    MVP Award

Bayless is one of the most entrenched caste supporters. Not the brightest bulb I've always thought. Couple meager gifts with an annoying personality and of course you get an ESPN regular.

    Ryan Varner

Seeing the picture of the 4 lads my wife said it looked like a photo from the 50's. I said that that was what sprinting often looked like in the 50's. I think that Wariner's success is starting to have an effect especially in his part of the country. White guys are allowing themselves to...

They were this past weekend. Arkansas won the mens and South Carolina the womens.

    Dusty Stamer

He seems to have one really good 100 a meet. The first time I saw him run was at the '04 Big 12 in the 4x100. When he got the baton Nebraska was fourth or fifth, well back, and he just overhauled the field but in the open 100 he wasn't a factor. I would love to know what his split on the...

    Dusty Stamer

I agree bigman. You always hear about the track guy playing football but with Stamer it is a football player running track. With better coaching(?) or just more experience he'll be showing better in finals.

    Andrew Rock

Steele was making some noises at the KU Relays about maybe moving up to the 800. The 400 is very crowded right now so it might be a good move for him though I wish he'd stick it out a little longer.

    High School Junior David Klech

This kid is 6'4" and only 160. So far this season he has run 14.13 for the 110 hurdles, long jumped 24'7", high jumped 7'3/4", 48.7 400 meters, 36.28 300 hurdles and 52.75 400 hurdles. It will be interesting to see how he develops and what he chooses to concentrate on.

    America & Soccer

Oddly enough, though I have never played soccer except in college intramurals(everyone else on the team was from St. Louis and had played high school soccer) I watch the Premiership and the Bundesliga quite often. MLS is a much less entertaining brand of soccer and interests me less. I think...

    Andrew Rock

Rock ran 44.75 as runner-up to LaShawn Merritt's 44.66 in Kingston. This bodes well for the rest of the season.

    Impotance of High Jumping

Sotomayor was a really high flyer. He tested positive for cocaine on at least two occasions. He was a terrific jumper but I've read articles that express doubts about the 8 footer. He also tested positive for nandrolone.

    Impotance of High Jumping

No one is knocking Jordan or Ervin Black Guy. Certainly dunking a basketball(especially in a game situation) and high junping are different skills. To say that Jordan would have been the best high jumper had he applied himself to it is, to be restrained, quite a stretch. Jordan's leaping...

    Jason White

I'm not so sure that bigman isn't right about White but my point was in accord with Black Guy's view that White & Crouch because of their success in college at least deserve a shot.

    Jason White

All of this production came post knee problems. He seems to have held up quite well the last two years. White is a perfct example of the "potential vs. performance" standard that so many so-called talent evaluators fall back on. Not withstanding what he accomplished on the field as a football...

    Your favorite BLACK football players

Campbell(the Tyler Rose) and Sayers two great running backs. That Monday Night game Campbell had against Miami going for 190 something was great.

    Viktor Bryzgin

To play devil's advocate to your first point Jaxvid, I would suggest that the blacks that were able to compete at let's say the high school level and excelled would have some chance at going to college. Owens went to Ohio State(not on a track scholarship though, he worked several jobs between...

    Viktor Bryzgin

Thanks Jaxvid and Reb. I think Jaxvid's first point is certainly a plausible one that might account for black sprinting dominance now. While I agree that blacks were certainly not encouraged by society to prove themselves as equals or better, sports is one of the first best areas where a...

My inclination with regard to the 100 accords with you JD074. What keeps me from being 100% convinced is the history of the event. The most dominant factor in the Olympic 100 meters has been not race but the United States. I went over some of this stuff I think in response to Black Guy but in...

    innocence lost in sports

Good luck with the relocation Aragorn777. And good luck with the winters up there. Call me a weenie but I can't see me ever living further north than KC.

    My take on this site

Alvin Ailey was leader of a black dance troop. Modern/ballet/jazz. You know, the kind of stuff that is excruciating to have to sit through. The Nicholas Brothers were a great dancing duo. If you can ever catch clips of them tapping away it is incredible.

    My take on this site

Haven't been keeping up and just read the "non-intelligible responses" (if I was a part of the blatant conspiracy I'd probably suggest that the word Iller was searching for was unintelligible) of Iller regarding the hip problem. Male gymnasts are stiff? As uncomfortable as it makes me feel...

    My take on this site

The lack of dexterity in the hips agrument falls on its face when you look at other sports. Gymnastics, skiing, soccer etc...that all call for "dexterity".

    My take on this site

I believe that if you were to ask Brooks Johnson where the white Carl Lewises are he would probably launch into a rant not unlike some of the ones posted here. His comments in the article I read were prompted in part by the trouble with the perceptions held by athletes he coached especially the...

    Interesting website..

Welcome aboard SteveB. Your story is illustrative of what goes on and how people think. Though on a much lower level, I remember the first day of junior high football(Southern Oklahoma), the coaches divided us into the various groups(rb's, cb's etc...)and would tell any white kid that tried to...
