The class is highlighted by the No. 1 returning intermediate hurdler in the US, David Klech, of San Ramon, CA (California HS). Klech is one of the most versatile, high-end performers in the country, competing in the hurdles and the jumps. Klech's top prep marks going into his senior year include - 13.90 (110mH), 36.06 (300mIH), 51.28 (400mH), 7-0.75 (High Jump) and 24-7.75w (Long Jump).
Klech is the No. 1 returning athlete in both the 110mH and 300mH in the state of California and is the No. 1 returning senior in the nation in the 300mH. Klech's 400m hurdle time of 51.28 is the No.1 returning mark in the nation. His top 110mH time of 13.90 is the No. 3 returning mark in the nation for a senior. Klech's high jump mark of 7-0.75 is the top returning mark in the nation and he also holds the top returning long jump mark in the state and the No. 2 returning mark in the nation at 24-7.75.
"We love David's versatility and abilities in various events, but we definitely want to develop him in a matter consistent with his Olympic goals," said Venegas. "At UCLA, we envision him as a hurdle and jump performer."
He is also a star in cross country.
