I guess this years freak white athlete is Barwin. I am quite surprised few whites put up very elite numbers this year. Cushing was expected to run much faster but he will still be a very high pick. I guess there were no Tim Shaw's this year.

I think that's partly because so few whites were invited this year. No white DBs, only Means among receivers (whoI think is part-black), hardly any white DLs, less white o-linemen than usual. Watching the NFL Network's coverage of the Combine was often like watching a spring workout sessionby Grambling.

Anybody has info on how Roehl and Zwiggi fared at their respective pro day?

ask, and you shall receive, at least about North Dakota's players.

here's the link. and for those who don't want to register... i've not been able to find Zwinggi's results yet.

Tyler Roehl took the 225 pounds of weights and proceeded to lift them like they were plastic. He did it 30 times, which in the North Dakota State football circles is an area usually reserved for offensive linemen.

It was just one impressive exercise in NDSU's annual pro day, an orchestrated workout of running and lifting in front of NFL scouts.

"You give it your best and hope at least one person likes you and gives you a shot," Roehl said.

The workout attracted more scouts than usual - 13 teams were represented at the Bison Sports Arena on Tuesday morning. Roehl was joined by former Bison teammates Nate Agbetola, Jerimiah Wurzbacher, John Richardson, Nick Schommer, Ramon Humber, Joe Lardinois, Kole Heckendorf, Mike Maresh and Tyler Jangula.

By some accounts, Roehl, Heckendorf and Schommer may have helped their stock. Heckendorf, for instance, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.34 seconds.

"I couldn't have had a better day today," said Heckendorf, a receiver.

In addition to his running, Heckendorf did not drop a pass in the skills portion of the workout.

Roehl was timed at 4.44 in the 40 by one scout, although Roehl said most scouts probably had him around 4.5. A tailback the last two years at NDSU, he's being projected as a fullback in the NFL.

Roehl, Humber, Wurzbacher and Heckendorf have been working with personal trainer Bill Welle at Velocity Sports Performance in Champlin Park, Minn., since January.

"I enjoyed every minute of it," Roehl said.

NDSU's Pro Day has helped produce some NFL players the last two years. Safety Craig Dahl made the league as a rookie in 2007 and linebacker Joe Mays was drafted last year by the Philadelphia Eagles.

"We're getting guys in the NFL, they're hearing our name out there," Heckendorf said. "There's a lot of interest."

that is some awesome news!
smiley32.gif
as for Zwinggi, keep this in mind. Zwinggi set school records for longest run (99 yards) and pass reception from scrimmage (91 yards). He also scored 20 touchdowns in his career and saw time covering kickoffs.

and just as a reminder, these guys were said to not be good enough to even get a single D-I scholarship offer.

"weird" how that works, isn't it?

I will root for Andrew Means because I don't think he is a quarter black. Until you show me proof these guessing games are getting old as in Shaun Cody the 1st name that comes to mind. Andrew Means is a white athlete. I have met children who are a quarter black and their whiter than me and I'm 100% white. I am asking to stop nit picking. Unless you know for sure otherwise then I'll assume he is white until proven otherwise. I think we need to root for this player he has a chance to make it in the pro's isn't that what this web site really is about.

according to this article, Northern Illinois wide receiver Matt Simon ran a 4.48 40 at his Pro Day.

Simon is a talented wideout, but his career numbers have suffered due to injury.

He had good numbers in 2007, but NIU had a freshmen QB in 2008 and was much more conservative on offense. I've seen Simon in person. Honestly did not "wow" me, but I think he can play in the NFL.

Another empirical study of NFL combine performances and actual NFL performance: "Determining Draft Order and NFL Success at the Linebacker Position" by Zach Pfantz. A Masters Thesis for Coe College done in 2007.

". . . an empirical analysis of on field college success compared to an athlete's physical attributes (NFL combine)in determining NFL draft order and NFL on field success at the linebacker position. The entire draft class of linebackers from the 2004 NFL draft was selected as the study group."

". . . 4 players experienced both on field college success and pre draft testing success. These players were four of the highest rated plyers in the study not surprisingly. Without considering these 4 players who had success in both groups that leaves 8 players that had on field college success leading to NFL success and only 2 players that had pre draft testing success leading to NFL success. Therefore the study shows that on fkeld college success is a better predictor and has a much stronger correlation to determining NFL success than pre draft testing numbers."

So, why so much fuss about the Combine? Agreeing to a post in response to the previous post about empirical examination of the NFL combine, it's greatest value seems to be to provide objective evidence that white athletes are not inferior to black athletes.

Anybody who says black athletes are more athletic is probably a.)an american b.) someone who only follows NFL players c.) just about any race c.) someone who is not familiar with track and field or world records and d.) a complete moron.

He looks Southern Euro to me. His hair is straight as far I can tell. I guess you would have to look at photos of parents to truly tell. But generally mixed race guys that is always mentioned in his upbringing.

I found this article. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/49ers- don-t-want-Stafford-because-he-won-t-open-?urn=nfl,151562
It seems the 49ers won't draft Stafford because he will not talk to a shrink about his parents divorce.Ohh my god what a crime. What a privilege to be white. It sure helps your draft status. Maybe they should draft another Lawrence Phillips.

Yeah, I saw that, what a dumb excuse not to draft him. Who in God's name would want to talk bout their parents divorce? Isn't that invasion of privacy? I applaud Stafford for that, it's his right to keep it private. The 49ers and that shrink reporter can kiss his ass for such a stupid reason not to draft him.

great, now they will forever be tarnished, unlike shawn merrimam.
various sources, including one nfl team, i dont consider that legit. Its only one blog post with no outside reputable sources. Yet they are getting alot of crap and people are nailing them to a cross.

Bleacher report (also bloggers) also reported it, saying ap had reported it to, with no link provided. AP didnt report it, and bleachers article has been taken down by the site. Yet more than half of the fans that read it will continue to believe that matthews and cushing are juicers.

"Coach Carroll has come to set the record straight.

Rumors have been circulating around the Internet today that USC linebackers Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews tested positive for steroids at the NFL Combine in February. Thing is, the report is fallacious, and Carroll is fighting back with the truth.

"These rumors are absolutely false," Carroll said this afternoon. "If they were found positive, Clay and Cush would have been notified three weeks ago, which they weren't, and all of the NFL teams would have been notified too, which they weren't."

Carroll said he spoke with the NFL testing service this morning and verified that both Cushing and Matthews are clean.

'They're both men of outstanding character and they never tested positive for anything here," Carroll said. "This is an major example of irresponsible reporting, and the site that published this report should be ashamed of themselves.'"

I think its a pathetic attempt by some people who hate White athletes that cant stand the fact that there are multiple White defenders coming out in the first few rounds. Clay Matthews, Brian Cushing, Connor Barwin DE/TE/OLB(whose draft stock will possibly rise to a first round) and Paul Kruger DE who will probably be a 2nd rounder. There are more but i cant think off the top of my head and I think they are going in later rounds. When you think about it, its not that many White athletes, but compared to years past, thats more White defenders than usual, i think, not sure, but dont remember this many White defensive players slotted to go early, there was Chris Long and then Dan Connor who fell.

Yeah, it is just some white hating reporters out there that can't stand having good white LBs and DEs out on the field.

You know they are false when caste coach Pete Carroll denounced the rumors as false. How many times have you seen Carroll standing up for white two white players?

Probably only a strategy from a team drafting high to make both of them fall to the second round, it's a shame really, now Cushing will NEVER be able to shed that steroid label.

yes, either that or right tackle, i have a draft guide i bought, waste of money
same garbage written about every player

I will write some of the excerpts of what they wrote. Writing all of the negatives and "the way we see it will take too long, so i will try to some it up.

rated tackles top 20

5. ebon britton 6'6 310: "not a great foot athlete, average lateral quickness. a bit mechanical. Lumbers in space. Not explosive."
"The way we see it: Britton has a skillset better suited for the right side in the pros and may even wind up inside. Does not look pretty but usually gets the job done and possesses day-one starter potential."

So despite having natural strength and being a "solid technicician, very durable and has not missed time to injury, plays hard and competes" "smart and plays with awareness and discipline" he is not rated higher than 4 other tackles and will be moved to the inside, or right side.

