Guy with the layup. Then Moretti with the clutch 3 pointer. Gonna be an exciting finish.

Great to see Virginia win it! Guy and Jerome combine for 40 of their 85 points. Hunter was outstanding also.

New England wins the Superbowl and Virginia wins the NCAA Tournament. Can't remember a result that good for us in decades.

Seemed to me in overtime some of the players on Texas Tech reverted to playground ball. Ignore your teammates and throw up poor quality shots. Just sayin'.

Great championship game. A lot of clutch plays by Guy and Jerome. Good showing for Moretti and Mooney. A true showcase for White guards that can do it all at the highest level. Kyle Guy looks to be a definite NBA talent. It will be interesting to see if he and Jerome return for their senior seasons. Mooney finished out a great college career and definitely made a good decision to finish at Tech. Moretti is just a sophomore and is already a high level shooter with great speed and quickness. He has a great future.

Kyle Guy is MVP! ... technically, he is Most Outstanding Player (MOP) of the whole tournament, so it takes into account his 3 clutch free throws and all 6 games.

Five of the last ten NCAA tournament MOPs have been white:
2010 Singler
2013 Hancock
2016 Arcidiacono
2018 DiVincenzo
2019 Guy

Like Riggins says above with New England and now Virginia winning we should count our blessings. And they are similar. Brainy and whereas the Patriots win with non caste WRs, Virginia wins with an all white back court.

What a ride. Virginia was involved in three of the most exciting games in a row I recall in the history of the tournament and like a calm in the storm they weathered every punch that came their way. A remarkable and historic run. There is no other way to describe it. And a great redemption story to boot after they were humiliated losing to a 16 seed last year. Like they said. It sounds like a ready made movie.

The poise that Virginia plays with is beyond belief. Like a boxer who just keeps getting up off the canvas Virginia just kept making cluth plays when it mattered most. Under live or die pressure to boot.

Hunter played lights out. I have to give him credit. After a slow start he dominated both ends of the floor and hit the clutch three to send it in to overtime. He almost screwed it up by flinging the ball to Guy as Guy was calling a timeout before the overtime which gave TT a chance for a winning bucket. But overall he helped stop TT star Culver who went 5-22 from the field.

The best backcourt in the country once again proved why they are the best. Guy was tremendous for the third straight game in a row. An underrated athlete, he has great hops and can get his shot off in a flash. Guy just kept making clutch shots and making winning plays. One of my favorite college players so what a great thing to see him on top of the mountain. And Virginia as a whole was one of my favorite teams all season so couldn't have asked for a better outcome.

As for Jerome he ran the team like a symphony conductor. Swatting away Texas Tech's vaunted defensive pressure like a fly he went about his business and controlled the game. He had 8 assists (none bigger than the cross court pass for that Hunter three) and had only one turnover. The ball was in his hands most of the game. Too smart for other teams with his quick mind and dexterity Jerome found the cracks in the Texas Tech defense and exploited them. He carved them up like a surgeon.

The best team in the country won and it was great to see even though the game was nerve wracking. I guess that is the way Virginia likes it. Ha. Unlike most media outlets I had said that very thing a couple of times here at CF ( check the records for those looking in) during the season and Jack Lambert predicted they would win the tournament. So this media outlet was ahead of the rest of the media curve who were so smitten with Duke they couldn't envision a well disciplined team like Virginia winning the whole thing. Feels great.

Texas Tech also learned the hard way Virginia is also a great defensive team. And they hit all of their late free throws putting the game away with poise under pressure.

I thought PG Moretti made some big plays and will be a player to watch next season.

And HC Tony Bennett is a true leader and motivator. Not one of those blustery look at me head coaches but just a calm thinker through all of the turmoil and pressure. He has always exhumed class and I am happy he has finally bagged the big one and quieted his critics.

So yes the Patriots/Virginia victories is a double decker delight.

