Ok it's a new year and time to start the track talk and discussion along with results for 2022. Here
is a good article on Femke Bol who has potential to break the hurdles world recod like Warholm did
last year. Femke Bol is just a once in a lifetime talent. I hope she continues to show the Europe and
the World what she can do! Bol won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics!

Aiden Murphy, the young Australian sprint find, matched his 200m PB, running a 20.64 this weekend.

I'm gonna make a prediction for a new sprinter to keep a close eye on. Simon Hansen is only 23 years of age and he runs for Denmark. Last year he
set new personal bests of 10.24 and 20.49. Both times were wind legal and the 200 meters was run into a slight negative wind. Hansen shows great
speed endurance and he is still young enough to make some major break throughs. One to watch in 2022.

I am very encouraged to see this result --- Tiaan Whelpton of New Zealand sped to his third fastest legal 100m of 10.43 (-2.5).
A good early season time especially considering the negative wind.

Excellent season opener. He would have easily broke his p.b. with no wind or a positive wind under the limit. I like tall sprinters and with we would see more tall guys
try out for the sprints. They just eat up the track with their stride length and they can make up for the slower starts on average.

At the same meet, Zoe Hobbs rans a wind-aided 11.14 (2.2) 100m.

At the same meet, Zoe Hobbs rans a wind-aided 11.14 (2.2) 100m.

Yes this is great to see. We finally have some young rising New Zealand Sprinters to watch. Australia has always gotten most of the glory due to better talent
overall. I like to root for both countries. Hopefully we can get some videos of both races. Exciting times down under with the exception the governments and
how they are treating the people.

A name I had never heard, Chris Mitrevski, ran a wind aided 10.21 (2.5w) in Australia.
That's pretty impressive, given that 1/ he's a long jumper, 2/ he hasn't run a 100m in several years, and 3/ it's very early in the season.

I'm curious to see if he will run more 100m races, and how much he might improve in the Long Jump.

Mitrevski ran another 100m, and won in a good time of 10.21 (1.0w).
He's looking like a contender for a spot on the Aussie 4x100m relay.
And still waiting to see if his long jumping will improve as well.

Great news about Aidan Murphy. The kid has the look of a future superstar. I think he will get into the low to mid 10.20's this year and then build off that base!

In America a guy we haven't mentioned here before should be watched in my opinion. Ryan Mullholand of Oregon. He is only a freshman. Yesterday he finished
3rd in the 200 meters races against Boling. Today he qualified in the heats of the 60 meters in the Razorback Invitational. He finished in 7th in the final but remember
that he is only a freshman just out of high school. Give this kid sometime and see what he can do. One to watch over the next 4 years as he gains strength.

His mum is an Australian lady of Sri Lankan heritage who ran 11.20s back in the late 1990s (Tania Van Heer).

Yeah I remember his mum. Unfortunately she was very injury prone, which destroyed her career.

About 10 years ago I read a book about Peter Norman- The Peter Norman Story. It was a great read about his background and growing up doing little athletics. Up until his late teenage years he was a fairly ordinary athlete at Victorian state level. He was doing sprinting whilst working as a butcher. Eventually he got into teaching. He had a hard life ever since his early 40s. Norman contracted gangrene after tearing his achilles tendon during a charity race, which nearly led to his leg being amputated. Depression, heavy drinking and pain killer addiction followed.

I didn't know some of that. Yes, after being a Salvation Army officer in his younger days he sort of lost his way

From South America; Emiliano Lasa of Uruguay jumped 8.18 (2.6w) and 8.10 (2.0w).

So the top 3 long jumpers this year are Ehammer of Switzerland (indoors), Boling (indoors), and Lasa (outdoors).

"Who has heard of young Cooper Sherman from Victoria?
I’d like to share his story with you all.
Running for Ballarat Harriers club….
This season, young Cooper Sherman has qualified for the World Juniors for both the 200m AND the 400m.
Cooper has just turned 17 years old, is coached by Neville Down and currently runs for Ballarat Harriers club, Victoria.
Let me explain why this kid is an exciting prospect.
Cooper has been involved in athletics since he was 9 years old.
At the start of this season he had not broken 50 seconds for the 400m.
But Cooper says he “never really took running seriously”
But when he turned 16 years old (only between 6-9 months ago) he said to himself “that’s it. I’m gonna start taking this thing seriously”
He then started training 3-4 days per week with his coach Neville Down, including doing additional strength and conditioning training.
In this short time frame, he has been RAPIDLY improving his times on the track.
His 200m World Junior qualifier and PB now stands at 21.11 seconds.
And his 400m world Junior Qualifier (PB) stands at 47.20 seconds!
He has also set a handy 100m personal best of 10.71 seconds.
Cooper is currently enrolled at St Patrick’s college Ballarat.
He used to play football and indoor/outdoor soccer, but dropped them both once he decided to take athletics seriously recently.
He works 10 hours a week part time while trying to do as well as he can in school as he has plans of getting into University/college.
Put Cooper Sherman on your radar ladies and gents - he is one to watch and is deserving of some recognition as we don’t want to lose this kid to another sport!

Happy to hear Browning is opening up his season. I'm glad they waited as it's a very long season. Indoors should not be that important to
Rohan or his coach as it's all about winning the Australian Championship again and making the World Champs later this summer.

It's good to see Henrik Larsson get his season off to a good start. He ran a 6.62 on Jan. 29th which is only .002 off his personal best indoors which
he set back in 2019. Larsson has not been the same since 2019 when he ran 10.20 wind legal outdoors as a 19 year old. Covid has derailed many careers
for the last few years. I hope we can see him back to from in 2022 and ready to break his personal bests both indoors and outdoors!

Thobias Montler of Sweden beat Miltiadis Tentoglou at an indoor meet in Europe today.
Montler jumped 8.21; Tentoglou jumped 8.15.

So at the moment, the 5 longest long jumpers in the world are white.

Kielbasinkska regains the fastest indoor 400 meters time in the world. She is an amazing and a very
talented sprinter.

Zoe Hobbs of New Zealand set a National 100m Record, in an excellent time of 11.15 (1.4).
