Earlier Gruden was saying that Thielen had 4.45 speed to go with his size. I think Adam is too talented that they can no longer ignore him or downplay his ability.

I want to put Gruden's comments about Thielen's speed in context. In an earlier post Don mentioned that the broadcast team of Gruden and McDonough were pretty good from a caste perspective and I agree. I have praised Gruden, who is my favorite NFL color man , time and again over the years. When Harrison Smith spectacularly broke up a pass Gruden was right on it praising Smith and his athleticism and instincts.
McDonough who is OK had one slip last night when referring to Thielen's difficult path to the NFL. He had mentioned "people" thought he was too small and too slow. Gruden did not jump on that comment but waited until Adam hauled in another lengthy pass before "setting the record" straight and alluded to his 4.45 speed and solid 6 foot 200 pound frame.
I have seen worse first NFL weeks but I wouldn't call it ace either although Thielen's performance was a welcome sight. He is becoming one of my favorite NFL players right up there with Jordy.
Kupp and CM were solid in their debuts and Switzer got his feet wet. We certainly hope to see goodies on the way from those skill players and with the Pack beating Seattle with Jordy having a decent game I can't really complain too much.
Bosa had a sack and a half last night and TJ Watt could be a superstar.

Listening to her is like hearing Bueller? Bueller? Ferris Bueller ringing in the ears over and over. When I hear her doing college games I hit mute instantly lol She should not be calling sports games of any type.

Put in perspective like that it wasn't a bad week after the New England-KC game on Thursday got things off to an ominous start. Defenses were ahead of offenses and other than KC's rookie RB going off on Thursday there weren't a lot of notable performances on offense.

She did a lot of Big Ten games that I've watched over the years. I actually like and respect her, believe it or not. She always called a good game. She did her homework and was very knowledgeable of both the game, the players, the coaches and other anecdotal info. She seemed very neutral in her compliments as well, giving credit where credit was due and criticism when appropriate, regardless of whether the player was black or White. She's one of the very few females that I think succeeded based upon merit not AA or having nice %*$%^& or #%%^*& or #$%^$@.

Yeah, she might not be cut out for high-profile NFL games, especially ones at prime-time. But when calling an Iowa vs Purdue game on ESPN during late Saturday mornings I thought she did very well...it's a bit different audience, I think. At least there was no element of cringe-worthy cucking like I noticed with some of the White male announcers while watching some of those Big Ten matches (which was a breath of fresh air) just straight up calling of the game. Some people hated Howard Cosell, some loved him. I understand of lot of this is very subjective depending on the individual.

Someone on another forum tried to start something about some old dead black guy* who was a football and baseball player who was also Jackie Robinson's teammate and such and such. The only purpose of that kind of "trivia" these days is to race-bait and stir up conflict.

*I love this phrase, after having to hear "old dead white guy" so many times.

Don't think it was mentioned but second year second round draft pick Adam Gotsis had 5 solo tackles against the Chargers, an excellent total for a defensive end in a 3-4. Gotsis was filling in for the injured Jared Crick and it won't be a surprise if he becomes the starter for good soon. Denver has the best group of White d-linemen in the league.

Has anyone mentioned Steelers DE/OLB Anthony Chickillo this week? He actually started at the other OLB spot with Tj Watt, and put up 6 tackles 1 tfl and 2 sacks! I knew about him but thought he was burried on the depth chart. When was the last time the Steelers of all teams had 2 whites with 2 sacks apiece in a game?

I knew about him but thought he was burried on the depth chart. When was the last time the Steelers of all teams had 2 whites with 2 sacks apiece in a game?

Speaking of steelers and twos, TE Jesse James had a pair of TDs as well! Hopefully Matakevich can get in on the action soon too! Only had the one snap of defence week one, plus 19 on special teams

I've loathed the Crawfords for years, but it's good to see the standout white players that they have now on the verboten DEFENSIVE side of the ball, where whites aren't allowed to even sniff on most teams. Not to mention future first-ballot Hall of Fame QB Big Ben Roethlisberger. At CF we've always lamented the fact the Ben has many time single-handedly propped the all-black Crawfords up, but he's still amazing to watch.

Chickillo was mentioned earlier in the thread. He always plays very well, but started because of an injury to Bud Dupree.
