    World record in 100 meters

In the light of the revelations about the USOC's cover-ups of failed drug tests esp. as regards Carl Lewis, Johnson has reason to be bitter. Many of his competitors were protected. Must have been galling to him to have been reviled as the corrupter of the Olympic spirit by the the likes of...

    Reality!

Well said Jimmy Chitwood. Unlikely though it might seem, the Jeff Blake interview cited on some other threads certainly buttresses your point. While saying he thinks there should be more black NFL QB's he wonders where all the great white high school running backs, receivers and tracksters he...

    400 meter depth

England is developing some good 400 runners. Martyn Rooney broke Roger Black's under 20 record going 45.35 in March I believe.

    Carl Lewis

I've read that the stimulants he tested positive for were the type used to cover other illegal substances at the time. Steroids increase muscle strength and also help in bouncing back from injury. 2/10th's is what separated Lewis from the rest of the field at the '83 Worlds for instance.

    Texas HS State Meet

Great info SteveB. A tough question I know, but do you have a general idea about the number of Texas HS sprinters that get D1 and specifically Big 12 track scholarships for sprinting? It would interesting to "track" that and see, for example, how many black sprinters that aren't as fast as...

    Steve Largent

Largent was a good high school RB before moving to receiver. Most people were surprised that Largent went with a football offer when baseball was considered his best sport. He was a catcher and one of his pitchers was ML'er Bob Shirley. NFL QB Pat Ryan was one of their teammates. Come...

    High School Junior David Klech

This is a snippet from sfgate.com article: There's only a month left in the 2005-06 prep season. Before it ends get out to see at least one of the following: -- David Klech (California) run a 300-meter hurdles race. Track experts have had little reservation calling the 6-foot-4 senior the...

Am I wrong to feel like things are starting to turn just a little bit? Seems like a some depth is starting to develop among the white sprinters. Good updates guys.

    Steve Nash

Staley is right about the empirical evidence being there but it is stil a tough haul to make the average fan really see it. Many basketball fans easily forget or never take notice when the US is beaten by other countries. ESPN doesn't make much of it. Does anybody know what kind of televison...

    High School Junior David Klech

In a dual meet April 20, Klech ran a 47.77 400. In same dual LJ'ed 22-3 and TJ'ed 44-1. At some point this season he brought his 110 PR down to 13.69!

    Wariner’s Success Is Not Extraordinary

Man it gets tedious but I will respond. Citing Rono's world record tear in '78 is just a stupid way to buttress the argument that the Kenyans were so hurt by missing the '76 and '80 Olympics. Saying that East African running blossomed in the late '80s because of increased commercialization...

    Wariner’s Success Is Not Extraordinary

I was hoping you would take up the cudgels on this one Colonel. I would only add that free_safety should quickly peruse results from Olympic and World championships that will limn your thesis perfectly. I would refer free_safety to the World Championships thread on this site which has postings...

    Fast HSer

I saw a good 400 performance from Lukas Hulett at the KU Relays. He did a 47.28 prelim and won the final in 47.39. Looked easy for him. He is from Bellevue East in Omaha and has signed with Nebraska.

Gumbel to do pbp on NFL Network games

Does he have pictures of Tagliabue with a donkey? Hiring that supercilious POS is a sadistic joke. A cruel challenge to fans indeed. Who out there actually admits to enjoying the patronizing blather of this specious fool? The caste system has reared its ugly head in a big way with this move.

http://www.masterstrack.com/news2003/feb26.html This doesn't have to do with Drake. It is an interview with Marty Krulee. If you remember him and Mark Lutz from the '70' and '80's you are a track fan. The interview briefly touches on the race angle.

    Jeremy Wariner

Klech really is amazing. I saw an article a couple of weeks ago that said he ran the 800 in a dual meet and won it in 1:53.1! I agree with you Colonel regarding the Wariner effect(see SteveB's post on Texas HS'ers) but it will be a slow progression I think, esp. considering where track stands...
