Why is this relevant here on Castefootball? Who here cares about Zach Randolph?

This is for whiteathlete. I' m a huge Larry Bird Fan. I always have been and always will be. He is one of the greatest of all time with out a doubt. The main problem is that he didn't play long enough. I could almost say that "Hondo" John Havlicek was as good or better. Bird had major back problems the hampered and evenutally shortened his career. The fact that he still averaged 10 rebounds a game for his whole career is phenomenal. When I'm comparing Love to him or other legends, I'm not trying to knock on Bird. Please don't think I am because Bird was a stud. One of the greatest and he will be talked about 50 years from now. Put Love on those great Celtic Teams and I guarantee he would have several rings too. Playing with guys like Mchale, Walton, Parrish, DJ and Danny Ainge to name just a few.

Love plays on a team where he is the only all star. Think about that for a second. It's like what Nowitzki has dealt with in Dallas his whole career. It's amazing that Dirk won a ring and has been to the Nba Finals twice. He has had very little support. I think Kevin Love is even a little better than Nowitzki. That is very hard to say as I'm also a huge Dirk Nowitzki Fan. I really want to see him get 30,000 career points. He has a good chane. That being said, Love is a player like the which I have never seen. He is a very good athlete. Incredible shooter, good passer and the toughest rebounder I've ever seen in my life. He would probably block alot more shots if he didn't use so much energy on getting rebounds night after night. The guy leads the league every year. He is a legend already.

How about we forget the comparisons for now but I want more people here to get exicted about Kevin Love. He is the best player in the nba. He needs to win some rings so this team better start improving. He can't do it all by himself.

Glad to see Sved, Rubio and Pek all play great last night. Love could have had another 35 to 40 point game but he barely played. One last thing on Love. Last night again he already had a double/double by half time. The kid is a phenom! Get on board and support the Twolves!

I really need to catch a few T-Wolves games this season. Don't follow the NBA much at all but I want to see Rubio and Love in action.

Regarding Kevin Love, although there are many upper-echelon White players—with several having a legit claim to be "superstars" (and even among the more numerous Black players in the league, there aren't that many TRUE superstars)—it is a nice sea change to witness a nice, White AMERICAN basketball superstar get up there and take the rest of the league to school.

Having said all that, comparing Kevin Love's game in today's crap league to Larry Bird's is a bit of a stretch.

Bird faced better competition, I think.

And, having said all THAT, I think Love could have been a contender in the 1980s, too.

A lot of these so-called NBA talents today would get boxed out and shut down in an earlier era.

If some dumb-f*ck tried to do the typical, TNB running-start, traveling-but-I-won't-get-called-for-it, slam dunk, somebody like Bill Lambier or Anthony Mason would probably greet that dude with a healthy elbow to the jaw.

I'm a big Kevin Love fan, but he can't be compared to Larry Bird yet. Bird was a beast who was a winner at every level. At this point, Love is accumulating very good stats...but Larry Bird was setting else, indescribably good.

Mr. Double/Double Kevin Love has 18 points and 8 boards at the half. The Twolves are winning by 9 points at he half against the Bucks. They are playing on back to back nights so I'm hoping they can keep their energy level up in the 2nd half. Love looks great. Sved is getting a few more minutes.Glad to see him shooting the ball better.

Yeah WL, Love should get all he can now, probably won't play in the 4th quarter. Wolves up 29 with 2 mins. left in the 3rd.

for fans of delicious basketball, here you go:

Kyle Wagner of Deadspin said:
This is something very close to basketball heroin. Two minutes of Kevin Love tossing heat-seeking outlet passes to start Minnesota fast breaks. It's mesmerizing—almost more so without the sound from whatever copyrighted song was originally in there.

In that Love highlight film, the Timberwolves appear to have 2 or 3 blacks on the floor most of the time, quite a change from last year's breakthrough albeit injury prone all-White starting 5. What is their starting lineup right now and have injuries skewed it?

