Spaniard Sandor Martin defeated Teofimo Lopez, scoring two knockdowns. But he was robbed on the scorecards by the dodgy officials, and the Top Rank referee didn't count the second knockdown.

The fight was in New York, the home town of Lopez.
The scoring was so one sided that even if the referee had scored the second knock down properly Lopez would have eked out a tight a win over the Spaniard.

Arum was protecting his diminishing asset in Lopez. If Lopez keeps on looking like a flat beer left out in the summer sun he will get thrown to the wolves in a title shot that looks like he doesn't have the boxing ability nor power to win.

Eimantis Stanionis is being screwed over big time by the WBA and PBC.

He's been stepping aside for money so Errol Spence could unify. But was guaranteed and promised his shot at Spences real title next.

But now hes not getting his shot at Spence, and has to defend his regular title again in a tough fight against Vergil Ortiz. And it'll be on his opponents promoters show as they won the purse bid.

(Remember Stanionis stepped aside as mandatory so Ugas could face Spence, instead of facing Ugas he had to face the tougher Radzhab Butaev for the regular title. Then he stepped aside for Spence-Crawford but that isn't even happening and Spence is facing Thurman now. Unbelievably corrupt how Stanionis still isn't getting his shot)

at least the WBA have done one thing right. Leo Santa Cruz has been stripped and Leigh Wood has FINALLY been upgraded to WBA super champion at featherweight.

Yep he is going after Oscar's regional cash cow and will either need to knock out Ortiz or beat him from pillar to post. He will have a lot of green backs jingling in his pants pocket as the total purse to be split is 2million+ but if he doesn't win that could be the high point of his career pay wise.

There is a road to victory as Ortiz had weight issues in the past where he was in the early stages of organ failure and had to cancel a fight. Usually when this happens a fighter will move up a division or two but Ortiz must have hired a dietician and must not have let his weight balloon up as much in between fights. Also Stanios has more experience at the fringe world level than Ortiz which could tell in a tight fight.

PS Arslanbek Makhmudov weighed in for his showcase fight against Michael Wallisch at 265 and change. I hope this is the end of this level of opponent as opponents like this are now a waste of time for the Russian prospect. He needs a live body or another wily veteran type like a Chisora.

This card will be televised on ESPN+ in the United States.

PS 2 Lucas Browne was supposed to fight Mahmoud Charr in the middle east this weekend but the fight was cancelled due to the promoter suddenly not having the funds to back the show. In the past many big name promoters were reluctant to field offers from this part of the world as many flim flam artists seemed to want to put on cards with the biggest stars but had the financial solvency of Bernie Madoff. Things have only changed because the Saudi government and other Arab oil states has backed some big fights and other world sporting events for promoting their nation as a business and entertainment destination. https://fightnews.com/weights-from-shawinigan-quebec/141987

PS 3 The big Russian blew out his German opponent in the first round with a corner surrender at the end of the first round. His German opponent wasn't there to do much but cover up and get banged around. Two knockdowns occurred but he also lost a point for rabbit punching. I noticed that there were openings for uppercuts but he seemed to want to punch the German around the temples that led to rabbit punches as the German went into a turtle shell.

There needs to be work done in the gym as Makhmudov would be similar to a mechanic working without all of the wrenches he needs to fix your car. This technique won't work against Fury and probably not Usyk(unless he caught him clean). Even next level heavyweights like Wilder and Joshua could in theory exploit this flaw in his technique.

This might as well be the end of year report. It looks like Tim Tszyu will be fighting for the WBO interim title in late January against Tony Harrison as Charlo has a fractured hand and had to withdraw from the undisputed title fight. The WBO seems to feel there may be hanky panky going on as Charlo has a January 2nd deadline to submit medical reports or it looks like Gypsy Rose routine will happen with that belt.

This fight is very winnable for the younger Tszyu as Harrison has been beaten and stopped in 2 out of 3 world title fights he has fought. I wonder if Tszyu wins and earns the full belt will Charlo even bother to fight him if he looks like a live challenger for his belts.

PS in other news water is wet and Tank Davis is beating on women in his life again. He was Mayweather's "Mini Me" for years now as we have seen again the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree...https://fightnews.com/tank-davis-arrested/142343https://fightnews.com/tyzyu-charlo-update/142378

Thank you sir maybe in another life I was Grantland Rice covering the White Hope era and later the reign of Dempsey.

This weekend is slow for White fighters but Vito Mielnicki Jr fights on the Youtube portion of the Tank Davis ppv tonight. Also long shot Ukrainian fighter Karen Chukhadzhian fights hot contender "Boots" Ennis in an interim IBF welterweight title shot He is a 50 to 1 dog with the sports books so this fight should be viewed similar to the Fury vs Chisora fight from last month. If I bother to view the card tonight I will do a short write up, I will even do the main event if I watch it.

Although he's not White, it was nice to see tough Columbian Roiman Villa defeat the privileged, previously undefeated Rashidi Ellis last night.

And the fleet-footed Karen Chukhadzhian took Jaron Ennis the distance and made him look bad by times. Although it should have been scored something like 117-111 for Ennis, the judges gave every single round to the privileged Ennis (as did the gay-sounding Steve Farhood, who has always hated East European boxers and loved Blacks).

Vito Mielnicki Jr. had a gym workout with his opponent on Saturday night as he easily imposed his will on his journeyman opponent. At the age of 20 fighting this type of opponent won't teach him anything beyond imposing gym sessions which are much more valuable than wins against full time construction workers who limelight as boxers.

