Exceptional white athletes like Danny Woodhead and Mike Hass need to say something about this disrimination they face. Unless the athletes speak up themselves and expose what is going on we will not see a change. Black players do it all the time. It's time for some whites to step up to the plate.

Sam Mcguffie was asked about being a white running back. He said he didn't want to get into it. These types of responses are unacceptable.

The way Jet management has fiddled with the roster. It almost seems like they can't make up on their mind on the wall paper of the war room. There is a reason why the Jets haven't won anything in 40 years....

This team is going to be terrible this year. The receivers they have on their roster are all a joke. Sanchez might be good in the future but will probably struggle this year. They would be much better of signing Hass and having a legit receiver on the team. Don't expect more than 6 wins from these losers.

The Jets used to be my favorite team but only because they had my favorite player Chrebet. Edited by: whiteathlete33

Maybe some in the media are starting to take notice to what's happening. See article and link below. By the way, if you take the poll asking who the best running back, athletically, 70% responded with Woodhead.

Jets Running Back Danny Woodhead: Better than Advertised by Kevin Roberts Featured Columnist Written on July 08, 2009

Thomas Jones will be 31 in August, yet his spot as the New York Jets' starting running back is finely cemented.

Rookie Shonn Greene has somehow already earned the "closer" role, while the bit-size Leon Washington continues his change-of-pace role.

Great.

So, where does that leave Danny Woodhead?

Who?

This guy.

Still don't know who he is?

I'm not surprised.

Woodhead, a 5'7" running back out of D-II Chadron State, probably isn't a household name outside of Nebraska.

Turned down by several D-I schools due to his lack of height, Woodhead decided not to attempt to be a walk-on with a big school. Rather, he felt more like being wanted by a team instead of being just another player.

I agree with that sentiment, because Woodhead isn't just another player.

He's a physical specimen with outstanding speed and agility.

Since Woodhead wasn't invited to the NFL scouting combine in 2008, due to his small school and lack of size, he was forced to pack in his workouts for scouts at his "pro day."

According to a report from NFLDraftWatch.net, Woodhead posted impressive times in almost every major category.

He displayed speed and agility, running times between 4.33 and 4.38 in the 40-yard dash, which would place second overall for all college running backs.

He also posted the best agility time (4.03 seconds), the second-best vertical jump (38.5 in), and the best 60-yard shuttle time (11.2) seconds.

Despite only being 5'7" and weighing in at 200 lbs., Woodhead had the best athletic times, overall, of all the running back prospects in the nation.

If those numbers don't sway you, perhaps a look at his college stats will.

Woodhead, the NCAA's former all-time leading rusher (record recently broken by Mount Union's Nate Kmic), put up his fourth straight 1,500-yard season in 2007, as well as his fourth straight season with at least 21 touchdowns.

He's also known for his ridiculous 2006 season, in which he compiled over 2,700 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns in just 13 games.

Woodhead also displayed his receiving ability throughout his career, as he topped at least 30 receptions in his final three years and scored eight touchdowns on receptions for his career.

Let's be honest with ourselves.

If you put Woodhead's numbers up to any other back in that 2008 draft, without knowing his size, name, or school, he's your first pick, hands down.

Even if that isn't the case and you'd still prefer all the other bigger, more experienced backs who faced tough competition, his numbers and athleticism put him in the middle rounds at least, right?

Wrong.

Despite all the numbers, Woodhead found himself undrafted in 2008, soon afterward signing a free agent contract with the Jets.

But here we are, two years removed from his sensational finale at Chadron State, still hoping he gets an honest chance.

With the flush of smaller backs taking the league by storm, now is as good a time as ever for Woodhead to make his splash and earn a spot with a team.

If that team happens to be New York, then so be it.

However, considering the Jets have money invested in Jones, a third-rounder invested in Greene, and already have a 5'8'' running back in Washington, there may not be room for Woodhead.

But there should be.

Woodhead is just like Darren Sproles, Jerious Norwood, and Maurice Jones-Drew.

He's an ultra-athletic back that has been doubted his entire life, told "no" by anyone he meets, and has constantly overcome the odds.

The only difference is those running backs previously listed got their chance at a D-I school, and they didn't have to wait for their shot in the NFL.

Not like Woodhead has.

I know this article won't save Woodhead's career. It won't make him the New York Jets' starter, and it won't even guarantee him a spot on their roster.

But what I hope it does is make people aware of his talent and his humble personality. I hope New York fans and NFL fans alike can recognize his ability and cheer him on.

