I'm very happy about the trade. I think that Coach Belichick should take it one step further. He should go out and sign Matt Jones for the minimum salary. Jones would be a vital addition to the Pats if Edelmann can't get his foot healthy. It could really revive Matts career if he had Brady throwing him the ball. I know it sounds like a pipe dream but that is what the Patriots should do. Go and get other guys(example Welker) that no one wants and turn them into stars. So pleaselet the Pats do it one more time. Go sign Matt Jones!

They don't have a big target on the outside or a true deep threat. Jones would be a perfect fit!

It should not come as a surprise that Randy Moss was not thrilled that the Patriots threw in his direction just once in Monday night's 41-14 win over the Dolphins.
But even though Moss hadn't been shy about his feelings towards how the
team has treated him this season, there was speculation that something
had happened to push him and the Patriots over the edge and set off
Wednesday's trade with Minnesota.

Well, that something reportedly was a heated exchange that took place
between Moss and the Patriots' quarterbacks coach, Bill O'Brien, at the
half -- shortly after Moss was unable to hold onto Tom Brady's potential TD pass in the left corner of the end zone. According to Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston,
there was an "outburst" witnessed by numerous players, during which
Moss and O'Brien went back and forth. Moss obviously had issues with not
being targeted enough and O'Brien reportedly called Moss out on the
incompletion.

Less than 48 hours later, Moss was a Minnesota Viking for the second time in his career.

Former Patriots players like Tedy Bruschi and Troy Brown have weighed in
on the move and intimated that perhaps Moss had finally been showing
his true colors after behaving admirably since coming over to New
England from the Oakland Raiders
prior to the 2007 season. Bruschi felt that the lack of veterans like
himself, Brown and Rodney Harrison might have played into that negative
change in attitude.

Regardless, Bill Belichick is all about maintaining order on his team,
especially inside the locker room, so whatever happened at Sun Life
Stadium on Monday night clearly helped speed up the decision to trade
Moss.

It doesn't suprise me a bit. R.Wayne demands the ball in Indy as do most black receivers. They get jealous very easy if white receivers out shine them. Moss has always been a bit of a head case.

All the more reason for thePatriots to go sign Matt Jones. I'm trying to send positive vibes and hoping that it might happen!

Poor Wes Welker. Now that Moss is gone he won't be able to get open and will be lucky to catch even one pass per game. Randy ALWAYS had 2, 3,4, or more guys covering him on every single play. Well, that's what most of the DWF's seem to be saying.

I read an article written by a clown writer who claimed Randy Moss was the most valuable player on the offernse in the Pats win over the Dolphins Monday night.I'm not making that up. Moss had ZERO catches, dropped a TD pass, didn't go all out, but was the MVP? Yes, because he demanded so much attention from the defense the other players were free to make plays.

I can only imagine wahat a pain in the rear he's been the last year or two in particular.

It would be great to see Matt Jones go deep on that team.

Do these morons in the media remember the terrible Saban run Dolphins teams Welker was part of? He was a very productive receiver on some very bad teams before the Pats stole him because they saw what a great player he was. Welker had no help or QB play in Miami.

I was just watching the NFL Network, and, surprisingly, Mike Lombardi
smiley8.gif
, Brian Baldinger
smiley8.gif
, and Sterling Sharpe all agreed that the Patriots offense won't miss a beat without Moss, as he was very limiting in that he would/could only run a few different routes and has lost speed. Also, that the Patriots offense has evolved into more of a ball control offense, which plays against the aging Moss's strengths.

We'll see if Brandon Tate is ready for prime time. He's probably another Jacoby Jones-Pierre Garcon type, has speed but little else to offer on a consistent basis. I doubt Belichick will have a lot of patience with him. Hernandez admittedly looks very good as a receiving TE, but hopefully Gronkowski and Edelman will also be more involved.

With Moss gone, it opens up things for white receivers. With Welker, Edelman, and Woodhead, we should see all three continue to get more touches.

i'm certainly not an offensive coordinator, but even i could tell (just by watching games at live speed) that for the past two seasons, when Welker was on the field he was drawing more double teams than Moss. hell, even Moss admitted that.

seriously, does it surprise anyone here that the pro-caste media folks would instantly profess doom and gloomregarding a White athlete's ability to perform? i'm certainly not. my only curiosity on the matter is what bizarre reasoning will they come up with to denounce Welker's continued success.