As you stated the German based Ukrainian would have had to beat Ennis with a baseball bat and he would have salvaged a draw. I too had the fight in a similar scoring range and had the fight even after 4. Ennis seemed lost at times in this fight and doesn't look like the unbeatable force he was against faded veterans.

As for the main event Tank Davis eventually caught and tagged a naturally smaller man and the corner of the Afro-Dominican boxer probably saved him from a violent knock out as he complained of being blind in one eye and was too disorientated to find his corner after taking a beating at the end of the 8th round.

The Garcia fight is also not in jeopardy as Tank's girlfriend recanted her domestic violence allegations this doesn't mean it didn't happen it just means it isn't in her best(financial) interest to press charges.

It's another slow weekend for White contenders and prospects but Guido Vianello fights fringe contender/ trial horse Johnathan Rice in a semifinal bout on the Ajagba vs Shaw card in Verona NY at the Turning Stone Casino. Interestingly both Vianello and the Nigerian national are slight betting under dogs to their B side opponents. Concerning Rice he boxed the ears off Michael Coffie twice when Coffie was viewed as a late blooming fringe contender. Rice can box but focus was always his problem as he tended to blow up in between fights.

I may give a report on the Vianello fight if I can make time for it as the NFL playoffs will be on when the boxing card is on ESPN.https://fightnews.com/weights-from-verona-ny-5/142908

I watched the Vianello bout and frankly wasn't surprised. He controlled the most of the fight with his jab but, didn't do much more. Unfortunate way to end the bout but, Vianello is to slow and methodical to go far.

Hoping Loma fights Haney and wins. 4 years ago I would have had Loma wing for sure but he has a lot of wear and tear on him. Sadly it is a 50 50 fight at the moment.

I will take a half full approach but as you said he dominated the fight on the scorecards but didn't impose his will as the scoring would suggest. If I didn't know any better Rice is a live version of the old Intellivsion boxing's yellow boxer who was widely unpredictable as he was passive beyond the rare right hand where one caused the massive gash. Vianello should lobby "Bub" for a rematch and work on his aggression.

PS the main event could have been the drug free cure for insomnia as it was more methodical than the semifinal bout. Top Rank should have a marketing line of if Ajegba doesn't put his opponent to sleep he will put you to sleep....

I would like you to be correct but, don't really think Vianello has it in him to take on a front foot aggressive style. May further expose his lack of speed.

Also, I am of the opinion that Loma has had a lot going outside the ring and with his age and lengthy list of accomplishments should consider retiring. Going forward there may be a bigger need for him outside the ring to fight the forces that are corrupting his homeland.

Some interesting fights this weekend mostly in England. Eubanks vs Smith could be an entertaining fight.
The Christmas and New Years break seems to have ended as there quite a few fights this weekend. Johnathan Guidry fights the shell of Bermane Stiverne. Guidry if he wants to do anything in this division has to be the shot Stiverne and dominate him anything less than that and the bloom will be off the rose.

Liam Smith fights Chris Eubank Jr. who at the weigh in for their middleweight fight was sporting a rainbow arm band. Smith questioned if he was a puff and Eubank didn't deny it or threaten to do harm to Smith for free with the accusation so there is probably smoke to his accusation. This fight is close to a 50/50 fight but Eubank is naturally larger but he has never won at the world level and is well into his 30's. If Smith can handle the weight jump he should out work the low volume Eubank.

Jack Massey is the B side to the come back of Joe Parker. Massey is a former fringe world cruiserweight champion and is spotting 30 pounds and a win would be going the distance with the naturally larger Parker.

Krzysztof Glowacki is the B side to Richard Riakporhe. Glowacki seems to be fading and the African ascending Glowacki needs to have a championship level performance to win this one as any close decision won't go his way with Riakporhe backed by the promotional company of the broadcast.

Updating the weekend fights Joseph Parker pounded out unanimous decision over the game Jack Massey. Parker was able to impose his strength advantage in the second half of the fight but Massey won early rounds with superior hand speed but was reduced to too much holding in the second half of the fight and lost a point due to it. Massey would be better served at cruiserweight if he isn't going to try and move in and out against more stationary heavyweights.

I have no little regards for Eubanks jnr, or his father who was an embarrassment but, the ref should have stopped that fight after the 1st 4th round knockout.

I know it should have been stopped after the first knockdown, but being the house fighter he was going to get every chance to go on.

When I first saw this fight live I missed the ko and wasn't sure who won until I saw the Smith corner celebrating. Junior Eubank was found wanting again but this time he was ko'd. There is a rematch clause if team Eubank exercise the rematch Smith should jump at the rematch as I always felt he would out work Eubank and now we saw he can crack his chin. The press conference for the rematch could be fun with Smith asking what size dress Junior would be wearing for the Pride Parade...

PS Johnathan Guidry out worked the old and obese Stiverne but was much too respectful for the shot veteran and allowed him to last the distance as he had him reeling and ready to be ko'd at least twice in the fight. Winning is the most important thing but marketing yourself is nearly as important and going 12 one sided rounds with a shot veteran doesn't move the needle with the boxing public.

Definitely a satisfying win and always good to see punks like Eubanks get the **** beat out of them. INTERESTING FACT,

LIAM AND HIS BROTHER, CALLUM both lost to Canello but both have been boxing better since said losses. Canello really beat the hell out of Liam’s body So possibly they have learned something from the losses.