Because Danny Woodhead is an underdog, even though he shouldn't be.

Danny Woodhead had to pass through waivers to be placed on the practice squad. Think about that; no other team in the NFL had an interest in a dynamic little RB who rushed for 158 yards in the final preseason game. If any team dared to cut such a black talent- which, of course, they'd never do- the rest of the teams in the league would be falling all over themselves to pick him up.

The practice squad is meaningless. Ask Mike Hass about it.

bigunreal, For the most part, I agree with your idea tat the pratice squad is meaningless. But in the case of Danny woodhead, it might not be. The fans know he's there (I'll bet none of the fans know about mike Hass). If anything happens to one of the rbs ahead of him, there'll be a hew and cry to bring him onto the roster and give him te ball.

It only takes one to get injured. I think every team in the league tries to carry 3 RBs on their gameday roster.

I'm gonna try to be positive here:

Greene has already been nicked up this preseason.

Jones is 31 with alot of wear and tear on his body.

Washington has been complaining over his contract.

Best case for Danny is an injury this year from one of these guys or the Jets being terrible and trading vet Thomas Jones.

If not, I can see them parting ways with Jones or Washington next off season. Assuming of course they don't draft a RB, I can see Danny stepping into a role with the team.

I try to be optimistic too. Why should all these things have to happen for a white runninback to get some carries. Leon Washington is the same size as Woodhead so why do the media and Jets rave about him so much? Not many runningbacks have the freakish athletic ability that Danny does. Maybe the NFL is implementing the rule of only white runningback on all active rosters.

I'm not very optimistic for the future concerning undersized white tailbacks. He is probably the best white small tailback since lord knows when and not one friggin team wanted him off of the waivers wire? I guess he would need 200 yard games..

I still think teams will look at big backs that are white, but even then no white backs will get the Lendale White or Ron Dayne treatment. Edited by: white is right

Usually larger white backs are turned into fullbacks. They almost never get a chance to actually run the ball. How long are we supposed to wait for the next Mike Alstott? Things are getting ridiculous with the discrimination these white players face.

Not disputing that. It's just that a few have been chosen on the first day or if they are late picks they can make rosters. This guy did everything but break the NFL record and he was a Jet for a day. Similar to some sort of NFL promo.

Vernon Gholston was the 6th overall pick of the 2008 Draft. He had great media hype about his career at Ohio State and his workout at the Combine. Well, he's beena colossal bust so far, almost unbelievably bad. But because he's black he's been spared the non-stop, national ridicule that would be directed at any white player who flopped in a similar way. Mike Mamula was a first round Hall of Famer in the NFL compared to what Gholston's played like so far.

A writer who covers the Jets predicts the Texans will go right after Gholston on Sunday as he is replacing the suspendedCalvin Pace and "Gholston, a high draft pick from last year who really had a very bad rookie year and has been getting a lot of time this preseason, but frankly, I don't think he's ready for full-time duty and I could see the Texans going right after him and running the ball at him because his football instincts are a little behind right now and he has trouble shedding blocks. So I could see them going right at him." http://www.houstontexans.com/news/Story.asp?STORY_ID=5561

So Gholston has no football instincts and the affletic marvel can't shed blocks. What an exact science the drafting process is.

The same process that decided Mike Hass couldn't get open in the NFL even though he was uncoverable against top college competition.

Don, the sick thing is that footballsblackfuture.com had hyped Gholston as the "TOP DE IN THE ENTIRE DRAFT" even above Chris Long. This was before changing the rankings again at the last minute when their own DWF posters were scoffing at the sites own argument. Every year that site hypes a black QB or two in the top 5 QBs. And the highest they've EVER had a white offensive skill player ranked was Anthony Gonzalez as their 10th WR."

It's amazing that so many people buy the hype from these drunk white analysts. But the truth is, these potato chip eating "scouts" have a clear and evident prejudice.

Mike Mayock is your typical caste fool, and even he labeled Gholston correctly as "the tin man" (no heart) before he was drafted 6th overall.

NFL Network (back then known as 'Ocho Cinco TV') was more interested in showing infinate clips of Gholston shirtless than focusing on his barely above average on-field play at OSU. How are those fake muscles working out?

It should be funny to watch Gholston get pounded until even the caste media can't deny that he's basically a body builder who plays football like a p*ssy.Edited by: Thrashen

You're right Thrashen, Gholston's a workout warrior with no work ethic and he's soft. His instinctive ability is also below average for a pro DE. Sure sounds like a guy whose better than Chris Long right?

