Here's an exchange from Draftdaddy.com, a site with a unique concept --
supporting white athletes objectively, without having to resort to the
degradation of black athletes ... doubt it will catch on here, but we can
always hope:
DD.com mailbag from Canada:
I loved the article on Jesse Lumsden, but I'm with you on this, why would
you play him fullback?....Have they taken the time to watch any of his
university games?
I had the privilege to play with him in High School, and to watch him play
at McMaster. I watched him run for over 10 yards per carry, catch passes
like a seasoned reciever, and return kicks, often for touchdowns. This kid
is a specimen, at 6'2" 228 lbs, and that 4.45 speed. I don't remember any
running back at the combine last year with those numbers. He also
produced at running back very well for the Hamilton Ti-cats in 2005.
Actually, now that I think of it, he was more successful then Ricky
Williams, who is stinking up the canadian league, but is considered a
"gem" among NFL gm's.
I know that someday, the NFL will come to it's sense's when it comes to
Canadian talent, and hopefully the NCAA will follow (Jesse was putting up
number in high school to, and was just as big and fast as he is now). I
wish Jesse all the best, along with Kerry Carter, and Mike Sellers, who
played ball up here for a few years.
If I see Jesse take one snap at fullback, I will personally go down there
and slap him myself. He is too good a talent to be wasted as a blocking
fullback in the offence in Washington. If Jesse had played NCAA ball
instead of CIS, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
DD.com comment: Thank youfor the E-Mail. We have many Canadian
readers, so anything we find on Lumsden, who is a Doug Flutie-like folk
hero in Canada, we try to blog. Obviously, we feel Jesse should be
developed as a running back in the NFL. We've stated that since the
spring of 2005. But, it seems to us, that won't happen. It's almost like the
NFL is acknowledging he possesses unique physical talent, but is trying to
find a place for him to play "other than running back".
Who knows, someday the great Jeremy Schaap of ESPN will do a hard-
hitting Outside The Lines story about Jesse: A long-snapper with 4.45
speed, is this a new trend or just a fluke?
