It’s not a nationalistic, France vs America issue.

French mentality and American mentality are very very different

American mentality = body-bulding with highly intensive training
French mentality = body-bulding with moderate intensity

Like Pierre Carraz, Jacques Piacenta french trainer of Marie José Perec and Christine Arron didn't like body-bulding intensive training

Perec = 10.96(100M), 21.99 (200M), 48.25 (400M), 53.21(400MS)
Arron = 10.73(100M), 22.26(200M)

If body-bulding = speed, then aikinnes would be world record holder but he's not !

From now on, Christophe is more developed the muscle than 2011, and he's not faster

Christophe's problem is not about body-bulding, it's a problem of feelings with his new body

Great post RCSman. I may not always agree with you but I think you nailed it this time.

Caraz who was a hero 3 years ago is now the worst trainer on earth :)

Christophe does not need to go to the Usa, he won't improve there, none of the french athlets that went there did better performance than when they were trained by a french coach. Not the same mentality at all....

He reached a plateau and is not as good as 2011, it's obvious, doesn't mean he is over.

For the Zeldagiss guy that talk about mediocrity, what are your accomplishments in track and field ? We all want to know your level and your skills...

Mediocrity? heheh, you are very very wrong
You should to read my posts before that you talk stupid things :yo:

Bodybuilding??

Who the hell said anything about bodybuilding??

If bodybuilding was the answer, then Arnold S. would've been sub 10 in the 70s.

Try power training, like the kind Frenchman Jimmy Vicaut does.

It's like Zell says, learn how to read.

Stronger muscles will make a fast man faster. There is so much mythology and bro science out there about weight training for sports it's amazing. You cannot build "power" separately from strength. Lemaitre needs to get stronger, which will make him faster. The most muscled guy won't necessarily be the fastest, but increasing the strength of the muscles will make an individual faster. It's one important component, but only one.

Lemaitre can build more strength in his legs, which will give him more power out of the blocks. Strength plus technique equals success. How much bulk he puts on will be largely determined by his genetics (assuming he doesn't start using like his opponents do).

Cam down, I made a mistake with you and Elispeedster...

3 years and counting of constant regression....how blind can you be not to see this...

I never made this a America vs France issue, RCSMAN did! I only suggest what is the harm for Lemaitre to train with Elite coaches and Elite partners? Mix it up and try something different...No one pushes Lemaitre in training to run faster. He trains with an amateur club for crying out loud!

Regarding the IGNORANT RCSMAN, there is no bodybuilding, where did I ever suggest body building!
This RCSMAN fool always has answer, says look at Harry Aikens, he is big and strong why is he not faster....maybe beacuse Aiketns does not have that kind of speed! When did Harry ever run sub 10 or sub 20 more than once? We are all built differently! Lemaitre has the advantage of natural top end speed and combine that WITH A STRONG TO BODY WEIGTH RATIO he will run faster! Again: Strength and the start (1st 30 meters) is much easier to fix, this is has been proven. Look it up

I think Carraz has Lemaitre doing exercise to build muscle definition, not power....I don't care if Lemaitre turns to skin and bones as long as his strength to body weight ratio is high, then he will have a more explosive start.

AGAIN: THE START IS THE EASIEST TO FIX!....This is why you will find sub 6.5 60 meter guys like Kilty, but cant crack 10.1 in the 100 - they are fast but don't have the natural top end speed. Same with Dwain Chambers, the year he ran 6.42 only managed 1 sub 10 (9.98)....combine power(easy to fix) with natural top end speed(not easy to fix) and you will have a complete sub 10 sprinter...nothing will change with Lemaitre, it is too late he missed his boat. Caraz's old fashioned amateur methods messed up this one in a lifetime talent.

I dont think it is the strength in the legs regarding Lemaitre, I think it is more of the torso/shoulder....A explosive start can be benefited with a stronger upper body. I learned this in high school during football training for the 40 yard dash. Also strong shoulders help keep the body balanced and help drive the legs.

Can we at least all agree that Lemaitre has to do something different going forward?
Or do some people still believe that he need not change anything?

"Arnold S" schwarzy was a sprinter ?

