I was looking at Warholm's progression. Last year around this time, he ran a 45.59 indoors. So he just shaved well over 5 tenths off of his PB.

if my info is correct, Payton Chadwick qualified for the NCAA Indoor Nationals in three events: the 60m hurdles, the 200, and the 4x400 relay. she was also named the South Central region Female Athlete of the Year. not too shabby for a “pole vaulter,” which is what the UA originally recruited her as.

Hi everyone,

My first post of the year. South African season well on its way. Our country is divided in provinces. Emile runs for Pretoria University(TUKS) in the Northern Gauteng province. We start with league meets in January and have a provincial championship in March with Nationals at the end of April.

Some news on Emile. Training is going very well, gained some weight in the off season to 235lbs (107kg) but is now back on his fighting weight 220lbs (100kg). He is classified as an elite athlete in South Africa and is exempt from league meetings. He will run his first race on 15 and 16 March at the Northern Gauteng Champs. They run 200m on the 15th and 100m on the 16th.He closed 2108 ranked no 2 in SA and 25 in the world.

He still studies civil engineering and passed 6 of his 7 subjects in 2018.

We have a competition called the Varsity Cup basically for students under 25 and one of his training partners ran for TUKS on Friday night and clocked 10.03 with a -0.8 wind. I think he is of Indian descent his name is Shaaid Matalala.

Will keep you updated on Emile's performance.

Yes Emile is quicker in training. Hoping it will flow through on the track

Payton Chadwick took third in a VERY close 60m hurdles final, then she turned around and took third in the 200 by .001 seconds (22.989 to 22.990), as well. it was a pretty good day of elite sprinting for a “pole vaulter,” i’m thinking.

Hey mastermulti. Question about Aussie Athletics. I thought Jack Hale was running this weekend? Maybe it's next weekend but I haven't seen anything about him or
Trey racing. Can you please update us here. Thanks.

Trae Williams was down to run in Qld champs this weekend - he didn't show and nowhere could I find out why. Jack Hale didn't run the Victorian champs and Rohan Browning and Josh Clarke have been nowhere to be seen so far this season. Their NSW champs were on this last weekend. Only Jack Hale has a time on the board out of all these guys. I'm disgusted. If they're all injured well, ok, but make it public. If not they are just hiding from each other and leaving 10.40 guys to win state champs.
I'll search hard this week and let you know if I find out anything

the Australian championships are to be held for a week come 1st April. Maybe they are playing cat and mouse till then - but why? Especially if they want a good time this season

I have a suspicion that Hale may have a slight hamstring niggle based on his last race.

On a fan based opinion, if healthy the boys and girls need to show up to these meets and run.

As a sprinter myself I know how hard it is to stay healthy for a season. Gotta pace yourselves and pick the spots to run, fans may get pissed but yah gotta do what yah gotta do.

One pet peeve of mine is having mic;d interviewers doing post race interviews immediately after the races. You can see that the athletes don't for the most part like it. Wait until they have gotten off the track and interview then.

"Hey Bob you just finished your 400m sprint how was it out there? Athlete Bob in his mind "kiss off arsehole, I can barely breathe and stand right now!!"

I'm very excited to see Emilie Erasmus break the sub 10 barrier. He will be remembered forever in the history books once he does this. There is still less than one handful
of white sprinters to accomplish this feat. It also can help to get him invited to the bigger meets to make more money. He can and will do it. We believe in him.

One word of advice though for Emiie. Consider moving to Australia. He would be as famous as Shirvo there with the times he is running. The weather is similar and it is
a great country to live in. Something to think about as a possiblity in the future. Either way I wish him nothing but the utmost success. Good luck Emilie!

re: Emile, WL. He gets funding as an elite South African athlete and is on the same time zones as Europe , one 10-12 hour plane trip away from their meets.
I don't think I'd consider Australia, except as a visiting athlete to compete in some bigger meets and enjoy a holiday for a few months.

My South African son-in-law has lived here for 6 years, no criminal record, worked the whole time here and pays tax, married to my daughter and they've had 2 children - still he is jumping through hoops to get citizenship. Last I heard he was awaiting his "invitation" to become a citizen.

Excellent points mastermulti and much appreciated. I just want to see Emilie Erasmus become more well known globally. He is an incredible talent and he could become a millionaire if he can just
run some sub 10's and be around that level semi consistantly. LIke I said before we are all here huge fans and can't wait to see him racing very soon!

didn't realize Hale was only 5'8 1/2" tall and only a 163lbs or so. He has big thighs for a little guy. Hope he breaks his PB.

Hale legal 10.20 100m, new PB by .01 in Perth. Green carded first start where his start was far better than his second, otherwise the 10.10 was there.

Similar to China’s Bingtian Su who is only 5’7 and something like 145lbs. Some of these shorter and lighter guys are doing really well right now!

he's 74 kgs now (163 lbs), a lot more muscular than when he joined coach Adam Larcomb 18 months ago. He was a mere whippet then so I guess his stalling times reflect having to carry that extra weight up the track.
Anyhow, even a slight PB is a PB and a confidence boost. Let's see what 3 weeks brings

Thinking back now, I was 145lbs (5'9") at 20 lol oh how the memory fades... I sure didn't run anywhere near 10.20, my fastest 100m was a bit slower hehe

I think he is on the verge of going 10.10 or better, starts permitting and of course the weather.

Interesting in how he walks, on the balls of his feet almost a spring motion, I walk very similarly, embarrasses the hell out of my daughters at times lol I guess us old guys aren't supposed to have a spring in our step. :b1:
