It wouldn't surprise me if his NFL career were over.
Teams need only the slightest excuse to pass on a white skill player. Meanwhile, Michael Vick will be back in the league earning millions soon.

You could be right Riddlewire: Although I must say I'm expecting he lands somewhere after his year last year. Look at the typical reactions in the first 3 comments from the DWFs (This is a huge part of the problem):

1st DWF Post: "Matt Jones is a "POSSESSION WR" and my Boys have that already. THEY NEED SPEED. Jones will make another team better once he signs with them."

2nd DWF Post: "About time. He's had his chances."

3rd DWF Post: "I figured the Jags would give him one more chance and he would have to prove it during training camp, and if he didn't, would be cut before the season. I guess I was wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry Jones doesn't sign Matt Jones for an one year contract for 2 million. He "WOULDN'T BE A DEEP THREAT" but definitely a 3rd down WR. "OR MAYBE HE'S DONE". Who knows when so many people have been cut this year and still don't have a team.
------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------

Are the fans really this ignorant on Matt Jones physical attributes?

Meanwhile Brandon Marshall got a one game suspension last year after already having a DUI which puts people's lives in jeopardy and then a violent domestic disturbance.

And yes: Vick is now back in the league after killing dogs. Double standards this large can only happen in the American sport's world.

Again Draftdaddy tells it like it is. Here's their opinion on the latest Matt Jones "scandal".

DD.comment: We are all for N.F.L. teams clamping down on bad behavior, but this appears to be a joke. Had Jones been caught snorting coke or rolling a joint, the Jags would've had no choice but to cut him as soon as possible. But kicking him to the curb for drinking a beer, just to please some blood-thirsty pundits in the mainsteream media, seems pretty harsh. Sure, Jones should've known better and not touched any alcohol while on probation, but he already payed for this small transgression by spending a week locked up in jail. Hopefully the N.F.L. doesn't pile on and suspend him, as he's already suffered enough for consuming a legal beverage during a golf out. Jones, who was on pace for 1,000 yard season before being suspended last year, should find a new team by the start of the summer, assuming teams aren't scared off by media members that over-exaggerate Jones' "troubled past". We know Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who played at Arkansas in the 1950's (or 1960's?), was quite fond of Jones prior to the 2005 draft and they do have a spot open with Terrell Owens leaving.

I would love to see the Cowboys or Browns pick him up. This may turn out to be a blessing for Matt Jones.

It could go either way. He could land somewhere good or his career could be over. As a first round pick he should have some "cover" but his skin color probably negates any advantage of that. Add another 1st round "bust" to the castewriters all time list!

I hope his career isnt over, he was just starting to show promise, despite being misused. He was on pace for 1,000 yards receiving being used as a possession receiver. Imagine if was used more like Randy Moss every once in a while. They say it takes a few years for receivers to adjust to the pro game, but he never played receiver before so he should get a little more time, and last year he really started to shine. It would be ridiculous if he never played football again. Maybe he wanted to be released from the Jags and drank the beer on purpose. I just hope he winds up on a team that utilizes his talents. (Come on Sean Payton, pick him up!)

Pairing him and Roy Williams would be great. You would have two very fast, very big receivers who can play the inside or outside. They would be tough to guard. Come on Jerry, make it happen!

yeah but think about him being paired with Marques Colston with Jeremy Shockey at TE, Reggie Bush (who is a good receiver out of the backfield) and Heath Evans in the backfield. Who do you cover?
or you can have two tight end sets with him and colston with shockey and dan campbell with evans in the backfield, could be a run, could be a pass, hard to cover. GET IT DONE PAYTONEdited by: dwid

Just so he goes to a team that has a quarterback that can throw the ball, not one with an "affletic" dink and dunker with a useless "rocket arm."

If I were Jerry Reese and the Giants I would sign Jones in a heart beat.

1. He'd come at a cheap cost, which is the way the Giants are operating now a days.
2. They can get rid of a real criminal like Plaxico and replace him with a younger and faster tall receiver. Jones will fill that roll and create a good group with Steve Smith, D. Hixon and potentially M. Manningham.
3. Coach Tom clearly does not want Burress back and this could be the option out of the messy situation.
4. The Giants are built to win now. They cannot afford to draft a WR high in the draft and wait for him to develop. If they sign Jones, they can draft one of the stud linebackers in the first round and solidify the defense which is how they usually draft anyway.
5. Eli can throw the deep ball better than most QBs

My 2 cents. I obviously have a Giants bias but I really do think this would be a perfect pairing. What other playoff caliber team with a good QB has such a glaring hole at WR (other than the Cowboys)?

maybe he should've assaulted his wife/girlfriend or choked a kid or stabbed two people to death in the street...

then, he'd be another "outstanding young man, who just made a mistake, and the whole team will be behind him."

i can't answer to whether or not Jones has a drug problem, but the obvious double standard is blatant. and for all the drunken white fans who are throwing him under the bus for drinking a beer, i have nothing but enmity in my heart. these are the same people who swallow their negro worship down with many a cold one on Sundays at the game.

pathetic.

Yeah, I might actually root for Jones to be signed by Dallas or New York. Romo or Manning throwing him the ball will help alot. The Browns would work as well.

Then the Cowboys would just need to just get their damn sumos off the line and get a few more white defenders.

I also think this is a blessing for Matt.

Jones has made moves this off season to make the Cowboys better, and a little more whiter, With Olshansky, and Brookings coming in, Jones would be a nice addition to the two. Three more (hopefully) white starters for the Cowboys.

im a giants fan and i really do hope they pick him up. im too young to remember their last white wide reciever. How tall is jones, 6'4"? The giants need a tall reciever in order to take advantage of their smaller, quicker recievers

I know things like this Jones situation make us think the worst but we have to look on the bright side. Jones is no longer on the blackest team in the league. Things can only get better for him.

Kevin Walter was drafted by the Giants in the 7th round in '03 but never played for them. Before that. . . Phil McConkey maybe who was a backup in the late '80s? Even when they had Jason Sehorn at CB and Sean Bennett at RB they were all black at receiver.

Someone emailed the site and mentioned that two WRs I forgot,Joe Jurevicius and Ed McCaffrey, both played for the Giants.

Both were high draft picks -- McCaffrey was taken in the third round in '91, Jurevicius in the second round in '98. McCaffrey was woefully underused and wasn't "allowed" to start in the NFL until he was in his eighth season and with his third team. Jurevicius was rarely a starter in his career, which spanned ten seasons and four teams.

I completely agree with this post being a big Giant's fan. Jones would be a Plaxico type with significantly "MORE ATHLETICISM", but maybe a bit less refined.

Jones would adhere to Coughlin's team rules better than Plax and isn't charged with an offense that directly put lives in jeopardy like Plax.

But look where black GM Jerry Reece has taken the team last year. He has been getting the lovefest from fans from his '07 amazing draft, but I believe he drafted no white players last year if I recall.

Even with the clear double standards I would be somewhat shocked if Jones doesn't land anywhere this season. I think even most of the DWFs might sense something's up if Jones doesn't with the likes of Vick and TO getting another shot.

This is a great argument against the caste system. It's like how Nick Saban wanted to cut Wes Welker in Miami in pre-season 2005.

Ed McCaffrey was a phenomenal WR (even the DWFs realize this), but didn't start in the NFL until after his 30th birthday if I recall. I wouldn't be surprised either if the only reason Ed got his shot in Denver was because of a black player's injury.

In a fair world EVERY team would be tripping over each other as they sprint to get him on to the roster.Edited by: P-NutLane