Sorry, still haven't been able to force myself to watch an NBA game yet this season and likely won't after the NFL's over either as it becomes prime NHL watching time leading into the Stanley Cup Playoffs along with the onset of the PGA Tour. And any other NBA teams currently starting 3 Mighty Whiteys?

They have slightly darkened up since last year. Last year I believe they started 4 whites for good portions of the season and five whites on the floor at the same time was a common sight. This year they start Love, Rubio, and Pekovic. Chase Budinger is injured, though I am not sure if he will start over black Corey Brewer at the small forward position when he returns. Other than those four they have three other whites on the roster, Robbie Hummel, Alexey Shved, and J.J Barea. Their center, Nikola Pekovic, is considered by many the strongest player in the NBA and he's a heck of a rebounder as well.

Minnesota's starting lineup has had 3 whiteys all season, Love, Pekovic, and Rubio. Brewer and Kevin Martin are the other 2 black starters. No other teams start 3 whites consistently, however, I believe the Lakers have started Blake, Kaman, and Gasol at times before Blake was injured.

There are some teams starting 2 white players, I guess, depending on who you call white.

Most notably,

Lee and Bogut, Golden State

Dragic and Plumlee, Phoenix

Parsons and Lin(if you consider Lin white) and Cassipi getting a lot of playing time lately, Houston

Nowitzki and Calderon, Dallas, again if you consider Calderon white.

Hinrich and Dunleavy, Chicago

Anderson and Smith, New Orleans, before Smith was injured.

Hayward and Kanter, Utah, before Kanter was injured.

There could be more. Those come to mind off the top of my head.

If you take the starters off those 8 teams and throw in the 3 from the Lakers, that would be 20 of 45 starters being white, or 44%. If the rest of the NBA reflected those numbers, it almost be worth watching more. Remember, I said almost.

How many NFL teams are starting 40% or 9 white players?

I'd definitely say that Calderon is white:

But yeah, I think the NBA has definitely become a bit more watchable this year. To add to Carolina's list, I'd also say that the Spurs are worth watching as well. They have two white starters in Tiago Splitter and Marco Belinelli, in addition to one of the Spur's "Big Three" Manu Ginobli, who comes off the bench, but easily plays starters minutes many nights. I still don't watch games very much at all yet (I have watched a couple T-Wolves and Spurs games, and I enjoy watching college ball more), but it's still nice to see this uptick in white starters.

Thanks JL. That means another team with at least 2 starters or 40%, or 8/9 teams depending on whose injured or not. I believe Don updated me on the NFL having 4 teams that have at least 9 starters, or 40% or more. So, that's 12.5% for the NFL and at the minimum, 26.7% NBA. Really surprising.

If Alex Len can get healthy, at some point he could become a starter for the Suns at Center. That would give the Suns 3 starters. The Bobcats could have two starters before too long. The Knicks might by next year because Carmelo Anthony is going to leave for another team in my opinion. He wants out of NY. I want to see the Twolves get back up to 4 and stay there. They passed Denver last night in the standings and despite being a 500 team at the moment, they are only 9 1/2 games out off first with around 14 games to go until the half way point of the season. I would like to see them close the gap down to around 5 games by the all star break.

Kevin Love is also still leading the league in rebounding and very close to overtaking Durant for 2nd on the scoring leaders. I hope he can continue his fine play as he has averaged over 30 points a game in the last several weeks. If it wasn't for two blowout wins where he was pulled early in the games, he would have already passed him.

So again guys I say where's the Love for Love? Haha. He is the best player in the nba! Let's try our best to give him alot of support.

Yeah WL, they'll be a Caste busting matchup Monday night when Dallas plays Minnesota. Five white starters between the 2 teams and other white players coming off the bench!

Hey Carolina Speed. What is your take on Dirk Nowitzki and his career? I've been very pleased. For him to still average 21 points a game at his age is amazing. Despite the wear and tear on his body he still brings it every night. Do you think he can get over 30,000 points? I will await your response. I want him to be a top 5 all time scorer before he retires. Havlicek is still 10th after all these years. Amazing.

