You cant progress with same method of training,at a moment you will stagnait and then you will go back if you dont change something. Was clear at first time when he cracked 10 seconds he must improves his first part of race if he want to be a top dogg or he can continue in this way and will be maximum a finalist and a 10.0x sprinter and maybe with luck in a perfect race with good condition a high 9.9x. In 2013 he must do better than this year and i think he will do. First step will be in winter season-spring season in indoor race. If he beat his pb and get close to a 6.50 on 60 will be a very good start,that will mind he make some progress who give him and us hope for future

It is true that when I see the others, it makes me laugh even when I compare myself. They have amazing muscles. I am much thinner, but it has never prevented me from running fast.Fortunately. Maybe if I take a little, I will be more explosive at the start and I'll better put into action, but does that make me run faster throughout the race, I do not know ...

I think when he says take a little in his broken English, he means take some muscle for himself/aka add some to help with better starts.

There's no way hes talking about losing weight haha, he cant afford to

What concerns me most about Mister Lemaitre is that he looks like he could get stronger but he probably will not. I think everyone knows that one buddy that eats 6 times a day and his metabolism just kills it all. Yes I am jealous. I almost have this erie feeling that Christophe will never be able to get bigger than his frame already allows.
Lemaitre is still slated to run in the French championchips on February 16th and 17th. He has stated depending on his performance he and coach Carraz will decide if he runs in Goeteborg in the indoor world championchips.

Well, it's interesting to hear what Lemaitre has to say.....but it will be much much more interesting to see what he will do!

oh, talking about a little muscle. For some reason it sounded like he was thinking of taking a little "something" aka peds but I figured that couldn't be, even it was he wouldn't publicly admit to it.

I confirm he was talking about muscles, not taking drugs (he wasn't talking to french Oprah ;) ), it's not his broken english because ITW was in french, the translation is from google translate; in french we don't "put on muscles" but "take muscles", and "a little bit" is mistranslated to "something"

Terrible time!
Last year he opened the season with times of 6.57 and 6.59.
The season before he was even faster.

The writing is on the wall..... unfortunately.

And we thought last year was bad. Lemaitre and Carraz are just floundering now. The list of mediocre no-name runners who smoked LeMaitre from both heats is frightening.

I don't want to get into the same game as last year, where meet after meet CL put up dreadful embarrassing times and people kept posting excuses (it was always too cold or something) even though it was obvious that he'd had a dreadful offseason of training and was much slower than the previous year. He didn't manage one fast time at any distance, indoor or out last year. And now this year looks worse. So much for the theory (floated by so many) that he simply needs to lift weights (which he is allegedly doing now). His best shot now is to grow a pair, endure the pain of training for the long sprints, and see if he can make it as a 400 runner.

Or to specialize in the 200 if he doesn't have some niggles that he isn't making public. Give him some time yet before the hand wringing and knashing of teeth begins.

True. People have been calling him to hit the weights and the result is here. Lifting heavy weights doesn't make one great sprinter, I know this from experience. Weight training for sprints doesnt suit everyone, it tends to make some people stiff and Christophe's running here certainly looked stiff. Atleast the weight training should be incorporated into training regime very carefully.I think Christophe should concentrate on his strong qualities (long stride, quick ground contact and the overall easiness of his running) which certainly are not strength related.

Lemaitre looked tight and stiff, and didn't run smoothly or easily.

I think, that Christophe has more muscles than before ... but it makes him slow .... he has problems to move his own muscles

Some guys can't gain muscle and retain speed. In football Randy Moss is built like Lemaitre and was viciously fast for years and is now decent speed wise. I recall David Boston gaining 20 pounds+ on a crazy PED routine and he became slow and immobile. If he has Carraz supervising his weight training he is going to have problems. He needs the head of the French training staff.

He will lean up a little more and he should be fine come May or June. I'm frustrated but you guys give up on him way too soon. This kid is a legend and he will not take finishing 6th lightly. You forget how competetive he is. PepeLeFlew will be back!

There are always excuses with Lemaitre - early in the season, his start etc...Everyone else starts their season sub 6.6 and this guy regresses every year, even further.

as far as the weight training, I am curious to know his strength levels rather if his arms or chest grew larger. Gaining significant muscle without much strength (this can happen if not trained correctly) will slow you down. Strength to bodyweight ratio is the key. If he improved 20-30 pounds in the bench or squat while gaining 3-5 pounds of muscle, he is going to get even slower. He needs more power at his weight than muscle size. I bet Carraz has Lemaitre doing 10-15 reps of weightlifting. THAT WONT MAKE YOU POWERFUL! It will make you muscular without power, that is it. Lemaitre needs a power/olympic lifter workout, while maintaining his added bodyweight in the 5-10 pound range.
I think Carraz may need to retire. At least we have Tumi from Italy and Angel from Spain to look forward to. Lemaitre is done. God bless him for breaking the sterotype, but I dont see any more improvement from this guy.

On to Angle from Spain...He is looking real good, real improvement Maybe, possibly he can go under 10.00. Has the long stride with good power. We shall see

Randy Moss was never a big weightlifter but was known to squat close to 400 pounds on a smith machine with his lean muscular frame. Lemaitre probably cant even do 250. It seems Lemaitre is training to be muscular, not powerful. Big difference.

I seen that video, doesn't say much at all (showboating for cameras etc). 10 Reps could be the start of a warmup...Bolt generally has a lot of natural strenght. I seen and played with many guys like this, dont need to lift heavy because they have great natural strength. Lemaitre, has been confirmed over and over, is not strong. Not sure at what level he is at now, very curious. But people are different. Someone like Lemaitre who has great natural speed, but very low strength, will need heavy power/weightlifter type of training to pass the plateau. It has nothing to do with his chest and arms being a few inches larger. It is the strength to body-weight ratio that is the key. Maybe, like someone here said, his body needs to get used to it. But every year he starts slower and slower and everyone else starts faster. Not a good sign.