Matt Jones should be in the prime of his career right now. N.E. can sign him, deep threat Kevin Curtis, other solid WRs with great hands and team oriented guys: Furry, Hass, John Matthews to name a few...

There are many fantastic WRs still out there.

What in the blue hell is Matt Jones doing unsigned??
Sick!

I think it would be best to see Edelman on the outside, with Tate on the other side occasionaly, Welker in the slot and Woodhead used in a Marshall Faulk role, not Kevin Faulk, I think he has the ability to be like Marshall Faulk. Rams used him all over the place, in the backfield, in the slot etc, with a great deal of carries. They used Welker in a similar way, everything except giving him handoffs. Kevin was used a variety of ways as well but Woodhead has a lot more talent. I see him on a Marshall Faulk level more than Kevin. In some of Kevin's most productive seasons (yardage wise) he only averaged 3.5 and 3.6 ypc. Woodhead could put up Marshall Faulk type numbers if he was given that many touches. A guy who broke Woodhead's college record, would be more like Kevin Faulk - Nate Kmic.

Stupid dwf jets fans saying the best Woodhead could do is be 60 percent as good as Kevin Faulk was. I don't know if he will get a 1000 yard rushing this season but it is very likely he could get 1000 yards from scrimmage. I know 1,000 yards rushing has been the number for whites to achieve since 1986, but with the new version of offenses and the amount of receptions backs get, receiving yards should be counted (they bring up yards from scrimmage all the time with Reggie Bush and whether or not he is good). Mike Alstott was the last back to have 1,000 yards from scrimmage with 1188 in 1999, the year before he came up two yards short with 998. White backs tend to be great receivers so offensive coordinators take advantage of that. Besides it looks like Hillis will break 1k rushing.

Its sad that even the people who like Woodhead think he is some type of overachieving Rudy type who succeeds because of his dedication to hard work. The guy has freakish speed/agility. If all I had to do to have Woodhead's ability is to was hard work, then I should be in the NFL now,, or at least be able to run a 4.3 but the best I could probably do is 4.7. These guys can't even fathom the idea of a white scat back.

Hopefully Welker is a 100 percent recovered, he showed signs to being pre injury form last week but still not 100 percent. If he still averages under 10 yards per reception the dwfs will try and blame it on Moss not being there, not the fact that he is recovering from knee injury. Moss half assed quite a few games, and defenses adjusted and stopped putting safety help over the top, yet it didn't affect Welker.

It would be nice to see Jones but there will be many people complaining if that happened.

The media and DWFs would be howling that one troublemaker (Moss) had been replaced by another. It's difficult to see any team picking up Jones the way he's been persecuted, possibly the Raiders but even that's a longshot.

I have no doubt 30-35 years ago Al Davis would have signed Matt Jones. He went out of his way to acquire "problem" players for the Raiders.

Boston writer not happy about trading afflete Moss. Goes off on Bellichick. Repeats the mantra about Welker and other receivers benefiting from double coverage of Randy.

http://bostonherald.com/sports/football/patriots/view.bg?articleid=1287002&position=1

Randy Moss trade another blown call by Bill Belichick

Bill Belichick always loves to talk about having to get better. Today he got worse, or at least his team did, which is really the same thing.

Take away the Patriots from Bill Belichick and what is he? A gym teacher with better jewelry, no disrespect to gym teachers intended. So how does he sell this latest fire sale to his players? Good luck. (snip)

Unloading Moss without an adequate replacement opens the door to the same probabilities. Say what you will about Moss but one thing is undeniable - he is double-covered most of the time with opponents playing unbalanced coverages thus far this season. That opens huge gaps in the midst of the defense for guys like Wes Welker, Brandon Tate and Aaron Hernandez to fill. (snip)

I don't recall him being double covered most of the time this season. Has anyone actually broken down the game to see if this is true? Or is this just some myth that is repeated over and over? He might have drawn more double coverage in his prime, but now that he is older, still can only run a few routes, and half asses it most of the time, I don't think he is double covered as much as people claim. In the beginning of the Dolphins game they showed alot of Randy's big catches, all were single coverage. Back when Brady was injured in 08, Cassel struggled to hit Moss deep for a while and teams didn't put safety help that often. Welker had a great season, Moss had about 8 more yards than when he played a full season in Oakland.

Wes Welker also gets a lot of passes behind the line of scrimmage or around it, and relies on yards after the catch. Having a safety over the top will help your number 2 receiver, but for a slot receiver having to weave in and out of traffic, I don't think it helps that much as people claim. It is probably similar to a runningback benefiting from a good passing attack so teams don't stack the box. They only need to throw the ball down field a few times a game to make them respect the deep ball.

