Earlier in the season, I wrote that after Toby Gerhart, Jordy Nelson was the most important white athlete to our cause in 2014. After two weeks, this former walk-on (go figure) at Kansas State is already leading the NFL in receiving by a large margin. The closest a white WR has come to leading the league in receiving yards was Wes Welker in 2011-2012, however, Calvin Johnson eclipsed him in the final game. This son of a farmer in rural Kansas is our best chance…

I believe that Johnson is the only WR on the planet who is better than Nelson. That said, Jordy seems to have better straight-line speed after catching the ball, whereas Johnson frequently gets caught from behind on long receptions.

The aspect of Jordy’s game that separates him from almost every other white WR of the past is that he doesn’t seem to take many big hits. Let’s hope for a record-breaking, injury-free campaign!

MrPoon and fromhungary (a big welcome to CF by the way), I was going to post the same screen shot but you guys beat me to it. It really is great to see! Maybe I was being too cynical about the season so far. Whites are kicking butt and blacks are getting injured or suspended at high rates. Let's hope Philly dominates tonight.

Great start of the year for Jordy Nelson. He now has 30 targets in 2 games = 15 targets per game. Prior to this year, he had career 445 targets in his first 89 games = 5 targets per game. Even the 3 years previous to this, while he was already a known pro bowl receiver, he only had 295 targets in 44 games = 6.7 targets per game. At 29 years old, he is finally getting his targets, and he should have a monster year.

It's to early for me to start worrying about Gerhart. The jags oline needs to sync up and mesh as a unit. They gave up a ton of sacks. I think they also need to hand the reins over to bortles. Defenses don't seem to respect henne so they seem to be stacking the line and daring henne to beat them with his arm.

Hillis not having a single touch through 2 games is a little more maddening. He established himself as a reliable receiver and safety blanket for Eli. The giants other running backs are nothing special.

Woodhead was utilized and the chargers beat the coal black Seahawks yesterday which is an early season caste victory IMO.

I can't get enough of conte's Int. What a great play. I hope his injury isn't serious.

With only his 6th reception of the year, TE Jason Witten (885 rec.), moves past Keenan McCardell for 16th on the all time receiving list. Next up, Torry Holt, 920. Would like to see Witten get into the top 10 before his career is over, but it will be a slow process if Dallas stops utilizing his talent!

I hate that the likes of Ryan Spadola was cut as well as several other great white WR's. We need more young white WR's to fill the shoes of Nelson, Decker, Hartline, etc. as they are fast approaching their 30's!

I have been focusing a lot my attention on MLB and the PGA. Who are some of the under 25 white WR's currently on NFL teams. I know about Dallas' Cole Beasley. Who else?

Why isn't Nelson getting the respect he deserves for his production? Sure, he's not as big as Vincent Jackson or Marshall. Sure, he's not as fast as Julio Jones or Antonio Brown. Comparable players based on height and speed are Bryant, Alshon Jeffery and Josh Gordon. They all made the 2013 Pro Bowl.

Jordy isn’t as fast as Antonio Brown? Nelson ran a 4.51-second 40 and Brown ran a 4.47-second 40. 4/100 of second difference.

And he continues to administer backhanded compliments/digs whilst comparing Jordy to Jerry Rice...

In Jerry Rice, Willie Totten—Rice's quarterback at Mississippi Valley State—said that Rice "wasn't that fast, but he worked real hard. If you were the fastest guy on the team, he wanted to race you. He lost a lot of races, but he ran the best routes and was the hardest worker on the team."

That's Nelson. He's not flashy, but he's consistently good. That should be respected.

Ahh, I see! Jordy “isn’t the fastest guy on the team” and he’s “not flashy,” but he makes up for it by being the best route-runner and the hardest worker on the team. He is a white WR, so that is the only logical explanation for his endless humiliation of black athletes. For God's sake, how many top cornerbacks/safeties does this guy have to burn for 80+ yard scores before he’s considered a top NFL deep threat?

I wouldn't worry about Gerhart's starting job being in jeopardy yet. Jacksonville's offense has been horrible in all phases. Teams are stacking the box to stop the run, and Toby has been playing on a sore ankle, which hopefully will continue to get better. Even Weenieworld is still writing positively about Gerhart.

Was just reading the sports section, which, like the rest of all sections of all large newspapers in the U.S., is filled with articles by Associated Press, the monopoly "news service" that is very important in steering the party line on every issue of the day.

