Jesse Lumsden is faster, has better vision (for cut backs) and power and seems seems to have a quicker burst. Lumsden has about an equal ability to juke defenders in the open feild (which to me is neither's strength; both are better at outrunning you, bulling you over, or in Leonard's case going over you
). Leonard has better hands and is a little better in the passing game, but I think Lumsden has the ability to get better in this area especially since the CFL is a passing league. To me Lumsden translates to Steven Jackson in the NFL.
Sam McGuffie is another guy who could be a top 5 RB in the NFL, based on potential, (McGuffie also has LT type moves in the open field). It is still early to tell for McGuffie and he needs to improve his power.
Kyle Bell is also better than Leonard to me, b/c Bell's punishing style is off the charts. Bell has a lot of Alstott in him as far as power. I'd say Bell would be a top 10 RB in the NFL if given the chance and if he recovers from injury. Other guys I have seen, who didn't get a chance like Brock Forsey, Tre Smith, Dan Burks, are also right up there with Leonard to me. And as we know there are lots that get slotted out in college (ie. Tim Shaw) or have to play for Div. 1A or 2 (ie. Kyle Steffes, John Englebert) that I never got to scout.
I think Leonard benefited from the hype of the NY area market and helping the rebuilding of one of the worst programs in Div 1 football that happens to be a huge NJ state University. It also helped that he had his own signature move the Leonard leap and became very popular.