8. Troy Kropog Tulane 6'5 316 negatives : "average hip snap -- does not generate much movement" "too lean"
positives: ositives are "good athlete with natural movement skills" "plays smart" "very good work ethic, football is important to him." "good lateral agility" "good blitz recognition"

11. T.J. Lang Eastern Michigan 6'4 305 negatives : "shows some
tightness in his movement
The way we see it : a 3 year starter at LT could wind up being best playing inside."
positives "tough competitor, very good effort and stamina" "good intensity and football temperament." "Physical, has enough agility to handle the edge"

12. Garrett Reynolds 6'7 7/8th 310 negatives :
"Tight-hipped, a bit heavy footed and flat assed"
positives "plays with awareness and adjusts to stunds and blitzes. Flashes some nastiness and finishes blocks." "solid technician. "tough, plays hard with good energy. Good energy and active hands"

"The way we see it: overacheiver will need help to survive on the right side"

19. Alex Boone 6'7 330 Ohio St. negatives:
is on the ground too much. average lateral quickness. exposed by edge speed. lacks discipline. very questionable character- has maturity issues and easily could be distracted by the trappings that come with the NFL. Could struggle to stick on a roster
positives "looks the part with great size, long arms and good growth potential. Good workout numbers. 4 year starter in a big time program"

Wow, a White guy that "looks the part" he has the long arms and is better than the guys going 18 spots ahead of him, it must be his average lateral quickness, oh wait, Michael Oher was said to have that. It must be his maturity issues, wait Andre Smith had that and so did Phil Loadholt. I wonder what else could it be?

Guards (some who have played tackle)

1. Andy Levitre 6'2 3/8th 306 Oregon st, negatives: "lacks ideal arm length to handle the edges and does not play with good extension.
The way we see it: converted left tackle who lackes the size and arm length desired on the outside and projects to the left guard spot."
positives "very smart and has great feel for game. Strong functional athlete. takes good angles. works his hips and maintains positioning. Good base and balance to sustain and finish blocks"
so he has the hip snap but his arm length is hindering him even though it says "plays with very active hands and steers and controls defenders"

3. Kraig Urbik 6'5 323 Wisconsin negatives: "not a great athlete and struggles to handle counters and movement once he turns his shoulders."
positives "can snap his hips and drive defenders off the ball. Flashes explosive power to jolt defenders. Has all the intangibles"
so hes got the "hip snap" and the "explosiveness. but he will still project either the 3rd or 4th round as a guard

9. Andy Kemp 6'5 318 Wisconsin negatives: marginal contact balance, can do a better job sinking his hips.
The way we see it: "A thick, slow-footed mauler with some upside to develop. Shows he can get the job done but doesnt look pretty doing it."
positives: " has good overall size and frame. can get positioning and wall off blockers. Can anchor in pass protection and hold his ground when he bends his knees"

so i guess he projects in the 6th or 7th round as guard because he doesnt look pretty when gets the job done and doesnt have that "hip snap"

11. Ryan Stanchek 6'3 1/8th 305 West Virginia negatives : "does not sink his hips with ease or play with natural bend."
The way we see it: "A good tough, football player who lined up at left tackle in college but projects inside in the pros. Not overly athletic or powerful. Lacks agility to handle edge speed."
positives : "plays with enough agility to pull and trap. A smart player with great awareness and an understanding of blocking angles"
so he projects as a 7th rounder as a backup.

So all of these guys get the job done but "dont look pretty doing it" and they all are not athletic despite dominating in college, have average lateral quickness and some form of problems with "hip snap"

now here are some of the top rated black left tackles

1. Eugene Monroe Virginia 6'5 310 negatives: "uses too much finesse and is not overpowering as a run blocker. Too jumpy anticipating the snap and will open his shoulders and leave the inside susceptible to counter moves. Can punch with more authority and do a better job uncoiling his hands. Not elected a team captain and is not a vocal leader. Durability and mental toughness to play through pain will require further evalauation. but he has 'prototypical size with long arms and looks every bit the part.'"

The number 1 rated left tackle isnt tough physically or mentally! Yes this is the guy i want protecting my quarterbacks left side!

2. Jason Smith Baylor 6'4 305 negatives : "technique is spotty after and will need refining. Could play with more consistent pad level and leverage."
"loaded with upside, excellent athlete"

3. Andre Smith Alabama 6'3 340 negatives : "Weight has fluctuated too often and he tends to balloon in the offseason. Not a foot technician and tends to shuffle and slide instead of kicksliding. Can be late off the ball and tends to get lackadaisical and sloppy with technique. Not a polished protector. Wears down late in games. Questionable makeup to handle distractions that come with the NFL. Questionable character, suspended for sugar bowl against Utah for dealing with an agent."
but they say he has "excellent overall mass with very good hip quickness and agility"

So Andre Smith has questionable character, sloppy, not polished and not disciplined, yet his going slotted at 3 compared to Alex Boone who they said lacked maturity issues and fail to say why they think that he will struggle mentally and is ranked 19.

4. Michael Oher Ole Miss 6'5 305: negatives "Average lateral quickness to slide, shuffle and mirror. Inconsistent hand placement and punch. Technique will need refinement. Looks distinterested at times and can be late to recognize the blitz. Has been coddled throughout college and his desire and passion for the game are iffy. Questionable football intelligence."
but they say "has the physical talent to line up at left tackle"

wait we have a black tackle with average lateral quickness but also doesnt have desire to play the game, but i guess he deserves to be rated higher just because. What a bunch of crap. He must also be rated high because he "looks the part"

7. William Beatty Connecticut negatives 6'6 291 pounds : "plays too soft. Does not have passion for the game. "needs to be challenged". lacks mental toughness. Does not play with power or nastiness. Does not have a mean bone in his body. Not competitive, plays like a cake eating chardonay drinker who does not want to get his finger nails dirty" (thats their analysis not mine)
but they say "he looks the part with a big long armed frame and agility" "extremely athletic"

Yet with all of these negatives hes ranked higher than Troy Kropog whose positives are "good athlete with natural movement skills" "plays smart" "very good work ethic, football is important to him." "good lateral agility" "good blitz recognition"

9. Jamon Merdith South Carolina 6'4 289 pounds "not tough, lacks passion for the game and is motivated for the wrong reasons. Locker-room lawyer" "does not like to condition his body. Too many mental lapses show up in his game. Needs to play with more awareness and do a better job sustaining blocks. Cake-eater, users too much finesse and does not like to get dirty. Does not play with explosion or use his hands with authority, cannot play through pain, lacks mental toughness, was benched as a senior."
but "has good athletic ability

10. Phil Loadholt Oklahoma 6'8 343 pounds, negatives "does not have foot quickness or agility to consitently handle edge speed, struggles to strike a moving target. Not nasty and does not finish blocks the way scouts like. Consistently late into blocks and does not power off the ball or move defenders the way hes expected." "Character needs to be examined with two alcohol related arrests."
but he has "excellent size with long arms"

I cant believe people are getting paid to write this crap. Its just a bunch of garbage

All of these soft guys projected to go in the first or second rounds because they "look the part" and have "upside" despite most of them having no desire to play footballEdited by: dwid

Jacksonville is reportedly thinking seriously about drafting Mark Sanchez with the 8th pick of the first round, one year after signing David Garrard to a 6 year $60 million contract, with $18 million of it guaranteed. Washington was a serious bidder in the recent Jay Cutler trade talks, as the Redskins don't appear to have much faith in Jason Campbell.

Garrard and Campbell are the only two black QBs after McNabb who can qualify as even mediocre and neither may be starting as early as the 2010 season. We know black QBs will continue to get lots of hype and still get picked ridiculously early in NFL Drafts, but the Great Black Quarterback Experiment continues to flop badly. The failure of black QBs (combined with the rise of a number of excellent young white QBs) remains the Caste System's second most visible black eye, after the takeover of boxing from the middle weights on up by whites.

Its interesting that Washington would want to go after another talented white quarterback when they have Colt Brennan on the sidelines. He is sure to be better than Campbell.
