Denver Broncos General Thread

Broncos let go of Wilson and now Cushenberry. They currently have 11 white starters in addition to Moss, Henningsen, and Sanders rotating in on defense.
looks like the Bronco's are allowing more of the TRUE upsiders to start on the field, things are really looking up for this team, wonder if they'll make it to the playoff's

Is there any hope that the Broncos will choose a white QB with Russell Wilson's release from Bronco's, or would that break the ESG mould that all NFL teams have to fit into or get fined a lot?
They already have Jarrett Stidham on the roster, who Sean Payton likes a lot. They may still draft one though.

I've been hearing Bo Nix to Denver because of the Drew Brees comp. It's pretty lazy but I get the idea behind it. I don't think JJ is falling to Denver unless they trade up, lots of speculation that McCarthy will be off the board at pick 5 via trade with the Chargers and it's unlikely they'd hand a division rival that pick. So Bo Nix or Penix are both possibilities, hopefully the former.

Broncos could end up being a good team for us this year! If we get a white QB, Riley Moss plays, maybe some TEs, other front 7 guys retain starting positions, and if I recall there’s that former chargers slot guy at WR.

Great signing for the broncos. Barton is severely underrated. I don’t think they miss a beat losing Jewell while at the same time the Panthers gain a very good starter. A rare win-win in the Caste NFL.

Now I'm just waiting for Stidham to become the starting QB and this team will be a forum favourite!

Great example of doublespeak here: "Despite fielding Alex Singleton and Josey Jewell as their starting linebackers for the past couple of years, the Denver Broncos have had a significant need to bolster their linebacker room for a long time. Drew Sanders is a young option who is still learning the ropes of playing the position after transitioning from playing the edge. However, his positional future is still up in the air after some remarks from George Paton at the NFL Scouting Combine about him ending up as an edge."

So even though Jewell and Singleton were an amazing dynamic duo of tackling machines unparalleled in the league, the Broncos had a "significant need to bolster" the position even while Jewell and Singleton were starting and dominating. Ok, whatever, nothing to see here, move along. . .

Ah the perpetual myth that any position with too many goys, can magically improve with more affleticism and dat upside.

Some possible good news as Sanders has a chance to play as early as Week 5 if his rehab goes well:

Broncos placed LB Drew Sanders (Achilles) on the active/PUP list.
The report comes from NBC Houston’s Aaron Wilson, who notes the Broncos also moved S Caden Stearns (patellar tendon) and S Delarrin Turner-Yell (ACL) to the active/PUP list. Sanders ruptured his Achilles tendon in late April. Initial reports suggested the team was hopeful he could return before the 2024 season ends. His move to the active/PUP list, rather than the reserve/PUP list, is a positive step in this regard. Should he remain on the active/PUP list entering the regular season, he will be eligible to return against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5.

Drew Sanders pretty much underwent a racial apprenticeship his rookie season despite being a finalist for the Dick Butkus award as college football's best linebacker his final season at Arkansas, then suffered a ruptured Achilles that cost him almost the entirety of the '24 season. The Broncos are still high on him and are going to keep him at ILB, where he can be an elite tackling machine. They also have Alex Singleton coming back from a torn ACL, and Cody Barton, who is a free agent. Two articles:

The Denver Broncos made it clear at last week's NFL Combine that Drew Sanders will be a permanent part of the linebacker room in 2025, especially with Cody Barton and Justin Strnad both set to be unrestricted free agents next week and Alex Singleton (knee) coming off an ACL injury. Head coach Sean Payton and general manager George Paton said Sanders will work this offseason at inside linebacker, and they have high expectations for him. "We think Sanders can be a starter in this league at linebacker," Paton said. It doesn't mean the Broncos won't add to the position in free agency, though, and Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Zack Baun and Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton could be targets for the Broncos. Baun was a former draft pick when Payton was with the Saints, so he could be the big free-agent splash Denver makes this offseason. https://www.rotoballer.com/player-news/broncos-have-high-expectations-for-drew-sanders/1567307

Drew Sanders is one of the more interesting figures on the Broncos roster as he prepares for his third pro season. He played both inside and on the edge as a rookie — he moved outside when the Broncos needed some help there — and then had his second season impacted in a major way by a spring Achilles tear. When he returned, he first appeared to be set to return to outside linebacker. But by the time Sanders was ready to play, Denver’s edge group had become a strength and the inside linebacker group was struggling and had lost Alex Singleton for the season to a torn ACL.

This offseason, head coach Sean Payton and general manager George Paton have committed Sanders to inside linebacker. That’s the opposite of this time last year.

Sanders is a terrific athlete, possessing the kind of size and range Denver has lacked in the middle of the field. Still, he hasn’t shown he can play inside full time. Heading into free agency, the three inside linebackers on the roster are Sanders, Singleton (still months away from being cleared to return) and 2024 undrafted rookie Levelle Bailey. Could Singleton and Sanders be the Broncos’ regular pairing in 2025? Definitely. But it’s far from a sure thing. That’s why it will be fascinating to see whether Denver aggressively pursues an inside linebacker in free agency. Payton was part of the group that drafted Philadelphia All-Pro Zach Baun to New Orleans back in 2020. Denver’s seen a whole lot of Nick Bolton the past four years in Kansas City. There are other quality options that will hit free agency next week, too. They could also address the position in the draft. https://www.denverpost.com/2025/03/04/broncos-mailbag-drew-sanders-wildcard-sean-payton/

Well Baun is off the board. Resigned with the Eagles. Hoping Bolton signs elsewhere to clear the way for Drew to have a healthy and productive season.

Broncos sign poly DB Talanoa Hufanga to a 3 year 45 million dollar deal. He has had one good season - 2022 where he played in all 17 games. These past two seasons he has played in 10 and 7 games respectively. To his credit he has 7 career INTs. Seems he is being paid based off of his one healthy season in 2022. Hard to imagine a White DB getting a contract like this.
