Great wins for Chris Billam-Smith and Leigh Wood :)
Yes he rid championship boxing of the blight of Lawrence Okolie and Wood exercised his demons by giving a boxing lesson to Lara who could have lost points for shoving the referee.

Okolie who has used his long limbs in an Octopus like fashion was exposed for being limited defensively and he was docked points for excessive holding and the referee was within his rights for disqualifying the ex McDonalds short order cook. CBS has a lucrative rematch or a fight with Riakporhe in his future all should pay good money under start up Boxxer promotions.

Also Mick Conlan was ko'd again in a challenge for a world title and this time his career is probably in tatters as White Mexican Luis Alberto Lopez rocked and then violently dropped him in the 5th round and the towel was thrown in saving Conlan from taking anymore winging punches from the aggressive Mexican champion.

Taylor Vs. Lopez next week.
Yes it's strange but this week is slow without any major cards less the female headed card with Shields vs her non descript cannon fodder opponent, yet last week had 3 near simultaneous cards based out of Great Britain. You would think one promoter would have booked a venue this weekend.

Usyk has signed with the Saudi money burning promotional firm called Skills Challenge, the prince who runs this company looks like the typical casino lottery winner who is about to blow back his windfall win...https://fightnews.com/usyk-signs-with-skill-challenge-promotions/148672

This weekend is busy beyond belief as Friday has three minor cards and Saturday has a British card and the MSG showdown between Taylor and Lopez.

Irish national Callum Walsh is the headliner on UFC Fight Pass against somebody named Carson Jones. I assume Jones is a club fighting journeyman as this is a showcase fight for the Irish prospect at 154 pounds.

The chief support of the bout has another Muslim Russian national Umar Dzambekov fighting a cannon fodder journeyman in his 5th pro bout.

Walsh is viewed as blue chip prospect as he is trained by Irish-American Freddie Roach I will probably pass on this fight as the NBA final is on at the same time but if the game is a blowout or the card is longer than I think it will broadcast until I will try and catch a stream and report on it.

Frank Warren has a card that is probably running as I type this and might have a White prospect on the card but prospect Tommy Fletcher who I thought was White appears to be a Mulatto so as far as I can tell is bereft of White prospects.

Also 90+year old former felon and mob associate Don King has Adrien Broner fighting a practicing lawyer who is the b side cannon fodder opponent for the obvious punchy Broner. The selling point of the fight is Broner stating" after he beats Bill Hutchinson he will use him to defend himself" against the various pending charges that have plagued Broner as his CTE gets worse with each passing fight.

I wish Hutchinson the best but Broner is exhibit A on the dangers of boxing on the human brain, when you have a law degree you have no need to risk your life for B side pay on professional grifter Don King's boxing cards.

Saturday during the afternoon Sunny Edwards defends his title at 112 pounds against mandatory White Latino Andre Campos. The Chilean national is unbeaten but hasn't faced anyone I can recall at the world level in this division but in these lower weight classes almost all fighters can box and steal rounds if Edwards isn't on point with his conditioning or is lazy with his work rate.

On the under card the Romford Bull is back and he fighting a PR journeyman who has fought a few prospects on the circuit. How Fisher looks is probably more important than getting a W as a win seems like a lock against Emilio Salas who sports a 7 and 4 record.

Later that night Taylor fights the boorish Lopez who is one loss away from becoming a fresher Adrien Broner without the obvious brain damage.

At one time Lopez looked like "the future of the lower weight classes" as he beat Commey violently and then seemed to outhustle an injured Loma. Since then his personal life has imploded and his professional life is tanking with his loss of the title at 135 pounds and his iffy win against Sandor Martin at 140 pounds.

This fight seems like a cash out by "Bub" as the obnoxious Lopez has been rude and borderline racist against the gallant Scot Taylor with the demeaning of his accent and his Scottish heritage. Skills wise it should be Taylor going away but Lopez is dangerous because he is twitchy and had power at 135 pounds but didn't show that much in the Martin fight.

I will probably watch this fight and give a report about the results.

Wow, lawyer/boxer, that's a new one.
There have been a few college grads who were world class boxers. I recall Darrin Van Horne having a degree and taking part time law classes as he fought at the world level in the junior and supermiddleweight divisions, the difference is Van Horne and other graduates fought at the world level and made 6 figure purses in the 90's. Hutchinson would be lucky to get more than 20K for the beating he took last night against Broner.

As I suspected Hutchinson fattened his record up on tank town b side opponents and saw why there are levels in boxing. While not being a stiff he is an A side tank town fighter and took his beating and went the distance. At times the announcing crew was calling for a referee's stoppage or the corner pulling their man, Broner once again had gas tank issues and backed off in the last two rounds.

Broner called for every world champion under the sun but he will be ignored as he has no box office appeal beyond being a b side villain and the boxing public has seen his boorish act one time too many.

Callum Walsh stopped club fighter Carson Jones in the 4th round, according to ringside reports he looked very good as Jones tried to go the distance with a shell defense but Walsh's hand speed forced Jones to get out of his shell and fight back which exposed his chin for the eventual stoppage.

Walsh probably needs a better grade of opponents than somebody like the defensive minded Jones to see where he is at in the loaded junior middleweight division.

Umar Dzambekov blasted out his limited Argentine opponent he too will need tougher opposition to see what level he is at. If he has a typical Russian amateur background they make take the express route to fringe contender level opponents as beating up a cannon fodder opponent like the Argentine is probably a waste of his time.

