I think it was a bad decision to sign with them.He should have waited a little while longer to see if the Colts or the Panthers would have stepped forward. The Redskins are just too deep at the running back position.Look what happened to Forsey. This might be Lumsdens last shot at the NFL and he will probably just sit like he did in Seattle.I hope I'm wrong.

Yeah and the Colts and Panthers love to use big, fast and athletic
white boys! Come on, Jesse signed because the Redskins are giving
him a shot. Of course it will take loosing the first, second,
third and forth string (black) running backs to get a chance. It
will probably take loosing a back on the other team as well, but
Lumsden could see some playing time in an altered reality of the future
when parallel universes collide.

I hear where your coming from but here is my reasoning. The Panthers have played Goings quite a bit and he is half to three quarters white at running back. They also have played Brad Hoover on some occasions as the starting running back. Then look at players like Jake Delhome,Ricky Proehl,Mangum, etc. I just think that he would have had a slightly better chance than in Washington.Even Indy has had Stokley as one of their star receivers & Pyatt returning punts & kickoffs.I just think those teams are a little more white friendly. Not much but they would probably give him half a chance. That being said,I understand you have to take what is given to you.Again I wish him the best and hope I'm wrong.

It's hard to find any NFL team that favors the use of any white running back, but it's a shame he went to a team that has an established top 5-10 RB in the league. I would have liked to see him go to a team in need of a RB.

There was a white running back who played for the Giants and then Indy a few years back. Sean Bennet was his name I think. He wasn't the player Lumsden could be.

I could care less what number he wears, as long as he gets carries, kicks butt, and takes names!

I think this is more than just a chance signing. I think he will stick. I believe the Redskins want him on the team - he's not just another 'camp body', a guy showing up to give the starters training partners and then get promptly cut. He will be the bonafide #3, behind 1-Portis, 2-Betts. He is better than Carter/Broughton/etc, and has more talent than special team demon Cartwright. I think Cartwright may be the odd man out in DC. His signing is more significant than that of Forsey last year who was just basically a camp body - and now essentially off the map. They must see something in Lumsden, I hear he had about 5 offers too - so he's obviously a desired player. ( I assume the Colts were intersted, the other teams I don't know)

I really wanted him to go to the Colts. All of the rumors are that they are going to let go of E.James.He is getting too old even though he is a excellent running back.Lumsden would have been in the perfect situation there.I hope he does make it either with the Redskins or some other team.He deserves a legitimate shot.He has so much potential.I know he can be a starter in the nfl if only given the chance.Good luck to him.

Again I'm frustrated. The AZ Cardinals signed E.James to a long term contract today.I knew that the Colts were going to let him go almost a year ago. That is why I have been saying over & over how I wanted Lumsden to go to the Colts. He would have gotten a legitmate chance to try to earn the number one running back spot.He will never get that in Washington and you guys know that. They have too many guys in front of him.I still wish him well but I really wish he could have ended up in Indy!

John Riggins anyone? Lets not forget that Joe Gibbs played the last white great. Has anyone heard Gibbs comment on Riggins lately? Does he still think he could play today if he were 24? Or has he embraced the Caste System and stated that he could not play as well as Clinton Portis?

Riggins could play in any era, he is a better back then Bettis, Curtis Martin ,Edge and almost every "great" back of this era. Only the truly legendary backs were marginally better because they could cut back better.........

Right, but you're not Joe Gibbs. Win the coach, win the owner, win the game, and you will win the fans. Then, you're a superstar. Right now, do the fans even know who Jesse Lumsden is? I saw him return kicks in the CFL.

I just can't stomach it any more. A white running back getting a "legitimate chance" to be the primary back for the Colts or any other team... simply ludicrous. Have we learned nothing? Geez....

Lumsden was actually made the feature back late into the season by Hamilton. He actually averaged 5 yards a carry. He can play will he make the Redskins, who knows it could end up being a numbers game. I don't think Gibbs would cut him because he is white, he just hired a white or at least caucasian latino to play safety...........

Read CF's team reports on the Redskins, and Brock Forsey's and John Standeford's history with Gibbs, among others. Gibbs signed Archuleta, but another excellent safety, Matt Bowen, was basically run off the team. Remember too that John Riggins was already with Washington when Gibbs became head coach there the first time around.
