Christian McCaffrey

So I was talking to this guy from Ireland who knows nothing about American football and he said the only NFL player he's heard of is Christian McCaffrey. That's something, I guess.

That’s great news! Hopefully the tides are turning and white men will start appreciating their own.

Finally. . . let's hope he plays beginning this week:

49ers activated Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) from injured reserve.
He will practice with the team today, though there is no actual practice report for a Monday session. McCaffrey’s 21-day window to return is now open, meaning he could return as soon as this week or as late as Week 13 against the Bills. Obviously all the reporting is pretty optimistic about a return this week, and Ian Rapoport says “he has a real chance to play this week.” We will see how practice goes for McCaffrey on Wednesday.

Perhaps it is time to give our annual McCaffrey production predictions:

230 rushes for 1215 yards and 12 TD; 60 receptions for 580 yards and 3 TD.

By all accounts C-Mac is fully healthy and ready to make up for lost time:

49ers FB Kyle Juszczyk said Christian McCaffrey looks healthy and “so explosive” ahead of training camp. The buzz continues to build around McCaffrey, who battled through bilateral Achilles tendinitis last season and was limited to just four games after suffering a PCL sprain in Week 13. McCaffrey, 29, totaled just 348 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown last season, but totaled 2,023 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2023. Assuming he stays healthy this season, McCaffrey has the chance to be poised for another big season. The veteran running back has averaged 22.1 PPR points per game in 31 games with the 49ers since being traded to them midway through the 2022 season. He’s still a three-down threat who possesses elite pass-catching upside, and could see a workload similar to 2023, when he led the league with 339 touches. As McCaffrey’s ADP continues to creep higher into the first round, it sounds like there is little reason to fade him at this point in time.

This is great news. Much like Mike Trout in MLB, CMC’s injuries have robbed us of seeing sustained greatness on par with the best to ever do it.

But the ability and glimpses are there and I am glad I’ve gotten to watch it.

Ok men, the season is nigh upon us. Predictions for CMC this season:

230 rushes for 1215 yards and 12 TD; 60 receptions for 580 yards and 3 TD.

What do you guys have?

Fair. I’m not sure who’s the backup, but they won’t overuse CMC. He’ll get a lot of red zone use, though. I think your numbers are spot on.

Didn’t practice and is questionable, but…

"I always plan to play," McCaffrey said. "I feel great about where I'm at. Unfortunately, when you have the injury history that I have, sometimes when you don't practice, things get blown out of proportion. But like I said, I feel great."

Well, we'll see.
There was a lot of subterfuge about the seriousness of his injury last year.

I hate to be a naysayer but this was the story last year, Christian saying he felt great and would play and then declared out right before the game.

Why can’t our guys stay healthy? The one running back we have that gets a fair shake and he has a massive injury history. It is infuriating.

And yes, I know black players get hurt but Marshall Faulk and LaDainian Tomlinson were the same size and incredibly durable.

This is the same issue that we see in sprinting and the problem is the numbers. There are only a handful of white running backs in the NFL compared to probably well over 100 black ones. The injury rate might be the same but when we are putting our stock into only 5 or 6 guys, it’s just a gamble whether they stay healthy or not. If there were say 50 white running backs in the NFL we would almost certainly see ones that emerge as stars and prove to be very durable. It’s all in the numbers.

So true when there are only a few great white hopes. We need more of our men to get onto the active playing rosters of teams. If we ever saw the numbers alot better then we would see so many pro bowl type players!

Maybe, but as a ratio I would be curious if our guys get hurt more. It sure seems that way. Put it this way: while there may be one hundred black backs, 50 of them are not getting hurt nor are all 100.

But Skattebo was hurt in the preseason, CMC cannot stay healthy (which is putting his HOF status in serious doubt) and now even Shipley hurts his ribs after three touches?

We can do without a derogatory term which has been used for over a century to mean a hapless loser.

I was looking at the Clemson injury report and all three players injured in the first game last week are black and unable to play this week. I don't know the answer as to why it seems white players get injured more, but when I see this, I'm not sure that it's race related. We just seem to be having a run of injuries lately and it especially hurts when it's the skill positions as we don't have as many to lose.

Tough day with no running lanes, but he capped a 142 yard day with 69 on the ground and 73 in the air. His ypc will go up as soon as next week against a weak New Orleans defense.

My only worry is over-usage due to another abundance of injuries on the 49ers. They have the worst training staff in the league, it seems.

Almost buck fifty total yards is amazing since we know he wasn't full tilt. Speed looked good. Blocking was sketchy, it will be an issue down the road. I like the fact that he seemed to ask for a breather now and then.