Later tonight has more cards than I originally mentioned as Ryan Rozicki takes on veteran Eurasian Zamig Atakishiyev in a stay busy fight as he has been ordered to fight an eliminator for the WBC bridgerweight against Kevin Lerena.

Also the "Mechanic" is the B side opponent against Jaime Munguia, Sergiy Derevyanchenko is probably having his last stand at the world level as he has been on a Broner type losing streak against world level opponents. Granted they were high level opponents but the law of averages would say he should have won at least one time against one of these opponents. He will be viewed as B side damaged goods if he doesn't win on Saturday night.

Taylor shat the bed I think, the decision should have gone to Catteral; Taylor seems to be washed. We will see what the decision is.

I had the fight even after 4 rounds and then Taylor seemed to hit the wall and was lucky hear the final bell. The two 115-113 scorecards were shocking as IMO Lopez won 6 or 7 of the next 8 rounds and won this fight going away with two big rounds in the 11th and 12th rounds.

Two listless performances in a row at a weight where he looked very lean at the weigh in is a sign to move up. Of course if he moved up as undisputed he would have much more bargaining power to fight the Crawford vs Spence winner or would have been automatically positioned to fight for one the inevitably fractured vacant belts.

I may comment on the other Saturday fights later tonight or tomorrow if I can bother to make the time.

I like Teofimo for telling the truth about the favoritism shown to black boxers and counter signaling the biased announcers employed these days and how they influence what fans are seeing. Of course, I wish Taylor would have beaten him, but Taylor had a bad game plan. He should have hid behind a jab instead of going after Teo. Teo is a great counter puncher and took Taylor to school.

Watch what a 37 year old white man with bad knees can do.

I only watched this fight in passing but Munguia isn't the monster he looked like he was when he destroyed Sadam Ali for the WBO junior middleweight belt.

The Mechanic had the head of Munguia looking like a bobble head doll at times in this fight and had him stumbling around until the 12th round he had a clear tight lead but he was dropped in the 12th round with a body shot and had to stall and run to make it to the final bell.

If he didn't get dropped he would have "earned" a draw which probably means he should have won against the house fighter on more neutral ground.

Earlier I talked about Derevyanchenko being on his last legs as B side marquee fighter but off of this disputed loss he will come again if he wants to be a B side foil against another contender.

As I stated in other posts Saturday was a busy day with multiple cards across various countries and continents. In the afternoon Johnny Fisher blitzed and stopped his hapless PR opponent. This was to be his last 8 rounder and was advancing to 10 rounders, hopefully this will be the last of this quality of opponents for Fisher.

In the main event the IBF flyweight champion showed more facets to his game than his White Chilean challenger. At times Edwards had the look of a pound for pound fighter with stylistic head movement and clever spinning of his opponent and earned a wide points win.

Eddie Hearn talked about having a verbal agreement with Bam Rodriguez on a fight in principle if the figures were right. Hopefully the numbers can be agreed upon as Edwards deserves a large payday as a typical flyweight champion is lucky to earn low 6 figure purses and in some cases don't even earn that in title fights.

Finally Ryan Rozicki blitzed his veteran Eurasian opponent and stopped him in 3 rounds. He will fight Lerena in a title fight eliminator if both camps agree on the financial terms.

PS Mayweather fought John Gotti's grandson in an exhibition in the Miami area and the fight ended in a disqualification for Gotti's fouling and a riot ensued when both camps charged each other in the ring. A video should be on Youtube at some point...

What did he say? Google search didn't produce any results for me.
Not that it isn't true that Black American boxers are overrated in general..
The mechanic used to be a favorite of mine for his yeoman approach..

A light weekend of boxing. Frazer Clarke vs Mariusz Wach is an HW fight of interest today. Clarke is the heavy favorite.

Tim Tszyu has a near walk over interim title defense this weekend but aside from that and the Wach mismatch it's just prospects fighting on the undercard of the main events.

I'm not sure if the Tszyu fight is OZ prime time or North American, if it's OZ then this fight could be Saturday morning but I can't see Showtime picking up a fight and not bullying the market and forcing a Sunday afternoon fight(OZ time) which is a PPV in Australia.

Updating the weekend bouts Wach was a human heavy bag against the primitive looking Frazer Clarke and lost a shutout decision. While not quite Samuel Peter awful as Wach usually goes the distance with whomever he is the B side against I don't see the point of these beatings if he has a bank ledger that is a decent nest egg to retire on.

The last thing he needs is to become a near 50 year old Danny Williams or James Toney stumbling around the ring and slurring when he was still active a few years back.

Thanks for that. Nice to see someone calling it out. Especially after what they did to Pauli Malignaggi..

Well Tsyzu torched his opponent..1st round KO.
Yes he bowled over the chinny Mexican as I thought the bout would go. His bout against the undisputed Charlo is inching closer to a pick em bout and savvy betters will bet Tszyu with his power and youth.

Also in the chief supporting bout Sam Goodman beat Ra’eese Aleem and secured an IBF mandatory at 122 pounds. He seemed to surge late and win a tight scorecard decision according to Showtime announcers. I only watched this in passing as I had it on in the background while I waited for the Tszyu execution but Farhood's card seemed fair in my limited viewing of the bout.

Note Goodman may be Jewish but he certainly doesn't look it but famous hall of member Murray Goodman was the long time PR man for Madison Square Gardens and his son Bobby worked for King and then later the Gardens in the same capacity.
