The draft is right around the corner and it looks grim. But I'm sucking a few down right now and given the state of the world---uh not too good--- what the hell time to get a little nuts. Why not inject a little sugar rush before the draft? Why not dream if only for a spell before the grim reality cones crashing down?
Wouldn't it be great if the caste playbook got thrown out and we end up with a wild draft with all sorts of unexpected white skill players getting selected? I'll rattle off some names that appear nowhere ( except here of course)--- S Austin Lee (see above post),WR John Hurst, WR Dalton Schoen, S/LB Austin Hall, WR Michael Dean, LB Drew Wiley and WR Kyle Haines. Add these names to all the players mentioned above today.
I just saw the most interesting and best mock seven round draft so far. By Chad Reuter. Downside no listing of WRs Chris Finke or Mason Kinsey.
But look at some of the names who do show up. TE Eli Wolf ( 4.4 speed) and Jordan Glasgow listed as a LB. A lot of the fringe players are listed before the 7th round including edge players Casey Toohill and Carter Coughlin. Tanner Muse is listed early in the 5th round. QB Shea Patterson, another fringe player is listed in the 6th.
But want a real mood booster? I am sure members Red raider and TwentyTwo will appreciate this one. Not yet discussed here mainly because strangely he was vaguely ignored his senior year when it looked like he was prepping for a big season. His stats at WR were 34-508 but he made a big mark on special teams. Reuter has him getting drafted in the 7th round. I speak of Eastern Michigan's Matthew Sexton. Long known as a speedy player for whatever reason his team ignored him his senior year which made zero sense.
He was timed Sexton at 4.38 on his pro day. No slower than a 4.44 but on film he flies. See below a write up on Sexton. And it is worth checking out Reuder's
refreshing seven round mock draft.
