result in the future. I also have concerns for him getting a fair shot in the NFL . He will sure have to overcome the white running back bias and perhaps a Stanford running back bias. Arguably the 2 biggest white running back flops in recent memory are Tommy Vardell and as much as we hate to admit it on this site Toby Gerhart. Both of whom played for Standford. And yes Gerhart did have injuries and a bad offensive line in Jacksonville, but aside from that he has been terrible on Jacksonville. Even Robinson and Yeldon have had some limited degree of success running behind that same line. As much as we would hate to admit it Gerhart has been the poster boy as to why there are no white running backs in the NFL.
Newguy Toby did prove himself when Peterson was injured. He had a number of good games. But, the stars DID NOT align when he signed that contract almost 2 years ago. It will be interesting to see if he wants to play next year.
