good times for Collie and Means, however Swift is a negative surprise, if that's official. Hartline should be slightly faster seeing what he does on the field, but it's of small consequence.

I knew there was a reason for inviting those particular White recievers but not Eric Peterman. Peterman would have been a White that would have ran in the 4.4's and dominated some of the other drills. I am glad Means did well. I guess you can't have more than one White run in the 4.4's. 4.5 is good but its not good enough if you are White. I am pretty sure most receivers in the NFL run around 4.5 but that will be considered slower than average for a White guy.

edit: are you sure Andrew Means is White?Edited by: dwid

The speed this year is obscene. The NFL rookie class is gonna have some burners this season is the unofficial times hold up.

half of those guys weren't even good receivers, and i guess if a black athlete comes from a small school it doesnt hinder his stock at all. I think they invited quite a few guys they knew would be tracks stars to make it seem like this is a class full of burners and i doubt the sub 4.3 times hold up.

nah, they only showed the top10, who's also available on NFL.com, and none are on it.

btw wtf is this J.Williams guy from oregon doing there? he dropped everything in sight since the start of the drills, Mayock told that it was the same during his career, and ran about a 4.7.. and there wasn't a spot available at the combine for Peterman or Brodell??

He had 2,600 receiving yards over his career. They probably like his size too.

Yeah, and they are going to like his separation skills too, ever heard of Mike Williams, Reggie Williams, Dewayne Jarrett? they had pretty good college careers too... when will NFL scouts learn?

Eric Peterman definetly got the shaft. He shouldve have gotten an invite, there are not 45 receivers better than him, that is ridiculous.

Also, I find it very disrespectufl the way they are airing this. When Nate Swift went to do the pass drills, right after he started they took the cameras off of him and focused in on Brian Robiskie, just FREAKING STANDING THERE. Who gives a crap about that? You sit there and ooh and ahh at these other guys that suck but take the camera off on someone that is good?Edited by: dwid

Peterman looked so fast in Dwid's video, he "plays" even faster than Swift and probably Collie, but isn't as large framed or strong. Peterman also had a lackluster offense to deal with which cut into his stats. I think he'd be sub 4.5 if he were at the Combine.

Means ran an official 4.44 I believe, but isn't listed on the official times by NFL.com stopping with 4.44 black WR Kenny McKinley. Same thing with James Casey; ran a 4.77 I think, but isn't listed at the bottom of the TE list. Interesting where they stop the selected lists isn't it?

Brian Hartline's 4.52 is just fine. That is barely slower than what your average "starter" runs. Hartline loses very little in in and out of his breaks and has great 10-15 yard burst. Collie is similar that way also, both these guys play faster than their times and can separate. Collie basically ran what I had stated I thought he'd run and both these guys will play slot or Flanker anyway, not Split-End; so Hartline would be faster than average for those positions. This is a blazing year btw.

Swift is another Malcolm Kelly. In fact he is probably a little faster, not saying he should be drafted as high as Kelly considering the strength of this draft class, but he's very close in talent to Kelly.

Kelly was pumped big time by racist ludicrous sites like Footballsfuture as a top 3 WR overall over the likes of Jordy Nelson, despite a 4.67 at his "second" Pro-day after whining about a slow track at his first event where he ran a 4.72. Kelly would be around 4.67-4.75 at the Combine. Blackpowerfuture.com didn't even list Jordy Nelson in their top 10 rankings even in their on the cusp; they're the most caste site on the net. This is the sign of the times Swift will be lucky to get drafted.

He had one good year in 06 and started to decline with more drops as time went on. last year only 473 yards, i doubt he will have any resurgence in production once he gets to the NFL

Playing armchair scout and gm3 or 4 years AFTERthe fact is extremely easy. BEFORE the fact, no one is 100% certain of how someone will perform until the step on the field, and play for a few years.

The methodology of determining how a player will applyhis talent on the next level is morean art than a science.

Even if they would like to convert him as a TE, who wants a converted WR who won't be able to block in-line and has stone hands? he got no buisness being there.

Obvouisly you got to project what you're going to get from a player. And I guess you do that by comparing history of the player, his current skills-set with player you already know. What makes you think that this guy will ever be a regular player in the NFL?

How do you know he can't block in-line? I'm not defending this guy or anything (frankly, I've never even heard of him), but to say a 2,600 yard receiving guy in the PAC10 shouldn't even be at the combine is kinda silly.

I never said the guy was gonna be a regular player. No one did. This is the combine, not the draft. He might not even getdrafted.I think you guys might be getting a little ahead of yourselves with this guy. He's simply being evaluated just like everyone else in attendance. It's not that serious.