I had the same thinking as Borussia on this: Why not Matt Jones? He gives you speed and height. He gives you the option offense (re; Wildcat). He'd be hanging around a white-friendly offense like the Pats.

Some one call Belichek and lets get the boy signed up!!

Has anyone watched the ESPN coverage of Moss and the routes he has been running this year? He's pathetic. He didn't get open on a single route and looks slow. Poor Brett Favre.

It's crazy that Curtis and Jones are sitting home while Joey Galloway is playing. Unbelievable!

As a Patriot, Moss has only played in three games without Wes Welker in the lineup. Here are his numbers from those games"¦

1) 2009 Week 2 vs. Jets"¦4 catches for 24 yards.

2) 2009 Week 3 vs. Falcons"¦.10 catches for 116 yards.

3) 2010 Playoffs vs. Ravens"¦5 catches for 48 yards.

The dirty little secret cannot be kept for much longer. Since 2007, the top priority of every opponent playing New England is how they will stop a player who cannot be covered. Welker, despite being somewhat slowed by his knee injury, will continue to dictate how defenses prepare for the Patriots' offense every single game.

The Patriots should make the playoffs this season"¦and Moss is always a proverbial ghost in the playoffs. Here are his 2007 playoff stats (they didn't reach the playoffs in 2008) with New England"¦

1) 2007 Playoffs vs. Jaguars â€" 1 catch for 14 yards

2) 2007 Playoffs vs. Chargers â€" 1 catch for 18 yards

3) 2007 Superbowl vs. Giants â€" 5 catches for 62 yards, 1 TD

Welker's stats were impeccable during the playoffs (even tying the Superbowl receptions record).

So who needs who again?

I hope the Pats signing of Deion Branch won't mean Edelman is a perpetually on the bench. I hate the move. Deion Branch is one of those magical negroes that is always deemed as great reciever but has never produced despite his opportunities. He has been a starter since he was drafted (2nd round) in 2002 by the Pats. He held out on the Patriots in 2006 and was promptly traded to the Seahawks where he also started. Despite starting for 8 seasons with good QBs, he has never produced a 1,000 yard season. Hopefully he is nothing more than a back-up to the much more talented Edelman.

I don't see the Patriots moving Edelman outside, at least not until other options fail. He's been pigeonholed as "mini-Wes," which means Welker's understudy in the slot. Hope I'm wrong. Edelman also needs to get healthy and stay healthy; he's been too brittle in his two seasons in the league.

During the Chargers and Ravens games, I've noticed that Patriots rookie OLB Dane Fletcher has been getting increased snaps, especially on 3rd downs. He had a forced fumble, several tackles, and made a nice recovery during a surprise onside kick. Rob Ninkovich seems to start every week and Mike Wright starts at either DT or DE on random occasions.

It was nice to see Julian Edelman's long punt return. He's an electrifying player in open space. Hopefully his various injuries and mental mistakes are behind him. Unfortunately, he's rarely targeted on offense and is rarely even in the game at all. Randy Moss' supposed replacement, Brandon Tate, was completely shut down"¦again. The Chargers' main focus was Welker, who was doubled on many occasions. The OL wasn't very sharp, which impacted the success of Woodhead and Welker.

There were many hilarious instances of "standard black behavoir"Â￾ during this game. The best example of which occurred when Rookie receiver Richard Goodman made a 25-yard reception, fell to the ground untouched and lept to his feet in order to properly "glorify"Â￾ himself"¦whilst the Patriots recovered the fumble.

Yeh, it's nice to see the Patriots with 3 Whites playing on defense at times. As they play up to 9 Whites on offense at times, they are right with the Packers, if not slightly ahead of them, as the relatively most White friendly team.

New England are a truly remarkable team this year. It is amazing to someone like me, who has watched the NFL on TV for many years, to see a white QB standing behind a predominately white O-line with two of the three wide receivers being white and with a white running back in the backfield. Surely this must stand out to anyone over the age of six watching this as an amazing transformation of what we have been watching for the last 20 years. But it is only one team (although the colts are pretty remarkable also at times) and they need to keep winning. They are only just winning close games at the moment, and Brady does not look as good as we all know he can be. I think the conflict with Moss has heaped extra pressure on him to succeed, and he is feeling it. If white players are to get the chances they deserve in the future New England have to at least get to the playoffs. They are the team everyone should be supporting.
