Brian Leonard, RB Bengals: actually given carries, 13 for 36, which is not very good although Scott wouldn't do much better if you consider that over half of his 119 yards came on a 61 yard, still, can't take it away from him. Brian wasn't used in the passing game, although he served as decoy and helped Palmer into the end zone.

He sure is a talented athlete, so why wasn't he playing sooner? Could this young man be faster than Dallas Clark? Look at Gary's neck!

the problem here was that Gary is not a tight end, really!
he's a wide receiver.
even at 247 he runs 4.6 flat so i am guessing that shedding 10 pounds he could go down to 4.5, which is plenty fast for a guy as tall as he is and faster than half the receivers in the league. that he's even listed as TE is silly, since then the excuse not to use him is his subpar blocking (subpar for a white TE, you are expected to catch everything in sight AND block like a o-linemen).

Not blocking well enough is the excuse that's been used to keep Chase Coffman inactive all season thus far. In the meantime, with Henry on IR, Coles looking washed up and Caldwell a journeyman, Coffman would be a nice receiving weapon for Carson Palmer. But no, apparently he has to bulk up and become a blocking demon before his receiving skills can be used. What a misuse and waste of a real talent.

Coffman would be just as effective in the NFL as he was in college. Two other white tight ends that should be starting or at least getting more playing time are Craig Stevens and Jacob Tamme. The Colts already have a great white TE in Clark but Tamme should be used as well. Both of these guys run in the 4.5 so they are very athletic. Stevens is 3rd on the Titans depth chart behind two losers in Crumpler and Scaife.

Bad break for Chase Coffman. Of course, no one seems to remember that when Tony Gonzales entered the league, he couldn't block to save his life. In fact, for the first 5 or 6 years Tony was a blocking liability, yet because of his receiving skills (and first-round draft choice status) he played.

Garrett Mills has been the most screwed-over tight end I can recall. Coffman at least should get an opportunity at some point, even if it's in a way that distorts and misuses his skills. Mills was the most prolific receiving TE in NCAA history and would have been a dynamic receiving TE in the NFL (better yet a big WR) but has been effectively buried, first in New England and then in Minnesota.

Looking on the positive side of things we have tons of great white tight ends in the league now. Dallas Clark, Jason Witten, Owen Daniels, Chris Cooley, Heath Miller and Jeremy Shockey. Thinking back to the 90's it is a great improvement. Wesley Walls was the best white tight end then but now we have at least 10 just as good or better than him.

Plus if you add the guys I mentioned before into the mix in Tamme and Stevens we have even more depth at the position. Tamme is stuck behind Clark but Stevens could be a starter on many teams. You can see where the caste system comes into play as well because alot of these white TE's run in the 4.5 range despite being at least 30 pounds heavier than receivers. The average speed in the NFL for receivers is around the 4.5 range. Imagine these players losing 30 lbs. They would be incredible receivers.

Mills treatment was always a big ???. Pats are fairly open to white players (although Dave Thomas didn't get much of s hot from them) and it seems like he would be a perfect match for them, or just about any team. He could possibly be better than Clark and Daniels, and that's a tall order, not sure why he hasn't resurfaced yet, and will he ever?

Could it be his lack of height? Mills is only 6'1 and that could be a reason he isn't getting playing time. That would make him the shortest TE in the league.

Dave Thomas just had a 37 yard reception. Saints are lining up Thomas and Shockey on opposite sides as wide receivers quite a bit. They have been the primary targets for Brees so far except one pass in the redzone.Edited by: dwid

Wow, great day for white TEs! Deadlift must have created a good omen lol.

But be prepared to get sick to your stomachs when thug assaulters Bernard Scott and Larry Johnson (the latter a woman beater) are fed the ball over Brian Leonard to the tune of under 3 YPC. Maybe "reverse jinxing" will work in this case. Leonard hasn't really gotten a shot to run the ball this year and has been only used as a receiving back. Hopefully Marvin Lewis will wise up!
