i always liked him because he comes from the same place as me

he has an intersting story
as you know, i am from grenoble, and giroud too
he played in the local club, GF38, wich was in 3rd division at that time
and GF38 didn't see the talent he had
a few years after that, giroud became top scorer in 2nd division, and now he plays in first division (and he has the talent to be france's foward in the national team)

it's funny because today, GF38 doesn't exist, 2 years after playing in first division
they palced last of the first division (only one defeat from beating the legendary record of defeats in a row by manchester united)
and next year, last of the second division
and the club was closed the same year because of financial problems
so there is a justice

I agree that mental lapses could sometimes be an issue...I remember the Euro 2008 qualifier between Russian and Andorra. The Russians needed a win against the minnow in order to qualify and the game eventually finished 1:0 in their favour, but the Eastern Europeans almost self-sabotaged and there was a nervy end to the game after Arshavin was sent off (subsequently he was banned for the first two group stage matches, but came back strong and was very influential in the 1/4 final against the Netherlands).
I think that Arshavin was initially very eager to prove himself (he has already cemented his place in the history books with his four goals against Liverpool), but the turmoil which beset Arsenal (the string of bad results and the constant player rotations) must have affected his confidence. I get the impression that he is the type of player who needs to play every game (preferably as a starter), otherwise he is usually not that effective. Also, he is usually tightly marked by defenders (and they are now better able to anticipate his moves, as Arshavin is no longer an unknown quantity in the Premier League). His partnership with Bendtner was also promising, but the Dane is now a Sunderland player.
Pavlyuchenko has actually done quite well in his few appearances (he always poses an attacking threat and his goals per minutes played ratio is not too shabby), so I am not worried (he will be in top shape for the Euros). I would say that he is not among the Tottenham coach's favourites (one also has to take into account that the club is loaded with strikers - Defoe, Adebayor, Gio dos Santos, etc. and the coach prefers to stack the midfield) and definitely deserves more playing time. Pavlyuchenko is a very unconventional player and often scores beautiful goals.
As for Pogrebnyak - he is still adjusting to the Bundesliga and is usually an understudy to Cacau, but I am sure that he will come good. He used to be better than Pavlyuchenko, but is no longer very clinical in front of goal.

I really like the Russian team and I could definitely see them going far at Euro 2012. Akinfeev is one of the best goalkeepers in Europe and possesses amazing reflexes (he is currently injured, but should be able to recover in time for the competition), the Russian defenders are quite solid and there are also a number of interesting players in midfield (Denisov and Dzagoev are footballers who are very capable of unlocking defenses).
Russia has rarely had rub of green when it comes to refereeing decisions (i.e. Ovchinnikov was harshly sent off at Euro 2004, Kerzhakov received an unfortunate red card in a 2009 World Cup playoff match against Slovenia), but I hope that things will be different this time.

@backrow, good call on Lewandowski, he is likely to be a starter for Poland and can deliver the goods (even against the top teams like Germany).

in champions league, he is not in the roster, that means that he will only be able to play in the second phase, like forlan, in february i think

Milan is looking for a replacement for Cassano who underwent heart surgery and will be out probably for the rest of the season. So for now they are looking for a player on loan if possible. But if Maxi proves himself and the supporters like him, he could do great.
Let's wait and see. Other players that are mentioned for that position are Borriello from Roma and even Drogba or Anelka:icon_rolleyes:.
