Guy with the layup. Then Moretti with the clutch 3 pointer. Gonna be an exciting finish.
I never saw Guy being named MOP..........
For the sake of accuracy I bring you this news. Although I still would have been rooting for Virginia. Ty Jerome's papa is biracial. I thought something was amiss when ESPN's Undefeated wrote up a recent story on him.
That whole thing slipped by the goalie here at CF. But again I won't let it ruin the day and besides I am a huge fan of Kyle Guy so I'm happy just the same.
Tom Chambers had a teammate named Danny Vranes who was better leaper than Chambers. I believe he was a first-round pick in the early 80s. He could really sky but was not a great shooter.
Also I have to mention my favorite Gamecock player of all time, Kevin Joyce. He was an unbelievable jumper and shooter. He was responsible for one of the most famous plays in ACC tournament history when Joyce at 6'3" out jumped 6'10 Lee Dedmon on a jump ball tapping it to Tom Owens who laid it in for the winning basket, to win the 1971 tournament. This was when only one team went to the NCAA tournament from the ACC. It was the only time South Carolina went during Frank Mcguire .
I do remember Sutherland. Tough kid, great athlete. Go back further and that reminds me of K-State’s PG Steve Henson - played in the late ‘80s early ‘90s. At 5’11”, he could high jump 7 feet. Also a deadly sharp shooter. To my recollection, he and Mitch Richmond took K-State to the elite 8 in ‘88 before losing to eventual Nat’l champ Kansas. Can't help myself with these athletic white players from the past. I remember when UCLA beat Missouri (had to look up the year) in the 1995 tournament as PG Tyus Edney drove the length of the court to win and man was I pissed.
Missouri had a PG at that time Jason Sutherland who was known for his high flying ducks. Does he ring a bell? Sutherland wasn't that tall. Around 6 foot plus but he had terrific hops and was exciting. Never became a super star but he was fun.
Jerome's father's mother is black. So I don't see a connection between Moretti (Divac etc.) and Jerome. Moretti and Divac are white and Jerome is mostly white but part black. To me that is a big dividing line.
