I definitely would like to see Woodhead more involved in the offense this year but is the general feeling that he is undervalued by Belichick?

For example, Belichick seems to be pretty sober in his assessment of receiving talent. Maybe I am deceived but I think he definitely tries his best to win games and therefore manages touches and personnel accordingly. Hence picking up Welker and Woodhead in the first place.

How about this: if people do feel that Belichick undervalues Woodhead is it conscious or unconscious? In other words, certainly it is possible that he might subconsciously distrust that a white running back is as competent, at least in some situations, and therefore limits Woodheads touches more than he should but does anyone feel there is a conscious bias to diminish Woodhead's roll? I don't necessarily perceive this. Fans love him out here too.

Funny how the “unquestioned starter,” Stevan Ridley, is so “explosive” that he was completely de-activated during last year’s lengthy playoff run, despite the fact that he was in perfect health. Unlike Woodhead, he’s terrible at blocking blitzing defenders (See Eagles/Patriots Pre-Season game). Unlike Woodhead, he doesn’t participate on special teams whatsoever. He’s also prone to fumbling, and, unlike Woodhead, he has no receiving skills (out of the backfield) to speak of. Unlike Woodhead, who compacts his body to hide behind much larger lineman, Ridley runs upright and is easier to hit...

well, Ridley missed a few practices a while back due to knee injury and Vereen has been out the past 4 or 5 practices? I believe.

I don't see how Bellicheck doesn't see Woodhead as an everydown back. He was nicked up last year and lost his big play ability, but he still grinded out first downs, the same amount as Ridley on lesser carries, averaging 4.6 ypc without one single run over 12 yards. He wasn't used very creatively either, mostly up the gut in the hurry up offense. In the Superbowl it looked like he was back to form, on a screen pass this preseason he looked like he was back to form for sure.

From a financial standpoint they should. If Woodhead could become one of the more productive backs in the league he would sell A LOT of merchandise. He already became a fan favorite just after signing.

I detect in this political answer that he wants to be the featured back, as any running back would want to be. He's not trying to be a receiver or a "scat back." "I'm willing to do that also." I expect that by the beginning of the regular season their o-line will look a lot different than it did last year when it was majority sumo for the first time in a long time, maybe ever for that team.

I don't want to put a damper on peoples hopes but this move also could be very bad for Woodhead. I think the league looks at him as a gimmick player who excelled in Bellichick's circus offense. I don't think the geniuses that run the San Diego offense are going to use him in any kind of capacity other then strictly as an occasional third down pass catcher out of the backfield. A role played by plenty of other White fullbacks over the years.

I doubt that he's going to get many carries and if the oft injured affaletes ahead of him go down then they will just sign some others and not give more touches to him but restrict Woodhead's role to the racially appropriate slot they are going to put him in.

The history of White ball carriers after leaving the only teams that would give them a chance is extremely dismal. I see no reason why Woodhead would be different. He's not considered an elite athlete and has nothing special to set him apart.

I think it's even possible that he doesn't make it out of camp. I know that sounds extremely negative but I have seen it happen too many times to not acknowledge it. He has no history in San Diego and a minor injury and some good play by some no-name black backs has always been enough in the past to give a team a reason to let the White guy go.

In New England he had some history, some friends, some fans. Now all of that is gone. Here's to hoping that he can continue to defy the odds stacked against him and excel with the new team.

His height will always be used against him, unlike Jones-Drew and other black RBs. Depending on the new regime in San Diego, in a best case scenario he'll be used like he was in New England. We'll have to wait and see but White RBs only get the touches of a starter when all the black backs go down or are imprisoned, and Danny is "too small" for the Caste System to ever be allowed to start. Sad but true when it comes to the Caste NFL.

Well the Chargers wide receiving corp is ****.. Antonio Gates is getting old and has been more and more injury prone with every year that passes. Matthews has underachieved and Jackie Battle should not even be on an NFL roster.. If the Chargers want to win a few games this year they'd be smart to get Danny on the field as much as they can! I saw one Charger fan on facebook refer to Danny as the next Darren Sproles only white.

So I'll try and stay positive because there is already enough negative **** going on in this world. Danny's proven the haters wrong so far I don't see why he can't again. If the media wants to underestimate him that's one thing but if opposing players do that will be a grave mistake because they will be left in the dust.

Just wondering out loud. In addition addition to the black cloud of the caste system that hovers over every white player in the NFL these days, I believe its counter productive to be negative against said white players future.

I come here to see hope, truth and learn about White atheletes. Not to hear "very respected" posters become "debbie downers" about Danny's prospects when the pre season games have yet to be played. Not see the reason for that. :icon_question:
