Right! And what is the fighter's corner there for, just to be pretty faces like the ring girls?

George Foreman was the only honest announcer in recent times, and I always remember how, after Oquendo lost a robbery decision to Byrd, he said that fighters need to stop standing there and meekly accepting that - and then he said, "Those were the best judges that money can..." And that was it. They issued a statement that he had resigned his announcing position. That was eleven years ago, but boxing just keeps getting worse and worse.

I know. It is rife with corruption. Check out this thread lead from Boxingscene:

"Laurence Cole's actions this past saturday just reaffirms his standing as the worst referee in the business. Ive had a gripe with this scumbag referee ever since the first Pacquiao vs Barerra fight which took place in san antonio texas.

In that fight which was oscar de la hoya's first fight with his first client marco antonio barerra, cole ruled a obvious slip on pacquiao a knock down. later on in the fight pacquiao punches barerra who goes down but rules it a slip, a couple of rounds later barerra goes down in what looks like a slip but scores it a knock down.

In his next high profile blunder, he was the referee for the juan manuel marquez vs jimrex jaca fight. this was the fight in which he told marquez after being cut that he was ahead on the scorecards, he was suppose to be suspended but he still continues to get high profile jobs whenever fights take place in texas.

Now his most recent bang up job comes this past saturday. i should say bang up jobS because he was horrible in the ishe smith danny jacobs fight but lets just stick to the juan diaz vs baby bull fight.

This guys asks the judges was it a punch that caused the first cut on diaz which was correctly pointed out by harold lederman as something u dont do as a referee. Later on in the fight, a second cut on diaz appeared, & in the end of that round you can hear laurence cole audibly ask "was it a elbow that caused that punch?" Then in the beginning of the round he grabs diaz & makes a accidental headbutt ruling.

Heres a little info about Laurence Cole;

His dad is Dickie Cole Sr. who is a former fight judge & now is some high ranking director in the Texas Boxing Commission.

Laurence Cole & family sells insurance to fight promoters in texas in order for them to promote fights.

His company Laurence Cole Insurance Agency;

Talk about conflict of interest......."

The latest news is that Lomachenko will fight Gary Russell JR. on June 21. Russell JR. is 24-0 as a pro, and as an amateur was USA's best amateur boxer for a while, though Russell never medalled at any major tournaments. Russell JR. is an American Negro and is backed by Showtime and Golden Boy promotions. Golden Boy won the purse bid, outbidding Loma's promoter Top Rank by something like only $2500. Because GBP's bid was only just higher than TR's, many people have stated there was likely inside information given to GBP about exactly how much TR bid was. Because Golden Boy has won the bid, they promote the fight meaning they choose network (Showtime), venue (likely Los Angeles), and have great influence on who the judges and referee are. Obviously, this disadvantages Lomachenko and actually it seems like his own promoter, Top Rank has screwed him by giving info to GBP.

The only good thing for Lomo is he stands to make a purse of $650,000 for the fight. But it seems the deck will be stacked against him since GBP has won the purse bid.

Lomachenko is fighting Gary Russell Jr on Showtime this coming Saturday.

Russell is one of Al Haymon's fighters and the California card is promoted by Golden Boy.

Jeez, Jack Reiss is a horrible ref. You can also count on three crooked judges who have likely been handpicked by Golden Boy. It all goes back to Lomachenko losing the purse bid. I don't like to be too negative but Vasyl may need a KO to win. The judges won't give him close rounds. Not to mention, Vasyl could also have used a few tuneup bouts. It's gonna be hard for Vasyl but I'll be rooting for him.

This is a showcase fight for Vasyl. He is fighting on Showtime against a good affeletic fighter. If he impresses with a win, I am sure stardom awaits. The 2 other fights on the card are intriguing. The "Ghost" Guerrero who was last seen getting slapped around by Mayweather is on the come back trail against an Asian I have no clue about. Then there is former titilist Alexander against a rugged Mexican, Soto Karass who knocked out Andre Berto over a year ago.

This should be a showcase fight against a very good prospect. Unlike the rugged/dirty Mexican, Russell Jr should fight a conventional fight and come second in the exchanges to Loma. If he loses this fight Top Rank will have to build up Loma traditionally against the slugs that normal blue chip prospects face. I suspect if that happens he will be released and he will do this in Europe. Let's hope that he shines on Saturday.

What is refreshing is that both fighters are stepping up and fighting each other, rather than avoid each other until there is a demand down the road. Based on what I have seen, Loma, is quicker and has the pedigree. We shall see if he steps up.

Anyone know what time this fight starts? Usually I'm mainly interested in heavies but some light weight fights like this one are interesting.

12th rd, Lomo should be up 5 pts. Great display of ring generalship and precision power punching.

Lomo almost had Russell in the 12th. Great breakout performance. He looked like a miniature Dempsey. Great night for us. Russell is a A-class fighter. Lomo handled him and gave him a beat down at the end of the fight.

One corrupt judge had it a draw(Lisa Giampa)! Luckily the other 2 were not on the take. Great performance by Lomo. Man, the lower weight boxing world could be his with in the 2 years.

He really took that negro to school, gave him not only a history lesson but mathematics and science as well. Great win for Lomachenko! :clap2:

LOMACHENKO IS CHAMPION!!! Wow, spectacular win for Vasyl, and he has just made history as tying world record for becoming a world champion with the fewest fights (3). Lomachenko boxed expertly and outclassed Russell, hurting him numerous times. Lomachenko's defense was masterful and Russell was unable to land anything cleanly all night. I scored the fight 117-111, and I found the judges' cards to be too close but atleast the right man won.
