The weather has been so horrible for the NCAA East Champs. Just glad Boling is back in the Nat's Champs despite some
struggles. He will be fine in my honest opinion. No need to do get hurt. Just qualify and then go for it at the nationals.

I feel bad for Cole Beck. Barely missed in the 100 and now in the 200 meters he was 2/100ths of a second from making the national championships in the deuce. Tough luck but he has one year left of track since he is a junior.

Pumped to hear about Millers time. Man a 20.44 is really flying and especially for Div. 2 Champs!

Shae Anderson goes in the womens 400m quarterfinals, she is a very tough heat and will have to PB or better to move on. Good luck to her! Prefontaine Classic has a good hj start list for the women, Ingebritsen goes in the Bowerman mile and Prandini in the womens 200m.

Simon Ehammer, a decathlete from Switzerland, long jumped 8.30 meters yesterday (27ft, 2-3/4")
That's 2nd longest in the world this year, and also a national record and a decathlon record. Pretty amazing considering he's not a long jumper.

Meanwhile, the 3rd longest jump this year is Emiliano Lasa of Uruguay.
The world leader at the moment is a guy from India.

Simon Ehammer has done it again!
He jumped 8.45 at a big decathlon meet in Austria. That's 27 feet and 8.68 inches!
As before, it's a decathlon record, a national record, and the longest jump of the year by anyone!
Incredible talent!

What is most amazing about his superstar long jumping ability is that he is not a fast sprinter. He has
great athletecism overall but his speed is probably his biggest weakness overall. How this young man can
jump that far without the speed of the majority of long jumpers is mind boggling. It makes his jumps even
more amazing. If he could become a little better sprinter in his run up who knows what he could do in the
long jump? It's fun to think about! Congrats to Simon Ehammer again!

I will add that Simon Ehammer did break his p.b. in the 100 today with a 10.46 so that's a step
in the right direction and he is only 22 years of age.

Trevor Bassitt won the 400m hurdles at the NCAA II Championships.
He went under 49 second barrier, running 48.98.
He probably could have won the 400m as well if he ran it.

Brandon Miller followed up his 20.44 from the heats, with a winning time of 20.20 (2.3w) at the NCAA II Championships.
Congratulations to Brandon Miller, NCAA Champion! . . . and still just a freshman!

The United Kingdom (England) continues to have young sprinting talent year after year. Both black & white sprinters.

22 year old Joe Ferguson ran a new p.b. of 10.25 today. He just turned 22 on May 3rd so he is very young. He shows alot
of talent and I do believe he is one to keep an eye on in the near future.

loads of speed certainly helps with distance but not everybody can harness it when jumping.
Our best jumper Mitchell Watt (8.54m) ran 10.31 while our 2nd best, Jai Taurima (8.49) , silver in Sydney 2000, never bettered 10.79.
Fabrice Lapierre (10.56) did 8.40m so about the same ratio speed V jump length as Ehammer just showed us.
Then we have Henry Frayne doing 8.34m with a measly 10.99/100 - you'd think more speed would help him a lot because he can certainly use that very mediocre speed to good advantage.
All very interesting. Would be the basis of great study

Abby Steiner runs a time of 11.04 -0.2 wind to advance to the NCAA National Championships. It was the 2nd fastest
time of the day. She will run the 200 meters in a little over an hour from now.

Yes Abby Steiner had the fastest time of anyone in the 200 meters running a 22.01 but the wind was 2.1 so it won't count. Talk
about bad luck as that would have been a new p.b. She is so close to going sub 22 which very few women have ever done!

German Sprinter Kevin Kranz opened up his outdoor season with a new p.b. of 10.18 +0.7!

Talk about turning on the jets! Brandon Miller should be in Division 1 but maybe it's better this way. It will help to build his
confidence even more as he wins multiple championships while continuing to run faster & faster! Millers speed endurance is
off the charts. He is an amazing sprinter already as a freshman. If he continues to improve he may have a shot at making a
US Olympic Team in 4 years time! Congrats to Brandon Miller. One of the best comebacks all track season so far!

A new name, Robert McDonnell, just 20 yrs old from Ireland, ran 20.51 200m in Belgium today.
That makes him the 5th fastest European at that distance this year.

Robert McDonnell, from County Galway, Ireland, is actually still 19. He turns 20 on Tuesday. He looks like a skinny teenager. He has times of 10.43, 20.51 (as Jack from NYC mentioned), and 46.59 (last year when he was 18). Two years ago his best time in the 100 was 10.90. Says something about whites maturing later than blacks. McDonnell has made some news in Ireland, where coaches and training facilities are very limited and the cold, damp climate not conducive to sprinting.

I wonder what the steroid dynamics are for the long jump. In the 90s people were pushing well into the 28s and even the 29s.

I have no doubt when Tokyo 91' happened top long jumpers could get away with murder PED wise. But Carl Lewis might well have been the most talented long jumper in decades coupled with his obvious PED usage, Powell with his ability to compete and surpass Lewis was obviously doing something too.

Robert Emmiyan jumped 8.61 (28-2) in 1986. Robert had jumped over 25' when he was 16 year old. So, he was a prodigy. Whether he doped later, we'll probably never know. He hit an 8.86 (29-1/2) at altitude in 1987.

Tommy Ramdhan(English Sprinter) ran a 10.22 -0.7 wind yesterday. He is on track for a fine season. Ramdhan has personal best times of 10.16 and 20.34 and I expect him to break both of those records this summer!
