He "only" had a two year racial apprenticeship whereas it lasts up to four years for many overachievers at his position. But he played at a tiny college, went undrafted and by the time he began to see regular playing time he was already 26. That's one of the reasons names like Alworth, Maynard and Largent are on there but no White receivers since, they get started too late when they do get to start.
