Portuguese meltdown!

Pathetic half of football from Portugal. An obvious penalty for the first German goal caused by the defender getting turned by Mueller. Pepe sent off for a moronic head butt on Mueller. Contrao had a chance to score but for some reason tried to pass it. I think. I'm still not sure what he was trying to do. The Portuguese goalie Rui Patricio inexplicably caught out of position during a pass back, almost an own goal. Then he kicks it straight to Khedira who missed an open net. And then a defensive blunder by Bruno Alves to gift Germany their third goal.

The Germans look good, but any team would look good against the blundering Portuguese.

After scoring early on that gift penalty kick, it was nice to see Thomas Müller score a legitimate goal before the half. The 2010 co-Golden Boot winner now has 7 goals in two World Cup Finals appearances. Up 3-0 and with Portugal playing with 10 men, let’s hope that Klose, Schürrle, and Schweinsteiger sub-in at least.

Hopefully Portugal can regroup and destroy the U.S. and Ghana, finishing 2-1 in group play.

Pepe won't be eligible to play against the US as there is usually a two game suspension for a red card.

It's unfortunate for a player of Ronaldo quality to have so little back up on this Portuguese side.

I forgot to mention that Hugo Almeida had to be substituted (in part his own fault as he had the ball but was too indecisive with it, got tackled and injured as a result). Now Coentrao has gone off with a hamstring injury. A terrible day for Portugal can't get much worse. Maybe they should take Ronaldo off just in case he ends up getting hurt too.

I think so too, Thrashen!! It was awesome to see Muller get his hat trick!!

I know the announcers were surprised when they saw Ozil was starting, but we here all know Loew seems to need to keep 3 non-whites in the starting lineup at all costs it seems. At least Khedira and Ozil look white, and Ozil will likely be subbed off most of the games if he indeed continues to start.

I'd say Bedoya is pretty white, just as white as a lot of the Argentine players we've been counting as white.

We've been counting Dempsey as white for as long as I've been here... I think he just tans easily.

I knew he was; I've been counting him as white since before I even joined the site. Even though there's only 6 white starters, I'll be cheering for the USA against all-black Ghana; 6 white starters and a white bench is better than no white players at all.
