Doesn't mean a whole lot at this point but at least Ricky Pearsall is off to a positive start:

Here we look at four winners and four losers from OTAs and minicamp.

Winners​

WR Ricky Pearsall​

Eyebrows that were raised when the 49ers spent the 31st overall pick on a wide receiver, but Pearsall has already set about silencing those who questioned that selection.

Indeed, Pearsall has received praise from several teammates, with Deebo Samuel hailing his route-running and Fred Warner speaking highly of how quickly the former Florida Gator has settled into the locker room.

The most important praise, though, has come from quarterback Brock Purdy and head coach Kyle Shanahan. Purdy, impressed with the speed with which Pearsall has absorbed the playbook, has already built a rapport with the surprise first-rounder, with Shanahan describing their connection as “fun to watch”.

A string of standout practice showings in the absence of Brandon Aiyuk, the 49ers’ leading wideout from 2022 and 2023, have served to boost Pearsall’s chances of being a significant contributor in year one. While he will need to carry his positive momentum from OTAs and minicamp into training camp, Pearsall seems well-positioned to hit the ground running as a rookie regardless of his snap count.

This 49ers offense is looking the best since the Patriots Dynasty featured a nearly all-white offense.

Purdy, Kittle, Juice, McCaffrey, Pearsall. Only Half the offensive line (the area coincidentally needing improvement as the weak link).

Here's another story about Schrader, filled with overly dramatic descriptions of his negatives. Well down in the article the 800 pound elephant in the room is identified, but of course it's a black dude who has to say it:

So why didn’t the 49ers — or any of the NFL’s 31 other teams — make Schrader one of the 257 players selected in April’s draft?

Luper, a former skeptic who became a true believer, gets it. Schrader isn’t particularly big (202 pounds) and ran a plodding 40-yard dash (4.61 seconds) before the draft. At the combine, his arm measurement (28-1/8 inches) was the shortest among 29 running backs and raised questions about his catching radius and ability to block blitzing linebackers.

Luper thinks those deficiencies helped obscure elite traits such as lightning-fast feet and X-ray vision. Those qualities explain why a back lacking blazing speed ranked second in FBS with 11 runs of 30-plus yards and was one of three players with 230-plus carries to average at least 5.9 yards an attempt.

Luper, who is black, also has said he believes Schrader’s skin color was a factor. Schrader was the first white running back to lead the SEC in rushing since Alabama’s Johnny Musso in 1971, according to ESPN. He also was just the second SEC rushing leader to go undrafted in the past 33 seasons (the other being Alabama’s Shaud Wiliams, 2003).

“He has a great story,” Luper said. “A phenomenal story. But he has a tremendous skill set.”

I know it is early but I’m predicting, based on the info coming out, the Persall has a big role this year!

The 49ers drafted RB Isaac Guerendo out of Louisville by way of Wisconsin in the fourth round. He reminds me of Kalen Ballage as like Ballage, Guerendo is touted as an almost otherworldly combination of size and speed yet he only rushed for 1,392 total yards in six years of college competition.

Ballage ended up being one of the worst running backs in NFL history, running for 665 yards over four NFL seasons with his rushing average being a pathetic 3.1 yards. What's that saying about deja vu all over again?

If Guerendo does end up being a flop, that will help Cody Schrader's cause. Since Guerendo was drafted and Schrader wasn't, I expect Cody to be on the practice squad to begin this season, perhaps all season, as the injury prone Elijah Mitchell and journeyman type Jordan Mason are still on the roster. As always, Schrader will have to be patient and endure what will almost surely be a racial apprenticeship if he ever gets a chance in the NFL, but a likely bust like Guerendo makes his path easier.

Yeah only in America where a white running back leads the SEC in Rushing Yards only to be ignorred in the NFL Draft. Just like in the business world and in the universities where your skin color gets you so many perks as long your not a white male. Cody Schrader deserves so much better but if he can hang on the future just might be bright for this young man! Hope he can learn from Christian McCaffrey on and tricks of the trade to help his cause!

Guerendo put up supbar stats to Schrader and was also drafted. I do think Shanahan is probably the only coach that might give Schrader carries. I am certainly rooting for him, he was absolutely dominant in college last year and fits the 49ers system well.

49ers Place Ricky Pearsall on Non-Football Injury List​

49ers rookies reported to training camp on Tuesday and one of the most notable ones landed on the non-football injury list.

The NFL’s daily transaction reports shows that first-round pick Ricky Pearsall has landed on the list. The wideout will be eligible to be activated at any point during camp and will not be permitted to practice until that move is made, but he still counts against the 90-man roster.

Players land on the non-football injury list for issues that occurred away from the team. If a player is dealing with an injury suffered in practice, they go on the physically unable to perform list.

Pearsall had 98 catches for 1,626 yards and nine touchowns at Florida over the last two seasons.

WR Brandon Aiyuk requests trade from 49ers, sources say:

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- After an offseason of contract negotiations that have yet to yield a lucrative extension, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has officially requested a trade, according to league sources.

Sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Tuesday that other teams that have reached out to the 49ers have been told the team has no intention of trading him.

Aiyuk's request comes a week before veterans are slated to report to Niners training camp and about three weeks after Aiyuk and the Niners met in Santa Clara to discuss the situation. NFL Network first reported the trade request.
With one year remaining on his rookie contract, Aiyuk has been seeking a big-money extension in line with those of other wideouts who have earned deals this offseason, such as the Philadelphia Eagles' A.J. Brown, Detroit Lions' Amon-Ra St. Brown, Eagles' DeVonta Smith and Miami Dolphins' Jaylen Waddle.

Aiyuk, 26, is set to make $14.124 million in 2024, the fifth and final year of his rookie contract.

At various points this offseason, Aiyuk has tried to apply pressure to the Niners to get a deal done sooner than their usual late-summer timeline. He has used social media to voice his displeasure and even posted a video to TikTok of himself telling former Arizona State teammate and current Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels on FaceTime that the Niners "don't want me back."

Cody Schrader drafted in the second round by a UFL team. This gives him a likely opportunity to start but I hope he sticks it out with San Fran for a year or two as that's the best NFL roster he can be on and he has the possibility of being McCaffrey's backup (more likely next year than this season) and even his successor down the road.

Former SMU and Wisconsin QB Tanner Mordecai was also drafted by UFL. 6th overall to DC. Like you said, id prefer both stick it out in San Fran. Mordecai has to battle journeymen Josh Dobbs and Brandon Allen for a roster spot behind Purdy.

Given the fact the 49ers jettisoned bust qb Trey Lance, a player they wasted 3 first round picks on for Purdy who was the last pick in the draft I think if Schrader shows he is better than every RB outside of CMC he certainly has a good shot at making the team.

Schrader had about 800 extra rushing and receiving yards than guerendo. And even tho guerendo ran a 4.33 they both ran a 1.55 ten yard split. Schrader is the better rb, hopefully he gets his shot to prove it

With continued cases like this - and as more and more people wake up to the obvious racial discrimination against whites everywhere - I’m cautiously optimistic the caste system is cracking.

Reports from today, indicate that Issac Guerendo hurt his hamstring.
No word on the extent of the injury.
But if he's out for any length of time, that helps Cody Schrader's chances of making the team.
