Adding to your sentiments, I think the DWFs need to be broken out of their addiction. Just like other vices, including but not limited to drinking, gambling, drug use, over eating, pornography and video games, football has a negative effect on these people’s lives. It channels natural things like tribalism and masculinity and redirects it to worshipping other men (mostly black) engage in pseudo-battles. Without college football, these White men could utilize these emotions and instincts towards more productive means.
So with that said, I am glad that college football is getting shutdown. In fact, I want the other conferences to follow suite and would argue that it’s most important that the SEC and ACC close shop. These conferences arguably have the most conservative fan base as they make up the “red” states in the southeast part of the country. The amount of time, money, energy and passion wasted by these right-leaning White men over decades of integrated football is unfathomable.
I really think the decision makers (school presidents?) who are voting to “shut it down”, and are likely overwhelmingly very liberal, are really making a huge mistake. Taking the opiate away from the masses is a shortsighted reaction, that politicization of this relatively harmless virus necessitated. The liberal bourgeoisie are not going to like the reaction when the proletariat realize they don’t need or miss college football as much as they thought.
I didn't want to be that guy of "burn it all down" we here enjoy our sports, but I live my own life and will get by easily enough without TV sports. Though truth be told I am rather enjoying the racing NASCAR has put on even if I have to completely tune out literally everything but the going around in circles part of the whole circus. If I could wave a magic wand I would trade the NFL season for CFB anyway, something has changed within the last few years but even ESPN is watchable coverage for CFB. I can even listen to Herbstreet or Finebaum of all people, but the talking head shows for the NFL are intolerable dreck. Anyway the site is going away and I'm moving on, maybe now me and Boomerwife can pull the cable so ESPN can lose another 9 dollars a month in revenue.
