This might be great news guy. He signed a five year contract and if anyone can turn around the Redskins, it might be Mike. He is white friendly and knows how to coach the game of football.

Imagine if they draft Toby Gerhart? It would be like the 2nd coming of John Riggins. They will have a high enough draft pick as well since they only won a handful of games this season. Maybe he might make a trade for Hillis and Scheffler. Anything is possible. Let's hope for the best.

WL, I wouldn't call him white friendly...He is white friendly at WR and RB for today's NFL. When did he give a white RB any significant carries before Hillis last year? It was only due to injuries. And has he ever played a white CB, even as a nickle guy during a season? I hear you on white friendly if you're talking relative..but hey, compared to Mao Zedong- Obama is conservative lol. Or compared to Hitler...Hugo Chavez is a nice guy, or compared to Osama Bin Ladin- Bill Ahers is a peace maker or compared to Nancy Pelosi- Pinocchio is an honest Joe or lol. Hope you guys like my humor on "relative" comparisons.
 
Guys looks like one of 2010 predictions is inching closer to reality regarding Shanny 1st becoming Head Coach and hopefully in a couple of months selecting Toby Gerhart in the 1st round to be a feature back.

And a big maybe, Shanny also trades for Hillis. Just think of Toby and Peyton in the same backfield running over, around and past affelets. I know its a stretch but maybe lighting will strike twice.
 
I would urge caution about the prospect of Shanahan radically changing the Blackskins into something worth cheering for. He was forced into starting Peyton Hillis after his blackletes fell by the wayside to injuries. He's no friend of White athletes, and we'd do ourselves a big favor to remember that. Even relative Whiteness is horrendous in the Caste System NFL.
 
Remember, Shanahan had all black defenses in Denver, and he won't hesitate to keep the Redskins there. Reed Doughty will probably keep his job next year, though. Mike started John Lynch for a couple of years. Everyone here is hoping Shanahan saw what Peyton can do when he had to play him last year, so Mike will want Peyton to be the RB in his offense. Shanahan did have some pretty white O-Lines, though.

Lynch had to start because he was one of the top safeties in the league for years.

also ... although many fans remember McCaffrey's dominant years in Denver,during his tenureShanahan jerked around and screwed over numerous White receivers.

in my opinion, while he may use Hillis (which would be great) i don't think he's the savior many of you are hoping for.
 
I agree with Col. Reb and JC.Shanahan was middle of the pack when it came to his Denver teams, which were very similar to the Giants under Tom Coughlin -- White QB, predominantly White o-line, usually coal black everywhere else. He did have a short-lived fascination with White receivers, but they were all screwed over (Travis McGriff, Patrick Jeffers, Keith Poole and others) except for Ed McCaffrey; andhe also hadthe first entirely black defense in NFL history -- all black starters and backups. Don't sentimentalize the fact that hewas basically forced touse Peyton Hillis after half a dozen black running backs went down and expect a White friendly team, especially one in the nation's capitol and which is owned by Daniel Snyder. As a new coach if anything he'll need to make the team blacker. I've seen it numerous times here in Detroit. First order of business---purge the white guys, show the fans that you are interested in getting some affaletes.
 
Don, Shanahan was also the super-brain who barely permitted the young, break-neck speedster, Kevin Kasper, to see the field back in 2001-2002. Shanahan actually drafted him in the 6th round. Starting Peyton Hillis was basically a last resort.

How could the Redskins possibly get any more black players? Aside from a kicker, punter, long snapper, Cooley, Doughty, Rabauch, and two backup QBs...there is nobody left to cut. They can only get whiter, IMO.
 
For those who would like to see Hillis or Gerhart in Washington:

NFL Network's Steve Wyche said Wednesday that he's "hearing" Clinton Portis' days in Washington could be numbered following the hiring of head coach Mike Shanahan. Fellow reporter Mike Lombardi agreed with the notion. Shanahan hinted strongly Wednesday that he values the offseason program, especially for running backs. Portis, long averse to OTA participation, might be given a do-or-die mandate entering the spring. If so, it would be in his best interest to attend and practice. If he's cut, no other team would pay the declining back a $7+ million salary, which the Skins are currently slated to do in 2010.
 
I know this might not mean much but Kyle Shanahan will be offenisive coordinator with the Redskins. He is coming from a team with two white wr's and 3 white tight ends.

on ESPN did bring up an intriguing point. He speculated Shanahan would open up the competition at the QB position and ultimately Colt Brennan would win out. Come to think of it, Colt's style of play is very suited to Shanahan‘s passing attack. If nothing else, a Brennan to Cooley connection on a regular basis would make things a bit more palatable.
 
Brennan is just the all time college passer, so he may have a chance to compete for the job against the great Campbell.

Looks like the onerous Jim Haslet is going to be Shanahan's defensive coordinator. Not a good sign for those hoping to see more White players next season.
 
First the Haslet hire, and now this. Looks like Shanahan hasn't forgotten how things work in the NFL, though it's still very early in regard to how the QB situation will play out in '10. From Rotoworld:

Potential suitors? they are actually worried about another team picking Campbell up? Why would ANY team want him? How could fans not complain about this guy starting for so long with little progress? He got his completion ratio up, tds and his ypa but he threw 15 picks. The guy is a game manager at best and never going to lead the team anywhere. I dont see why Shanahan wouldn't let Colt compete for the job. Its been 5 years, the guy has pretty much reached his ceiling. Todd Collins came in and played better than Campbell in 07, the team became instantly better, and he won 4 straight games taking the Redskins to the playoffs. If a career backup can come into the same offense and do that, imagine what Colt could do if given a real chance.Edited by: dwid
 
I'm sure tribesman Snyder told Shanahan to leave "Gayson Scambell" as the #1 QB for now. If Scambell continues to tank next season, the fans outrage may (hopefully) force Snyder to oust the overhyped afrolete for a quality QB.
 
The DWF fans and jock sniffers in the D.C. area absolutely love Campbell, whom they all refer to on radio talk shows as "Jason." He has been given longer to prove himself than any young white QB in recent memory. Not only has he had four full years as the starter, he has never faced even token competition for the job. Once he was anointed the starter, it was virtually verboten for any fan or "journalist" to suggest an alternative, no matter how poorly Campbell played.

My son actually heard one of the most idiotic local jock sniffers complain on the radio today that "we don't want a Brady Quinn," as he asserted the standard media line that "Jason" must remain the starter. Quinn has been given what- 10 games as a starter (with fierce competition the entire time), while Campbell has been given FOUR years as the unquestioned starter. Compare Campbell's long tenure to the limited (and always contested) opportunities accorded Alex Smith, J.P. Losman, Trent Edwards, Matt Leinart, Kyle Boller, Kellen Clemens and many others. Needless to say, I'm quite certain that no fans are calling into radio talk shows anywhere and demanding more chances for any of those white QBs.