Sorry white lightning, I left for the gym right after my last post. I'm getting old, have to try and stay in some kind of shape:icon_lol:

Anyway, Dirk Nowitzki. A poor man's Larry Bird, maybe? Does that sound about right? Although Nowitzki has more points and rebounds than Bird, he has played about 6 more seasons already and obviously still has some left in the tank. Bird only played about 10 full seasons and got 3 rings. Nowitzki is in his 16 the season, 1 ring.. Bird averaged more points, rebounds, and assists than Dirk! Bird was a great passer!

I didn't watch much NBA after the 70'/80's, so it's difficult for me to compare to some contemporary players, but I did watch Nowitzki some in the 2000's. Very athletic for a 7'0 footer! I think Nowitzki will be remembered as a unique player.

Yes, Dirk should get 30,000 points. All he has to do is average around 16/game over the next 3 1/2years or 20 over the next 2 1/2 years. That would put him at 37/38 years of age. Yes he can do it easily, if he stays healthy. It would be nice to get a white player in the top all-time!

I think most of us here on the board are not giving Dirk the credit he deserves for what he does on the court. If he scores over 30,000 points he has to be considered one of the greatest players of all time. That would put his scoring up in the range of Jordan, Malone and Kareem. The top three scorers of all time. Kobe keeps getting hurt so who knows if he can go too much longer. Lebron at some point has to slow down but he is still young. Dirk has been to two championships and is 1-1 in the nba finals. The Mavs should have two rings but the refs controlled the first series like Mark Cuban said. It was when Cuban was getting fined all year for speaking the truth about the refs. Dwayne Wade shot more free throws than anyone I've ever seen in a finals. The Mavs could not play defense. If they looked at someone it was a foul. This after the Mavs had a 2-0 lead and then lost the 3rd game in overtime. Not buying it. Dirk was the mvp that year and they should have won the title both times.

All I'm saying is to not say Dirk is even in Birds category is not true. Like him or not, Dirk is a legend and his numbers are incredible. Even if Bird played another 6 or 7 years, there is no guarantee he would have played at near the level. Birds career numbers are higher averages per game only because he retired younger. I love Larry Bird but I also love Nowitzki and now Love. All three are some of the greatest basketball players that I have ever watched in my life yet they get very little publicity.

White Lightning, I wasn't trying to take anything away from Nowitzki. I think he'll go down as one of the all-time great players/scorers, I just think that much of Larry Bird. Admittedly, I have watched a lot more of Bird than Nowitzki.

Bird, Pts/G: 24.3 Reb/G: 10.0 Ast./G: 6.3 Stl./G: 1.7 FG%: .496 3P% .376 FT% .886 2P%: .509

Bird: 3 NBA titles and 3 MVP's

Nowitzki, Pts./G: 22.6 Reb/G: 8.2 Ast./G: 2.6 Stl./G: .9 FG%: .475 3P% .382 FT% .878 2P%: .497

Nowitzki: 1 NBA title and 1 or 2 MVP's. I'm not sure.

Again, nothing taken away from Nowitzki. He's an all-time great. I just saw a lot more of Bird. Bird's career averages are all better than Nowitzki's, except 3P%. Bird's assist average is way better than Nowitzki's. Bird was not only a great scorer, he was a great rebounder and passer. He has a career double/double average!

Bird has more titles and more MVP's. To me, Bird was one of those guys who made average players look and play better. Bird was still averaging a 20/9 in his mid 30's until he hurt his back. Nowitzki came into the NBA at 20, Bird was a 23 year old rookie. Bird won a title the next season at 24, his second season.

I don't know how else to say it. Just a great, great basketball player.

If he isn't the best, which I think he is, he's in the top 2/3!

With Nowitzki, I haven't watched him as much and he still has a lot left. He should get 30,000 points and that will be awesome, especially if he can get in the top 4/5. He'll go down as one of the all-time great players.

I do think Kevin Love, if he can stay healthy, can be better than Nowitzki, but he's got a lot of work to do!

Remember, Dallas at Minnesota tonight!
