Vasyl Lomachenko

He's impressive first time seeing him fight live. Think he just broke his left hand though.
 
Vasyl Lomachenko Drops, Dominates Piriyapinyo To Win

"Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macau, Macau - Two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko (3-1, 1KO) won a twelve round unanimous decision over mandatory challenger Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo (52-2, 33KOs) to retain the WBO featherweight championship for the first time. All three judges had it a shutout, 120-107.

Lomachenko took control early, using his boxing skills to frustrate Piriyapinyo in the early rounds. It was a calculated boxing match with Lomachenko using pawing shots to set up much bigger punches. Lomachenko was really working over Piriyapinyo in the third with shots to the head and body. The Thai challenger was barely able to keep up as he was getting hit with shots from all angles."

My goodness I dont know when the last time I saw boxing like that! That young man is just plain scary. I wonder how far up he might eventually go in weight.

I can't believe this kid was under my radar. What an outstanding display of hands, feet, distance and defense.

He appears to have it all and with the right handling will be champion for a long-time to come.

Talk about "the sweet science", He personifies it!
 
The Puerto Rican he just fought was solid too. He'd never been stopped before.
 
Lomo destroyed the guy mentally as well as physically. You could just see it on his face. To be so outclassed must be devastating to a topnotch fighter. I don't blame the kid for taking the ten count.
 
I'm a bit of a boxing novice but he looked extremely good in that fight. Exciting to watch. Amazing speed yet technical at the same time. The black sounding announcer (former fighter?) said he had him in his top 5 pound for pound.

I also see that Vasyl won gold medals at back to back Olympics. Someone to keep an eye on for sure!

I dont know, but Lomo said before his last fight that he "wants to fight the other champions, and if he cant get those fights he wants the number one contender". I love this dudes attitude. He KNOWS he is the man, and that nobody can legally beat him.

Lomachenko was the greatest amateur boxer of all time. He is special, he is phenom and he is white.
 
Saw all 3 fights on the Mayweather/Pacquiao card and definitely Lomo had the most impressive win. He knocked out a very game and tough opponent.

Lomachenko was fantastic.
 
Alright so I saw enough replays of the Lomachenko fight to make some comments. The guys has the widest assortment of punches that I have seen in any fighter currently boxing. I'm not kidding. He is the reincarnation of Willy Pep. His alias "High Tech" is most appropriate. Mayweather is a superb defensive fighter but his offence is only "very good"; and, sometimes only "good enough". Loma is superb offensively and defensively; better all around fighter. The fakes, the intentional "misses", the-simultaneous-double slip-with-double-step, I mean I could write 1000 words to describe what he's doing but I won't. There are too many spies from the dark side who would love to learn something. Forget it. If you can't figure it out yourself I'm not explaining it. He may never be titled as the pound-for-pound king because the black/latino boxing associations are jealous of whites but he's already there. Good luck to his competitors, I hope they all train hard because good competition makes for exciting champions.

And don't worry there sunshine, I still say Loma beat the shorts off of Salido but was robbed.

He already fought for the featherweight championship in only his second pro fight, a record, and the only reason he didn't win it was because his opponent showed up much heavier and fought as dirty as he pleased, aided and abetted by the so-called referee, Laurence Cole, who got his ref job because his daddy is the Texas state boxing commissioner, and one of the judges gave it to him despite all that.

Boxrec is a very good site, but its not perfect. The rating system is based all on numbers. Wins loses, and wins and loses of past opponents. It dosent take robbery, or corrupt refs into the equation. Mayweather has been the pound for pound #1 on there for 10 years or more.

Obviously Lomo is the most skilled boxer in the world, much less the featherweight division. However he DOES have a loss on his record, no matter how corrupt, so that goes into the equation.

All true, and Ive watched that fight 3 times since then, and STILL Lomo landed more clean punches, and should have won. He had the mexitrashcan out on his feet at the final bell too.
 
Lomachenko looked great against that Puerto Rican. That may have been the highlight of that crap ppv since he was fighting a quality opponent in only his 5th fight. That Leo Santa Cruz already has 31 fights but has fought bums and went the distance with some midget Mexican cabdriver. I'd like to see Loma fight him and Walters too.

Ok, so nobody picked up on the incongruity of boxrec's featherweight ranking.

Answer: Loma is ranked 11th; Russel is ranked 5th; Loma beat Russel; Loma should be ranked at least 5th in Russel's place. Championships change possession when a challenger beats a champion; rankings change when a lower ranked fighter beats a higher ranked fighter -that is the reason and motivation to fight for rankings! Most of the boxing associations have ranked Loma extremely high.

On the HBO broadcast, Roy Jones mentioned that he has Lomachenko as his P4P #1 right now.
 
Vasyl with the KO over a solid B level fighter. From what I saw, easily the No. 1 PFP fighter. That includes better than GGG, Kovalev and Wlad. The only thing Vasyl is missing is thudding KO power. Nevertheless, a truly gifted fighter.

I agree. What I really like about him is often fighters with his skills don't bother with many body shots, as if maybe that's what lesser skilled fighters resort to. Lomo really likes to work that body, and that might be the difference when he fights other elite fighters.

That Mexican (part Japanese) sure was tough. His first time stopped or knocked down.
