Cooper Flagg

To be clear, I am definitely not saying he is now in the same category as Bird. He has a long, long way to go for that comparison as far as achievements. I am thinking in terms of general skill set. Dunleavy is a good comparison, but Flagg is further along at this point. I believe Dunleavy was the 3rd pick in the draft.
Yes, I understand what you're asking. I was saying Bird was a complete player by the time he entered the NBA. However, he was 23 years old. As you know Flagg just turned 18 and may have to endure the pressures of possibly becoming the number one draft pick at 18 years old when he should be getting ready to graduate HS.
He has all the tools to become a great player, but only time will tell. Personally, I think these kids rush things too much. IMO he should have stayed in HS and played at Duke at least 2 years if not graduate. Although he seems to be developing quickly right before our eyes, you just never know how they're going to react when they get into the Association, especially at just 18 years of age.
I would love to see him become a HOF and NBA Champion someday!

Larry was much more athletic when he was young and healthy than people gave him credit for.. he also didn’t have access to modern nutrition, workouts etc not to mention diving on the floor for loose balls and brawling with the brothers every other game. Here is a near Flagg type dunk from Bird.

I agree he needs to stay another year and fill out his frame or he could be setting himself up for failure. . A lot of white boys are late bloomers compared to other races. I doubt it will happen though. Obviously going to be pulling for him regardless.

Seen that one before. Yes that was a sweet dunk by Larry.

Yeah it most likely won't happen to him. He's not really a late bloomer. He's already NBA-ready at the tender age of 18, like Doncic was at that age.

I watched the Pitt and ND game, Flagg is special.. If any of you haven’t seen him yet, record all Duke games. They have Kon Knueppel also. A freshman starter. I read up on KK, his mom and dad played high level hoops. His dad had three brothers that would play three on three tourneys as the flying Knueppel brothers, how cool is that? Their mom has a maiden name with two A’s in it. Very Nordic. We need more white Americans.....Here are two....

Yes. Rocky B. I posted on the BB HS prospects about his Knueppel's 4 younger brothers. The next one Kager, is a HS Sophomore and has received his first D-1 offer from Toledo. Kager is already 6'8. Taller and longer than Kon.

Awesome. You’d think with all of those flying uncles, there’d be a bunch of Knueppel cousins running around...Maybe there are.

This is the awesome picture of Flagg currently (surprisingly) on Weenieworld's fantasy homepage. Tried to save it so I could post it in a much bigger version but can't get it to show up here except like this.

Salute the Flagg Dunk of the year so far⁉️ @marchmadnessmbb cooper_flagg @dukembb

cooper just took an elbow to the face from a brutha after scoring
Flagg finishes with 28 points, 5 rebound, 4 assists and 2 blocks.
Knueppel struggled. Going 0-5 and no points scored. Duke crushes BC 88-63.
I didn't see not one white player for BC. Surprising!

This is a nice article on Cooper Flagg and his childhood hero.

Nice article Booth. Great to see a current great young player who knows who "The Legend" was. No wonder Flagg leads Duke in all five major categories, points, rebounds, assists, steals and I think he still leads or is tied in blocked shots. Larry is in most people's all time starting five at small forward. If not for injuries, he could've been the greatest all-round player of all time. Averaged a double/double for his career.
He was not only a great player, but made everyone around him better.
Flagg is a great college player, but it remains to be seen if he can become a great NBA player. I wish he would slow it down some and spend another year or two in college. He's going to be in the NBA in less than six months at only 18! I hope he's some kind of prodigy that can make an immediate impact on the right team.
He'll be in action at nearby Winston-Salem against Wake Forest today at 4:30. I wish my daughter was still cheering at Wake Forest. I could've gotten great tickets.

Cooper Flagg leads Duke to a hard-fought win against Wake Forest. Duke was down by six with about 8 minutes left in the game, but Flagg made a three and another field goal and hit his free throws. Not to mention made some great assists to his teammates and Duke won 63-56.
Flagg finished with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
Kon Knueppel had 15 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists.
Great test for Duke as they are now 9-0 in the ACC and 17-2 overall.

Flagg in action again tonight against NC State in Durham. NC State starts two honkeys, Clemson transfer Ben Middlebrooks and Stanford transfer Michael O'Connell. Shouldn't be a close game and Flagg should have a great game depending how long he plays. Also, Kon Knueppel will one to watch coming off of a 15/9 game against tough Wake Forest. But, you never know what can happen in The ACC. Game time on ESPN 8:30.

Thanks Carolina Speed. We never have to check espn when you almost always let us know when Cooper Flagg is playing. :) It's an honor to watch this kid play. Imagine how many young white basketball players will want to be the next Cooper Flagg! Hope he has a huge game!

I did a Google search and someone posted the last white American to go #1 overall was Kent Benson in 1977. It’s been awhile!

Chet Holmgreen was so close to being number 1 a couple of years ago. No doubt Cooper Flagg will be the 1st pick in the NBA Draft!

You're welcome white lightning! NBA players like Tyler Hero, Austin Reaves, Chet Holmgren, Reed Sheppard, Dalton Knecht and now Cooper Flagg have given me a new interest in college and the NBA...and there are others foreign and domestic, but it's the US born players that have really got my interest up. Flagg could really take the white US born uptick to another level. Of all the players coming through Flagg has got the most potential and that's not taking anything away from the others, but he has it all.
I'm so thankful for you, WL and all the other posters here who do MUCH more than I do!
I'm missing Leonardfan's posts BIGTIME!! We need him back!

I watched Duke for the first time tonight to see Flagg. Only had time to see the first half and unfortunately Duke came out flat against North Carolina State before taking over the game in the second half. Flagg also started slowly before ending up with nice stats. I did see a great monster dunk though.

Has Flagg started to get the hate treatment yet that all really good White Duke players have received, or is still too early in his career?

Yeah, probably the worst half I've seen Flagg play. He typically comes out a little slow, but quickly gets it going, usually. He didn't get it going until the second half last night scoring 23 second half points and finishing with 28 points, 7 boards, 3 assists and a couple of blocked shots. The way NC State came out throwing up 3's and making them was unusual for them. They were 9-10 coming into this game, but Duke is going to get everyone's best shot as they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. It's the second time in as many games a very young Duke team has come from behind to win. Duke was down by as many as 13 points in the first half! Kon Knueppel finished with 19 points and 6 boards.
Don, interestingly, I haven't seen the typical fan hatred of White Duke players on Flagg just yet, however they still have to go to Chapel Hill later this year. The play them at home on Saturday.

I think Flagg will be immune to the historical Duke-hate. He is getting talked about positively by the “brothers” after he more than held his own during the run up to the Olympics.

He also won’t be at Duke long enough to generate the hatred. Perhaps this is a slight change in caste system indoctrination among the masses where a homegrown white man will be the #1 pick in the draft and also be generally approved of by media, black players and DWFs. One can hope.
