Is there an reason as to why Carson Steele is being swapped to FB?

He really doesn’t a lot a lot of choice what position he plays as a undrafted free agent. At this point he just has to grin and bear it or get cut. If Steele would have stayed at Ball st and rushed for 1500 + yards not split carries like he did at UCLA he probably would’ve been drafted and had a little bit of leverage. Carsons 4.77 forty didn’t help either. Also the chances of the Chiefs, keeping two white runningbacks are slim to none and it seems like the team has more invested in Zammitt.

I agree (though his part-time use at UCLA was better for his name recognition and potential viability in the NFL than full-time use at Ball State), but at the same time he doesn't have to act like such an eager puppy dog about it.

To his credit, Will Shipley said multiple times before and after being drafted that he considers himself the best running back in this year's draft. Since he went undrafted, Steele can't/shouldn't go that far, but he could at least say that he considers himself a running back and intends to prove that it's the best position for him to play in the NFL.

This. The only reason that I can think of is that they have already graduated with their BA or BS and they don't want to continue for their free scholly masters. Steele definitely should have stayed at UCLA another year.

Steele is adopting the typical mentality of White athletes well documented here for decades now. Unless Steele were to be used like a fullback in a west coast offense than being a battering ram for lesser black players isn't ideal.

I hate to say it, but I think steel has a weak mentality. He lost his starting job when he transferred to UCLA of all places, not a hotbed for running back production.

He has exhibited the same type of shucks happy to be here attitude that doomed Toby Gerhart.

More Whites need to have the mentality of Christian McCaffrey and Will Shipley, who know they are the best athletes every time they step on the field.

Because Steele is white he must automatically be a better blocker so the black rb’s can carry the rock. I also looked up the journo who disingenuously framed the question by bringing up Steele moving to fb and he looks like a jew (surprise!) but can’t be completely sure. In camp Steele is mostly working with the 2nd team unit along with Clyde Edwards-Helaire. 1st team is primarily Isaiah Pacheco and Denaris Prince. Steele has been getting most of the reps with that group however, CEH not so much. Steele has also been in with the 1st team for their "heavy" packages mostly lead blocking (yuck).

The good news is that he is in the top 4 RB's primarily, Reid likes the flexibility he gives with his ability to run, catch the ball and be a big dude for pass protection. With any luck he might be able to take over Jerick McKinnon's 3rd down role, that would be ideal.

Yes, with the 2nd team offense he's gotten the bulk of the work this week. Some of the mock "final 53" rosters by the local beat writers have Steele making the team, he's impressed a lot of folks. It's still early, we haven't even had a preseason game yet, but if he keeps doing what he's been doing he might actually make this team.

They've been playing Jack Cochrane in the middle with Drue Tranquill and Leo Chenal on the ends. Tranquill has been an absolute beast this entire training camp according to observers.

Hard to root against Chiefs at this point... I like how they have built the team with plenty of pale faced overachievers.