I heard all about Gholston being a freak and Chris Long being an "overachiever" before the draft. However, Gholston was only faster than Long over 40 yards by 0.08 seconds and Long actually showed better short area quickness. Long had a significantly better shuttle and slightly better 3-Cone and equal 10 yard clip. Long was also just one inch below Gholston for broad jump with a 10-4 jump- which was second amongst DEs. Here's his other ranks, 1st in the short shuttle, 3rd in the 3-Cone, 4th in the vertical leap tes. I'd say Long is a better "all round" athlete, yet he was destined to fail b/c he's the overachiever and Gholston is the freak according to footballsblackfuture.com

He is the next Alonzo Spellman, another OSU product who looked like a cartoon freak and was about as effective. Still the obviously gay and drunk white media just knew he would develop, he never did.

The Jets traded for Braylon Edwards, yet did not sign Matt Jones. Their GM must be a genius---NOT!!!

NEW YORK -- Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini has dumped dissatisfied wide receiver Braylon Edwards off on his former team.

Mangini sent Edwards, a former first-round pick whose troubles have matched his immense talent to the New York Jets on Wednesday for wide receiver Chansi Stuckey, linebacker Jason Trusnik and undisclosed draft choices.

Edwards, in his fifth season, has 10 receptions for 139 yards but was held to no catches for the first time in his career in the winless Browns' 23-20 overtime loss to Cincinnati on Sunday. His best season came in 2007, when he had 80 catches for 1,289 yards and 16 touchdowns.

The former Michigan star comes with his share of off-field issues. The NFL is investigating whether he violated the league's conduct policy following accusations he assaulted a man outside a nightclub. Cleveland police are also looking into the incident.

The Jets, off to a 3-1 start, had been looking to replace Laveranues Coles in the starting lineup since allowing him to become a free agent in the offseason. They looked into former Giants star Plaxico Burress' legal status before the draft, and were mentioned in possible trade talks with Denver's Brandon Marshall.

San Francisco also filed tampering charges against the Jets in September, claiming New York was looking into wide receiver Michael Crabtree, the 49ers' top draft pick. The league is still looking into those charges.

Edwards allegedly punched promoter Edward Givens, a friend of NBA star LeBron James, early Monday morning following an argument in downtown Cleveland.

Although Edwards hasn't been charged with a crime, the league's conduct policy states that discipline may be imposed for "the use or threat of violence."

Edwards has been involved in other off-field incidents. In March, he was partying with suspended Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth in Miami the night Stallworth later drove drunk and killed a pedestrian. Edwards was not with Stallworth at the time.

Last November, Edwards was fined $150 and given 30 hours of community service after he was found guilty of driving 120 mph.

It's the second major trade the Jets have made with the Browns and Eric Mangini, their former coach. On the first day of the draft in April, New York acquired the fifth overall pick from Cleveland to select Sanchez for its first-round pick, its second-rounder (No. 52), and defensive end Kenyon Coleman, safety Abram Elam and quarterback Brett Ratliff.

Stuckey, who won the No. 2 receiver spot opposite Cotchery out of training camp, has 11 catches for 120 yards and a touchdown. He was a seventh-round draft pick out of Clemson in 2007, but missed his first season with a foot injury. Stuckey had 32 receptions last season, catching three touchdown passes from Brett Favre.

Trusnik, signed as an undrafted free agent out of Ohio Northern in 2007, is a special teams ace and backup linebacker. He was selected as the AFC's special teams player of the week last week after forcing and recovering a fumble on a kickoff in the Jets' 24-17 win over Tennessee.

Still doesn't surprise me that Jones is not signed as of yet. He is better than most receivers in the league but is being forced out because he is white. Hopefully something changes.

I dont see why the Browns dont pick up Matt Jones. Edwards is one of the reasons the Browns are off to an an 0-4 start. I am a Quinn fan and think that he could do well if given a reliable target like Matt Jones.

Picking up a bum like edwards will hurt the jets real bad, so that's what they'll do. Nothing ever changes with this forlorne franchise. Vintage jets.

I found this article after looking up Jim Leonhard today http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2009/10/14/ryan-raves-about-jim-leonhard/

This is the last paragraph, pretty amazing what Rex went through just to get Leonhard

"Of course, we had Ed Reed and Duwan Landry, so we were set at our starters when we drafted two safeties, yet I still wanted Jim Leonhard because I knew he was a heck of a football player, a special football player. Ozzie said ‘You can have him, but you've got to cut three players (laughing).' So we cut those three guys and Jim's now playing with me and the Jets and doing a great job."Â￾
