Edelman has somehow already re-injured his perpetually injured right foot, and now this.
Patriots waived/injured WR T.J. Moe. Moe's injury was not disclosed. An undrafted rookie out of Missouri, Moe could "redshirt" the 2013 season and return to compete for a job in 2014.
Don,
Despite initial reports, Edelman didn’t actually re-injure his foot in any offseason practice session; he supposedly had a “clean up procedure” from his December surgery that required a walking boot…
Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was still wearing a walking boot on his right foot tonight at Tom Brady's charity event at Harvard. Edelman underwent a clean-up procedure earlier in the offseason workout program, and it was unclear in early May if he had a chance to return to the field in time for minicamp June 11-13. Since Edelman is still wearing the boot, that is obviously still up in the air. Edelman's absence from the last two weeks of organized team activities means Brady's seven leading receivers from 2012 have not been on the field. Wes Welker departed for the Broncos, Brandon Lloyd was released, Danny Woodhead signed with the Chargers, Deion Branch is still a free agent, and Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez and Edelman are recovering from surgeries.
Either way, his once-promising career has been rife with all kinds of injuries, starting with breaking his forearm during his rookie season. I’ve been following New England quite closely for many years, reading countless articles, especially during the season. Edelman’s name has been listed on the “Did No Participate in Practice” list for at least 60% of practice sessions since 2009. It’s really no wonder why he was re-signed for the league minimum. I’ve read that he’ll return before training camp, but I’m worried that one of the many non-white receivers signed and drafted during the “Great Offseason De-Whitening Program” will steal his roster spot. Hawkins, Jenkins, Jones, Boyce and Dobkins don’t return punts (Edelman’s primary contribution for many seasons), however, recently signed RB, Leon Washington, does.
With the unfortunate loss of Moe, New England currently has 87 players signed to their active roster, 36 of which are white (or around 42%). Despite a slight drop in white players (Welker, Woodhead, Trevor Scott, etc), this is around nearly the exact same percentage as the 2012 offseason following the draft.
The Broncos will feature a more white-friendly offense; however, they will field two sumo OT’s while New England’s OL will again start 5 whites.