.:hail: I'm very impressed, a lot people here know by heart the program of training of Christophe and Jimmy.
GIVE US MORE DETAILS PLEASE !!! :photo:

It's stupid to compare Christophe and Jimmy, it's not the same morphology

I agree he has gained size in his thighs but his upper body is still like a high school underclassman. Even with his lack of size he should still be able bench and do decent totals in the snap and dead lift because of his naturally explosive muscles. I have a feeling he may become a 200 meter specialist in the next year or two, but even here he is up against to make the podium at a major as Gemilli is now ahead of him with Bolt and maybe another Jamaican....

for what it's worth, i saw the video compilation posted earlier which had a brief snippet of Christophe doing a clean and jerk. it appeared that he was working out with 95 pounds (or perhaps 115 if he was using a denser weight plate than normal). there are numerous women in the CrossFit Box i work out in who clean and jerk MUCH more than that …

for a world class athlete, and he is one without a doubt, to not be stronger than that is stunning. adding explosive power would certainly help his biggest area of struggle: his starting burst.

Yes, I seen that, and even seen a video of him doing squat jumps holding 10 pound dumbbells. Its bizarre considering his level of Athleticism... he is as strong as a little league baseball player. It makes no sense.

Distance runners lift more weight than he does...but alas Carraz and RCSMAN the Great knows best.

Continued regression 3+ years and counting....no need for change...nah!

These results don't surprise me at all.
When I looked at the start lists, I said to myself Lemaitre would finish 5th, and he did.
But the time does surprise me. Very slow even with a negative wind.

Yes RC, Jimmy lifts weights, IN FRANCE (not America) of allplaces!!

And the point is not that he lifts, it’s how he lifts.Lifting for power and explosiveness is different than bodybuilding.Bodybuilders strive to increase volume by repeatedly pumping blood into theirmuscles.

Did you catch that? Jimmy is NOT BODYBUILDING. He’s liftingweights for power (in France, did you get that, IN FRANCE).

Jimmy has less natural talent than Lemaitre, yet has passedLemaitre up because he is training effectively for sprinting.

The Arnold comment was sarcasm based on your stupid, repeated referral to bodybuilding (but you missed that). Oh well.

Im not surprised in his time neither.
Perhaps a little bit faster but not very much.
Wind and weather were bad conditions for everybody, perhaps he could to be a little closer to Ujah, only it.

Lemaitre normal race, not very bad.

you are stupid.

It was just a problem of translation.

French word is "musculation" and my translator translated this word by "body building" instead of "lifting weights"

I'm so sorry my dear

He had a perfect reaction time of 0.114sec and his first 40m was very good but then he lost his concentration and destabilized(?) or fatigue kicked in and had for the first time a bad last 50m.... that's a first .

In France we speak french so english is not our mother tongue so maybe you should calm down and understand that Rcsman used a wrong word to describe the same thing as you....

We all agree Lemaitre did not improve, and I admit he has regressed, but elitespeeder that talks about mediocrity, it's a shame. 10'13 and 20'08 is far from mediocrity, and we should have respect for all athlets whatever their levels, especially when we haven't acomplished anything.

I'm pretty sure none of us is able to run a 100m under 11sec btw

For Christophe, what can we say ? He and his coach know perfectly that he is not as fast as before, they tried but he did not work.

Will he change coach ? Will it be better considering Christophe seems to be very atatched to Carraz? I don't know.

I understand we are all sad to not see him doing like before but it's probably way harder to accept for him

Let s cross fingers that next year will his.

Sad is the right word for most here. It's just like we have said countless times. When many of us here at the board love the kid so much, it's just hard to see him go backwards. He is not in neutral anymore. He is in full reverse. Even his coach would have to admit this. So my advise has always been to bring a few other advisors on board. Guys that know how to acheive explosive power through weights and plyometrics. Keep Caraz on to keep Christophe happy. Just give him a support group of an assistant coach or a few to help get the kid back on track before it is too late. The life of an athlete is short. The life span of a elite sprinter is usually even shorter. No time to waste.

We love Christophe as if he is our own kid. We only want what is best for him. Good luck to him in 2015. No one outside of his family would be happier to see him winning again than me. I'm one of his biggest fans on earth. Right now he just relax and enjoy some time off. Heal his body and mind for a month or two and then get back to work. Looking forward to next season especially with it being the world championships.