[Also more good news. Baylor superstar Lauren Cox only sustained an MCL sprain and bone bruise. Most expected much worse. She will be shelved for a while of course but hard not to root for her. Cripes she plays with a diabetes pump. So a great night all around.]

Man I’m so disappointed, Virginia has to be the luckiest team in March madness history.

For the sake of accuracy I bring you this news. Although I still would have been rooting for Virginia. Ty Jerome's papa is biracial. I thought something was amiss when ESPN's Undefeated wrote up a recent story on him.

That whole thing slipped by the goalie here at CF. But again I won't let it ruin the day and besides I am a huge fan of Kyle Guy so I'm happy just the same.

Yes......what a great year for us in sports. Started with Donte D tearing up March Madness last year.......winning Most Outstanding Player and the cover of SI. Then Trevor Lawrence, Hunter Renfrow, Tanner Muse and Clemson taking out Saban’s ‘dark starship’. Then the Patriots winning the SB with Edelman named MVP. And now Virginia winning the NC with Kyle Guy capturing MOP!

I'm not so sure Jerome's father is biracial. If he is he's almost all white. Ty and his brother look very white.

First off, what a title game last night!! Two heavyweight teams that played fundamental basketball trading blows back and forth. It was one of the better championship games I've seen in a while. I did like during the end of the game, where Jerome and Guy were guarding Mooney and Moretti and vice versa. All of our guys played great games. Guy finished off an outstanding Final Four with a sterling performance in the spotlight with 24 points. Hunter was incredible last night as well, stepping up when Virginia needed him. Jerome was his usual excellent self, with 16 points 8 assists and 6 boards.

For Texas Tech, Matt Mooney started slow, but hit some big shots down the stretch. Moretti was Tech's most consistent player all night, finished tied for the team lead in scoring with 15 points. Tech's two bench players played great as well. All in all, a great showcase for our guys, and I'm glad I stuck with the Cavs to cut down the nets.

In regards to Shadowlight's post, I agree with Riggins. If his dad is "biracial" it certainly isn't much. In that same article Shadowlight references, Ty Jerome even calls himself "unathletic" and "not long." Skimming over the first part of it, the article has stories about how all the "real athletes" in New York on the basketball court didn't think he could play, obviously implying that based off his skin tone. Everybody's entitled to do what they wish, but it won't affect me considering or rooting for him as a white athlete at this point. Nearly all sports fans obviously consider Jerome white, there would be nowhere near the whining or bitching about how Virginia "cheated" their way to a title via the refs if it was just Kyle Guy as the only white starter. Not to mention, Jerome was at the center of the ridiculous "double dribble" that happened in part because the Auburn player was fouling him.

Jerome is whiter than Moretti, who's from Italy. I consider both Jerome and Moretti white. Jerome is also whiter than Enes Kanter, Vlade Divac, and Peja Stojakovic - who a lot of basketball fans consider white. And Kanter is celebrated here on CF by many, so Jerome passes the CF Kanter test.

First off because of the way Jerome plays and looks this news isn't as damaging as it would be under normal situations. I am very strict on the subject and if Guy wasn't a star on this team it would be a different story but as it stands it isn't an earthquake revelation.

If you are referring to skin shade between Jerome and Moretti maybe Jerome is of a "lighter" hue. But technically Moretti and all Italians are white people. There isn't any "consideration" whatsoever over that fact. Hell I am Italian.

Serbians and Croats and all other "non gypsy" people from the former Yugoslavia are white.

Perhaps Turks fall into an area that isn't as cut and dry although I tend to think most Turks are "white."

Jerome's father's mother is black. So I don't see a connection between Moretti (Divac etc.) and Jerome. Moretti and Divac are white and Jerome is mostly white but part black. To me that is a big dividing line.

