It's no surprise that Hogan has begun to emerge since Kyle Orton was elevated to starting quarterback. Remember, when Orton arrived in late August, Hogan was deeper on the depth chart, and they formed a connection as Orton learned the offense.

"Between me and him, when he first got here he was doing some scout team stuff with me, and that gave us a little more time to get more associated with each other; how he throws the ball, how I run routes, so that's definitely helped," said Hogan.

All 12 of Hogan's receptions have been delivered by Orton, who became the starter three weeks ago in Detroit.

"The key for me is going out there every Sunday knowing my assignment," Hogan said. "Kyle and I have a pretty good chemistry, he trusts me on the field to know what I'm supposed to do. I'm getting pretty good separation from the DBs and catching a few passes here and there, so that has a lot to do with the playing time I'm getting now."

When Hogan looks back on his decision to play lacrosse in college, he admits that despite the success and the fun that he had, if he could go back in time he would have chosen to pursue football. But in the end, based on where he is now, it really didn't matter.

When Hogan was with another team, Miami I think, he played very well in preseason. He acquired the nickname 7-11 because he was always open. He got cut anyway.

He's been serving his racial apprenticeship for a couple of years and now he's finally getting a chance.

He should have been starting a couple of years ago.

Interesting comment by the Bills' head coach Doug Marrone: “Chris was a guy – and I’ve never mentioned this to Chris – that you looked at and were looking for reasons why maybe he shouldn’t be on the team,â€￾ the Buffalo Bills’ coach said.

Of course there's no downside to saying something like that. Lovie Smith said that Brock Forsey, one of the best college running backs of the past 20 years, "looked like a waterboy" with no repercussions. Bobby Bowden fell over laughing when asked if he'd ever recruit a White running back to Florida State. If Marrone would say the same thing about a black quarterback -- "Jamal was a guy you looked at and were looking for reasons why maybe he shouldn't be on the team" -- he'd be out of a job in a New York second.

Hogan is one of the few good stories this season along with Bersin down in Carolina. It's amazing how Hogan's effectiveness went up once Orton was given the starting job. I wish him a healthy and productive rest of the season.

This comment makes no sense. Chris isn’t some diminutive slot receiver. He’s a big-bodied 6-1, 215 lbs, runs a 4.39 40, and did an amazing 28 reps at 225 lbs.

I’d compare his body type to that of Jeremy Maclin...

I heard about Hogan’s Casteon torture-session in Miami at CF, but never saw him play until this season (and briefly last season). The guy simply has “it.” He’s delivers in the clutch and he’s always open. Given the amount of teams he’s been screwed by over the years, his resiliency is impressive.

Then, he cleverly utilizes several maddening, backhanded “compliments” about Hogan uttered by Bills head coach, Doug Marrone, during an interview several weeks ago…

Dolphin fans should remember wide receiver Chris Hogan, a former lacrosse star who signed as a free agent with the Dolphins in the summer of 2013 after playing one year of football at Monmouth College. Hogan was dubbed “7-Eleven” by Chad Ochocinco in training camp because he was “always open.”

After being cut by Miami, Hogan caught on with Buffalo and, despite his many critics, has played an increasingly important role, catching 18 passes for 233 yards for two touchdowns this season.

Head coach Doug Marrone said he’s been intrigued by the 6-foot-1, 220-pounder, who actually looks smaller than that on the field.

“Even when he came here, he was on the bubble,” Marrone said this week. “He’s competitive as hell, obviously. And every time you think ‘Should we keep Chris or somebody else?’ he just keeps battling and making plays, to where you say to yourself, ‘Hey, we’ve got to keep this guy.’

“We got to where it was, hey, maybe we can move him into the slot, maybe we can move out to (wide receiver), see if he can win the man-to-man matchups you need to be successful. We like the way he’s progressing. It’s a great story; he’s a great kid, and has earned everything he has.”

Despite this, he’s accrued nearly the same amount of receiving yardage as former 2nd round pick, Robert Woods (307 yards compared to 361 yards), he’s averaging a higher YPC than Woods (12.3 compared to 10), and has the same number of receiving TD’s as Woods (2). So which of these two players should have “many critics?”

Now let’s address the height/weight fallacy. Hogan and Watkins are both listed at 6’ 1”, while Woods, one of frailest, weakest, least muscular receivers in the league, is listed at 6’ 0” (yeah, right). So why does the little twerp, Woods, avoid criticism for his physical attributes, even though he's shorter than Hogan? Oh, and then there’s the little fact that the “undrafted nobody,” Hogan, is much, much stronger than Woods (2nd rounder) and Watkins (1st rounder). Hogan did 28 reps at 225 lbs, Watkins did 16, and Woods did 14. So who’s the real weakling?

Then there’s the inconvenient fact that Hogan actually ran a faster 40-yard dash (4.39 seconds) than Woods (4.42 seconds) and Watkins (4.43 seconds). But guess who’s forced to risk concussions playing in the slot?

Hogan is being treated like a “kid brother” who’s lucky to even be in the NFL. In reality, he’s a reliable, strong, fast, athletic, up-and-coming player who earned his position the hard way and has been making the most of it in 2014...

A+ post. Hogan has the size,strength and speed to be a starting receiver. In two games Orton missed him wide open for a possible score. If only he were on a roster like NE. My fear is that if they go back to Manuel he will see no targets.

I ageee. I dont want to see Manuel's face again, but Orton is a pure statue in the pocket. He cant scramble to save his life. He will only succeed if Buffalo improves the O-line.

I like Locker as a fit in Buffalo, but I can only see that happening if the new owner cleans house. The current coaching staff seems to like Manuel as the backup.

That being said,now that we have Rex Ryan as a coach,I guarantee that Hogan gets cut.He keeps talking up China Doll Goodwin every chance he gets and brought Head Case Harvin in.Ryan is another in a long line of DWF coaches who are in total awe of the black athlete and is a true believer in their vast athletic superiority.This is the same man who cut Danny Woodhead.If my prediction comes true and is coupled with any QB on the roster other than Matt Cassel being the starter,I will sadly be a FORMER Bills fan !!!!

Bills are starting Cassell in first preseason game ,this should bode well for Hogan. Hope to see them develop chemistry throughout the year. As for Harvin he's an overrated,injury prone, wannabe thug. I predict he'll be lucky to play 8games this year based on his fragile ass track record.

If Hogan was black Hogan would be a lock for a starting position. The fans and coaches would be expressing excitement about his prospects.

Instead he seems to be in the position of having to fight for playing time, which is par for the course for white receivers.

If I were the coach I'd name him one of my starting receivers and be done with it.

It's amazing that someone like Hogan has to even fight for a 4th or 5th roster spot after the season he had last year. His story is proof positive of the caste sysem - I hope the Patriots are monitoring him.

Sanjay better be careful----Whaley may demand that Fat Rex fire him for such blasphemy !!!!