The headline of the AP article on the Chargers-Seahawks game (newspapers have discretion to title AP articles as they wish) is "Chargers' Open Gates Takes Down Seahawks." It's filled with hosannas to Antonio Gates, who had three TD receptions with his third being a particularly outstanding catch. Philip Rivers' role in the big upset is minimized by comparison, even though Rivers played masterfully the entire game.

So to be consistent, one would think that the Packers-Jets game would similarly focus on Jordy Nelson's performance. Well, no. "Rodgers Rallies Packers vs. Jets" is the headline, with Nelson's 80 yard TD being mentioned early along with the obligatory quote about how Jordy "gets overlooked." Still overlooked in spite of his magnificent talent and production.

Nelson isn't mentioned again until the end of the article, where we read, "Rodgers finished 25 of 42 with 346 yards, Nelson had nine catches and Randall Cobb finished with five catches for 39 yards. Cobb caught two short scoring strikes. . ."

Nelson's 200 plus yards receiving weren't deemed worthy of mention by AP anywhere in the article. Such "subtle" (not subtle at all to those who are awake) steering of perceptions and attitudes is ingrained in virtually all newspaper articles, TV "news," commercials, mass entertainment, etc.

The Cleveland Browns’ win with their White o-line over New Orleans was delightful. At one point prissy Sean Payton was screaming at defensive coordinator, Rob Ryan. Paul Kruger made a huge play when he hit Drew Brees causing his pass to sail and be intercepted and then return for a TD.

Through two games, he's rushed 25 times 50 yards (2.0 YPC) with no touchdowns. The good news is that Gerhart remains the clear-cut three-down back and gets to face the Colts at home next week. There's some buy-low appeal here as we anticipate Blake Bortles getting into the lineup.

My personal opinion is that despite the play of the Oline and a lack of passing game, 1.1 yards/carry is simply unacceptable. Great RBs find ways to make things happen, and while we cannot expect Gerhart to average 5.0 ypc, he needs to break a run here and there, which may help the passing attack, and vice-versa.

i agree on both counts, a completely unexpected blurb from rotoworld and Toby somehow needs to find a way. it's not going to get much easier for him, realistically. so he needs to help himself.

on RG3, reading NFL.com comments today under the article that his ankle injury is not that serious, so it's positive for Redskins most, and I'd say 80% said it is positive, for their opponents.. .looks like most everyone is on board of Cousins train!

well in order for Gerhart to bust out a run he kind of has to get more than 7 carries. He got more in the first week but hurt his ankle and probably shouldnt have came back in the game, but then there is the catch 22 for White players, do they play hurt and risk injuring it further and or playing poorly ? or risk losing their job to some afflete? because weve seen Whites lose their starting job to injury, and a White rb wouldnt be any different, probably a bigger chance. Denard Robinson might have 1 fluke play and thats all she wrote (although it might be hard given the situation), so hopefully Gerhart is the one to break off a big run soon, although he is known more for breaking off a ton of 10 to 20 yarders he has had some big runs in the NFL. I remember Leonard having a low ypc for the Rams with Bulger out and FOUR starting olinemen out, Steven Jackson came in and averaged a similar ypc for that situation and never started again as a halfback, always a "passing back" that blocked and caught a few checkdowns.


and how exactly is Calvin Johnson better than Jordy? in what way? Jordy is the best wr in the NFL right now in my personal opinon. He might be a few inches shorter but hes still like 6'3, blazing speed to take it deep, great hands, great leaping ability, quickness to make guys miss (something dwfs...I mean draft gurus dissed him on because he had track speed they said ""he can run in a straight line fast but it takes sun dial to time him changing directions") can make acrobatic catches where its unbelievable how he got 2 feet in bounds. I dunno how he timed 4.51 (although i thought it was 4.49) Iwhen he ran a 10.6 100 meter dash in high school (which is the same time as Hester) oh and not to mention his route running and work ethic combined with his athleticism is what makes him elite but those 2 are mentioned way too much and not enough about athleticism. HOFer but who knows if he gets in being White and the numbers that people are putting up now in the passing game. If he is targeted like this he will definetly stand out from the rest, on pace for 2296 yards right now, highly unlikely to keep having 200 yards a game but would need 140 per game, would be cool to see him break the 2k mark which is what calvin johnson was close to doing. He would have to average around 123 per game for the rest of the season to break 2k

I agree with you CS and know you are my brother in the faith, in that we all have not stood at one time or another. However, Peter was probably more worried about getting arrested and possibly killed that night of Christ's arrest, whereas RG3 on Sunday at the press conference was more worried about offending Jews in the media, not being PC, and losing endorsement deals $$$. Tebow was much bolder.