Tom Chambers had a teammate named Danny Vranes who was better leaper than Chambers. I believe he was a first-round pick in the early 80s. He could really sky but was not a great shooter.
Also I have to mention my favorite Gamecock player of all time, Kevin Joyce. He was an unbelievable jumper and shooter. He was responsible for one of the most famous plays in ACC tournament history when Joyce at 6'3" out jumped 6'10 Lee Dedmon on a jump ball tapping it to Tom Owens who laid it in for the winning basket, to win the 1971 tournament. This was when only one team went to the NCAA tournament from the ACC. It was the only time South Carolina went during Frank Mcguire .

Can't help myself with these athletic white players from the past. I remember when UCLA beat Missouri (had to look up the year) in the 1995 tournament as PG Tyus Edney drove the length of the court to win and man was I pissed.

Missouri had a PG at that time Jason Sutherland who was known for his high flying ducks. Does he ring a bell? Sutherland wasn't that tall. Around 6 foot plus but he had terrific hops and was exciting. Never became a super star but he was fun.

I really don't remember Sutherland I wish I did, because it brings an added excitement to a game when there is an explosive white player on the court. Shadowlight do you remember Wally Walker from Virginia. He was a good leaper, not great but could score at will. Played with Jeff Lamp and Ralph Sampson. He played several years with Seattle.
Also got to mention Brian Winters of South Carolina I believe he played most of his career with the Bucks another stud white player.

I only remember Brian Winters with the Bucks ( he had a beard which was rare those days) and Wally Walker with Seattle. Both were complimentary NBA players.

I do remember and liking Jeff Lamp on those Ralph Sampson teams. He was a star forward at Virginia. I think I was rooting for Virginia because of Lamp. He was very smooth. Funny thinking back how hazy the memory can get but I recall Lamp pretty well. I looked up his stats. He had a stellar career at Virginia.

I do remember Sutherland. Tough kid, great athlete. Go back further and that reminds me of K-State’s PG Steve Henson - played in the late ‘80s early ‘90s. At 5’11”, he could high jump 7 feet. Also a deadly sharp shooter. To my recollection, he and Mitch Richmond took K-State to the elite 8 in ‘88 before losing to eventual Nat’l champ Kansas.

Shadowlight I was racking my brain to remember more players from the west. I grew up watching ACC basketball and I am more familiar with players that played in this region, but of all the players to forget I didn't think it would be Keith Van Horne. He had a 40"vertical could run like a deer and could shoot the lights out. Had a decent pro career. Casey Jacobsen from Stanford was also an explosive jumper.

I agree with the last sentence 100%. Below are photos of Jerome parents. In the first picture (Yankee Stadium) Jerome senior has an almost Egyptian/Moroccan look to him and could either be your typical mulatto/******* type or a swarthy Middle Easterner or Puerto Rican/Dominican type from New York. My guess is there are tons of men that look like senior in the NYC area. As Howard Stern (who I haven't listened to since 2004) once said: Walking around New York City there are a lot of people that are not white or black....but I just can't figure what they are? Senior Jerome definitely fits in that group, I'd say.

In the second picture (at Syracuse) he looks a bit lighter. He has a non-white appearance, but not the look of your typical mulatto -- besides the flared nostrils. Kind of looks like college coach Kelvin Sampson, who I always assumed was mulatto, but turned out to be Native American. Also, in the photo Riggins posted, Jerome Sr. seems to have straight hair, not typical of a half-breed mulatto. Even Derek Jeter and the Chiefs quarterback/******* man do not have straight hair? Is it possible Jerome Senior's mother is a Rosie Perez type, dark skinned Hispanic?

Finally, I'd say Ty Jerome ( BTY his brother looks even whiter) has a look similar to NBA guard Tyler Johnson, who upon closer inspection looks like he might be part non-white? Fellow NBA guard Evan Fournier, from France, has a similar look to Jerome Senior and we know he's the son a tall, dorky Frenchmen and a Moroccan female, who is some sort of Martial Arts teacher.

P.S: booth, isn't longtime NBA head coach Rick Carlisle another former ACC star that played at Virginia? I don't think he was an explosive jumper, but he should've been on some of those better teams from the Ralph Sampson era?
