Great call on Huntelaar and Di Natale, they tend to do the business for both their club sides and national teams (though the latter is rarely called up to the Azzurri squad) and are in many respects "pure strikers" (like Gerd Müller and Filippo Inzaghi).

Frederic, indeed, the Bundesliga seems to be on the rise (on a good day Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are more than a match for the top Premier League sides and possibly Real Madrid) while Italian clubs like Inter and AC Milan could be deadly in elimination games. It will be interesting to see which team will be the first to find a recipe against FC Barcelona's tiki-taka.

Antonio Di Natale from Italy's Udinese is the most underrated player in the world. He's got 70 goals and 16 assists in his last 84 league games - these are Messi and Ronaldo type of numbers. What's amazing is that Di Natale is now 34 and he's been getting better with age. He's not only a clinical finisher, but has great skills on the ball. I find it hard to understand how he's been stuck with a small club like Udinese when he should be playing for the likes of Barcelona.

Di Natale wants to stay in Udine because of family reasons. Last year he refused to go to Juventus.
He is also ignored by the Italian national team selector who preferred Iaquinta to him in the world cup (Di Natale 29 goals in 2009/10 serie A season, Iaquinta 6 goals), and that is one of the big reasons why they crashed out so quickly. For the Euro they will probably force Balotelli instead of Di Natale.
Udinese is a relatively small team but they are world famous for their scouting system and "buy-low-sell-high" business model. The Sanchez transfer to Barcelona (for some 40 milloin Euros) is a typical example. They have scouts in all of South America and eastern Europe (focusing mostly on "secondary" markets like Chile, Colombia, Slovenia, Switzerland which are mostly ignored by the big teams who prefer to focus on places like Brasil and Argentina). For example, in the world cup 2010, Udinese had no less than 9 players in various national teams, way more than some much bigger teams: Samir Handanovic (Slovenia), Mauricio Isla (Cile), Alexi Sanchez (Chile), Aleksandar Luckovic (Serbia), Gokhan Inler (Switzerland), Simone Pepe (Italy), Kwadwo Asamoah (Ghana), Alexis Sanchez (Chile) and Antonio Di Natale (Italy).

Cassano and Rossi are out because of major injuries, and it's not sure if they'll be ready for Euro 2012. Because of this, I expect Balotelli to be on the team. Balotelli will be competing with Pazzini, Matri, and Argentine transplant Osvaldo to get in the starting lineup. I can't see how Di Natale can be left out of the squad entirely because right now he is Italy's most in-form striker, and is the leading goal scorer in Serie A.

I really don't see how any justification for going with Balotelli. He is not a guaranteed starter on his team, unlike Silva and Aguero. Most of his goals I've seen were tap-ins resulting from chances created by Silva, Milner, etc.

Robin van Persie has been playing some brilliant football in the past 12 months, and he's by far the best center forward in the English league. In the 2011 calendar year, he scored an amazing 50 goals for Arsenal and Holland. For Arsenal, he's been like a one-man team, especially since Fabregas left.

He's in the form of his life right now. If not for his injury problems, he'd have established himself as a legend.

Not sure why Milan's coach Allegri doesn't play Maxi from the first minute, especially now that Ibrahimovic is out. Instead preferring to play robinho who was one of the worst on the pitch. Let's hope this performance will "break the ice"... Robinho should be put on the transfer list.

Horrible day for Inter, and even Forlan prformed badly in their thrashing loss at home against Bologna (0:3).
Lucio who was a giant against Milan several weeks ago was a dwarf in the last couple of games including this one. Defenders Ranocchia and Nagatomo terrible. Bologna's third goal scored after their player (Acquafresca) makes fools of not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 Inter defenders who were tripping over each other like in a under-8 game - hilarious!
Not sure what is going on within Inter. On paper they have a strong team, on the field it is a different story. There is intense talk about Capello replacing Ranieri as the coach of Inter. We'll see...

i am still amazed by how giroud for example came out of nowhere and became the best striker of ligue 1
it makes me proud also that he is from the same city as me
the french national team could be (should be) 100% white right now, but since the country has so many non-whites, we will always have non-whites in the team
but it's really impressive to have so many french white players doing well, because i repeat that very very very few whites play soccer in france

but although gillet is ethnically french, his nationality is belgian (from wallonia, the french speaking part of belgium)

regarding internazionale, imagine being a player from their team: most of their players are over 30 years old, and since they see that the team is changing, they think about leaving too (because the president showed they wanted to change the team when they sold motta)
they are not motivated, and they lost a key player (motta)
when wotta was injuried, internazionale was bad at the start of the season
now that he left, internazionale is bad again

an update about the duel between higuain the white argentine and the french arab benzema, both real madrid strikers :

higuain is the 3rd top scorer of the spanish league with 17 goals
benzema, who is considered the number one striker in real madrid, only scored 13 goals
and benzema played more than higuain (1200 minutes for higuain, 1400 for benzema)

some said that higuain scored less than benzema in champions league, but higuain started only 1 match in champions league, so how can he score as much as benzema, who started almost every match?
