Kircus' game line is now 5/122/1. Could well be the best performance by any receiver in a preseason game. With Ashley Lelie (stupidly) getting his wish to be traded, Javon Walker not a sure thing coming back from a blown out knee, and Rod Smith not getting any younger, it's possible Kircus could play a significant role for the Broncos. Mike Shanahan has underused quite a few white receivers, but he did turn Ed McCaffrey into a starter well into his career, which paid huge dividends. Maybe he'll give Kircus a chance at the #3 position.
I am really rooting for Kircus, I think its fitting he is wearing 87 and I think he may find his niche in Denver. I believe he is only 26 so he is young and seems real focused.
i love it when a white guy burns the DBs for a long touchdown, because it is so incredibly hard for the announcers to describe it.
as my brother likes to say, i guess his route was really precise as he ran that far. his precision over the length of the field must have befuddled his more gifted opponents.
the corner supposedly covering Kircus couldn't have hit him with a rock, and the safety who looked to have the angle got embarassed as he almost fell down trying to chase David down. Kircus looked like he was coasting the last 20 yards...
Finally some great news.David Kircus has won the number 3 wide receiver spot. This is great news. It's funny how he wasn't even good enough for the Lions to barely play the guy.He has outplayed everyone on the Broncos.Even the coach has praised his break away speed and incredible hands.Way to go "Circus" Kircus!
I was reading the pre-season stats to a co-worker (an NFL enthusiast) for the former subway employee, including his 84 yard TD, and also mentioned he was cut by Detroit last year. He just started shaking his head and without any sort of a clue said "How does someone like that slip through the cracks"
The Broncos have a very old number one receiver. It is very possible that Kircus could be a number 1 or 2 receiver by the end of this season. That would be great.I hope he can play in the mile high city as long as Ed McCaffrey did.Kircus is a class act.
I checked the stats for the Denver - Kansas City game for this evening and saw that Kircus had one catch for 38 yards. To date he has only 7 catches, but his YPCis a whopping 22.8 !
Bart:
Speaking of Kansas City, they should be trying really hard to sign Kircus and Matt Jones. The Chiefs do not have a receiving core in any shape or form. Both of the men can really stretch the field and you have a former quarterback to boot. Talk about being able to frustrate defenses....
yeah it weas a weird week like that... Kircus and Clark were called fast. so no more fast or quick white players till 2009 as far as announcers are concerned.
I've always found Madden to bit more supportive of white players than most TV announcers. I remember him being quite complementary about Mark Kelso on T.V. - a player who other announcers were always quite derisive of.
Regarding the Chiefs they have has a lot of white receivers on their books over the last ten years but don't seem to give them much of a chance.
Rod Smith will keep his job until he retires or has a bad injury and Kircus plays alot better in "fill in time." Coaches have to find an excuse to replace a respected black veteren...When McNair was traded to Baltimore b/c of injuries, age, and disagreements with management on his team on his contract, Ray Lewis still tried to play the race card..
"Would a good old white QB like Farve be treated this way?"
Kircus was demoted behind rookie Brandon Marshall some weeks ago and is now fourth on the depth chart. Rod Smith has slipped a lot this season and should be ready to move on to his next job, but "respected" black receivers are often allowed tohang onfor years after they're washed up. I hope I'm wrong but I can't see Kircus being in the NFL in '07 after having just 8 receptions this year. Not saying it's his fault, but he will be easy to cut for good.
